Apparently a woman spent 8 hours in a cell/being interviewed by the police for a "transphobic" Tweet along the lines of TWAW. Can't bring myself to buy the Mail tomorrow to check the details, but it may be taken up by other papers.

My MP has said to complain & copy him in.

Re the Catholic Church - they understandably don’t go round suing people. But at a local level people are being supportive in terms of keeping an eye out for us and we’ve beefed up our CCTV etc.

littlbrowndog · 11/02/2019 19:26

Ae ever caro🍷
And that 2 sniggering in full view

Carowiththegoodhair · 11/02/2019 19:35

Utterly shit behaviour. Someone (not me) tweeted to Hayden "You literally have nothing else to do, do you?" and I thought yes, that's probably spot on.

teawamutu · 11/02/2019 20:18

I had been wondering, quite seriously, if SH has an actual job. Do they?

AnyFucker · 11/02/2019 20:18

caro there are no words Angry

Hi Mhairi

I’ve found myself reading some sources that I thought I never would so do understand what you are saying but don’t you think people have already tried the ‘let’s make a rational, well thought out argument to a well regarded media source’ approach?

Take Helen Lewis at the New Satesman. I think she has said she supports self ID. However, she is concerned about transgender prisoners in women’s prisons and cautious about puberty blockers for under 16s. Despite this ‘moderate’ approach, she gets so much abuse from TRAs and is regularly called transphobic and a terf.

There was nothing on Woman’s Hour right up until (or even slightly after?) the GRA consultation ended. I was amazed this morning to hear Dr Nic Williams on Today. I am not sure if that would have happened without the Mail article.

As so many posters have said, there has been little GC media coverage. This compares with things like the drama Butterfly on a Sunday night so it wouldn’t work to be completely purist. The Daily Mail has actually changed slightly with the new editor. I also remember it was the first paper that named the suspects in the Stephen Lawrence murder.

Imissgmichael · 11/02/2019 20:42

“I'm just not convinced that good things come from dancing with the devil”

I think the parents of Stephen Lawrence thanked the DM. Was that dancing with the devil?

AncientLights · 11/02/2019 20:50

Carowiththegoodhair Flowers it's just awful that you are having to live with this. Not many of us do have any faith in the police any longer I fear.

titchy · 11/02/2019 20:56

SH is an undergraduate Law student.

FlyingOink · 11/02/2019 21:00

Hayden is like Pinocchio.

No visible means of support, of course

ToeToToe · 11/02/2019 21:03

The difference between the treatment of Carol/Posie, and Hayden, is demonstrative that transwomen are not women. Women are never taken seriously by the police, whether it be rape, dv, harassment....

FlyingOink · 11/02/2019 21:04

Carowiththegoodhair when you feel up to it, it might be worthwhile making separate complaints re. religious hatred for each incident.
I'm happy to recomplain as a fellow Catholic taking personal offence at what was aimed at you, and at the lack of response.
I'm sure there are other posters who would feel the same and would be happy to complain also.
Even if you had half a dozen people amplifying each singular complaint it might prompt a response?
Obviously up to you, it must be exhausting being continually threatened and harassed like that.

Having a stipulation of purity with media outlets is shooting ourselves in the foot.

No programme/paper/media outlet is pro-women. None. Not even fucking Woman's Hour. We will never, ever align 100% with any. But with this, we have truth, science and common sense on our side and the more we can get the truth out to a wide audience, the more people will see what is happening.

SunsetBeetch · 11/02/2019 21:22

Stephanie has a blog. Her post about the GRA reforms interesting.

Trousering · 11/02/2019 21:25

Hayden used to come here and lecture us all on the GRA.

Popchyk · 11/02/2019 21:27

"Re the Catholic Church - they understandably don’t go round suing people. But at a local level people are being supportive in terms of keeping an eye out for us and we’ve beefed up our CCTV etc".

Caro, I didn't mean that the Catholic Church should sue anybody.

I meant that senior figures in the Catholic Church should be made aware that you are a victim of religious hate crimes. And that the position of the police is that they will not act, in stark contrast with other hate incidents that are reported. You would hope that senior figures in the church would then raise this as a general issue with the police and seek reassurances that religious hate incidents will be investigated. Which may lend weight to your own case.

The House of Lords might also be helpful, there are senior Catholic peers there; someone like Sheila Hollins might be worth contacting.

teawamutu · 11/02/2019 21:29

I started reading that essay but I can't cope with the justified text and quote marks. What was the central point?

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 11/02/2019 21:31

Central point was a "Mumsnet is bad" rant.

teawamutu · 11/02/2019 21:34

Thought it probably was. Thanks for confirmingSmile

ComputerSaysMo · 11/02/2019 21:38

Of course MN is bad. Full of women, innit? Grin

teawamutu · 11/02/2019 21:47

Went and had another look. Starts out as a legal essay and ends up as an opinion column.

This from the bio, though: She is a Bachelor of Laws and has been in legal professional practice since 2008. Stephanie practices in employment law and regularly appears in the Employment Tribunal.

Is a Bachelor of Laws different from being an undergraduate in law?
