I'm not sure if this has been posted?

"A local drag community in Newcastle have come together in style to create a one-of-a-kind 2019 calendar, with all proceeds going to charity to support transgender children and young people across the UK."

The February and March photos are attached.

My eyes....
What kind of person would buy this?

FlyingOink · 14/01/2019 20:20

CigarsofthePharoahs
I imagine quite a few people would buy it as a joke.

Earlywalker · 14/01/2019 20:43

Because some people may be attracted to drag acts?
Fetishes and sexual desires are natural and as long as they are not harming anyone in the process and involves consenting adults, I don’t see why anyone would see it as an issue.
It’s the same sort of thing as a playboy calendar just not as universally recognised/accepted, drag queen attractions are also actually quite common in woman. (Though not personally my thing!)

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 14/01/2019 20:48

consenting adults

Mermaids is a charity for children.

deepwatersolo · 14/01/2019 20:52

Fetishes and sexual desires are natural...

Right. And this calendar, by its shonsorship and mermaid logo, directly links the desire of kids to wear 'opposite sex' clothes to the fetishes and sexual desires naturally associated with cross-dressing.

Earlywalker · 14/01/2019 20:53

Am aware. The question was ‘What kind of person would buy this’

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 14/01/2019 20:54

Am aware

Oh I know, I read though the thread, I just thought it needed repeating.

PineappleSunrise · 14/01/2019 20:59

One of the things that fascinates me is the way that some seem to think that "for consenting adults" is exactly the same as "good for children exploring their sexual identities at a really young age."

sackrifice · 14/01/2019 22:16

Gosh you uptight bunch of cardigan wearing ice queens. Don't you remember when the WI posed with their glitter anal beads to raise money for Great Ormond Street? We gave the kids their own anal beads in pink or blue to kick off the campaign. They loved them.

Nobody? Just me then. Or maybe that would be totally inappropriate.

ChewyLouie · 14/01/2019 22:51

Sackrifice and that’s why I shouldn’t believe everything I read on t’internet 😂I’ve just gone and looked up anal beads, goodness knows what kind of adverts I’ll get now.
If my child’s school consider Mermaids training, this calendar is one of the examples I’ll be using to illustrate my objection (with my cardi buttoned firmly all the way up).

sackrifice · 14/01/2019 23:10

Lol.

Ereshkigal · 15/01/2019 08:09

Yeah, children's charities don't tend to advertise with Playboy calendars either.

Earlywalker · 15/01/2019 08:56

Yes Ereksh No one has said they do.
As already mentioned, my quoted post was responding to the poster above me who’s question was who would buy this I’ve already said it’s odd to have it linked to a children’s charity.

deepwatersolo The fetish I was referring to were those attracted to people in drag.

userschmoozer · 15/01/2019 09:09

''Vanilla'' means sexual. Not 'merely naked'. Nudists are naked, not 'vanilla'.

Datun · 15/01/2019 09:47

Vanilla being used as a distinction now? And this is why people like Aimee Challinor managed to get to a position where they were advising the girl guides.

When it comes to gender confused children, blurring them into the trans cohort for whom cross dressing is a fetish is a red flag klaxon.

I'm not sure what drag has to do with trans anyway. Transgender, as Susie Green will tell anyone, is something that you cannot make people be. The implication being it is a condition that is innate. Dressing up as the opposite sex for adult, consenting, sexy time, theatre fun isn't that.

Also, the use of the word vanilla is meant to represent what? Straightforward, missionary position sex?

I sincerely hope you have no responsibility for safeguarding children, Fox. Using words like vanilla to try and make a distinction over what is, or isn't acceptable for children?

Fetishes and sexual desires are natural and as long as they are not harming anyone in the process and involves consenting adults, I don’t see why anyone would see it as an issue.

A children's charity who take sweets and puppies to Pride in a deliberate, (and entirely open), attempt to attract children, publicly backing a 'fetish and sexual desires' calendar?

I hope none of you work with children.

Datun · 15/01/2019 09:48

Also fox, your question to me over nude and vanilla, was working towards an obvious gotcha.

You are blinded by something, I'm not sure what it is. But it's not good.

VickyEadie · 15/01/2019 09:55

That any charity purporting to work for and on behalf of children would in any respect associate themselves with that calendar is astonishing.

Yet again, it proves that Mermaids have no idea about safeguarding.

Earlywalker · 15/01/2019 10:06

Yes datun mermaids backing the Calender is wrong. A grown adult who has an attraction to drag queens or purchases the Calender for any reason is not wrong.
That is what I have said, so don’t make judgements about my character by saying ‘I hope none of you work with children’
By making out that there’s something so wrong with wanting to wear clothes for the opposite sex, or being sexually attracted to these people, or for having any fetish - is probably directly linking to the increase of trans and confused kids. They think that their desires are wrong so something must be wrong with them (I.e possibly wrong sex)

sackrifice · 15/01/2019 10:17

Any 'body' that uses puppies and sweets to attract children at events is clearly demonstrating that they have no idea of the concept of safeguarding. In plain sight.

Datun · 15/01/2019 10:20

Do you not understand the difference between gender nonconformity and transvestism?

One is wearing feminine clothes. One is dressing 'like a woman'.

The first takes you out of your gender box. The second cements you in.

Earlywalker · 15/01/2019 10:32

Drag queens often see what they’re doing as a ‘performing art’ and return to their usual self afterwards.
There is nothing wrong with a man wanting to wear a dress with makeup and heels, or a woman wanting to wear jeans and shirts and cut their hair short. Wanting to dress as the opposite sex is not wrong. In the same way some woman want to wear extensions with big lashes and tight dresses and some woman prefer baggy clothing, One is not more normal or right over the other. Likewise, having an attraction to someone who dresses or acts in a certain way is not wrong.
As long as their attractions and desires are between consenting adults and not harming anyone, it’s none of your business.

Datun · 15/01/2019 10:36

I disagree. Parodying women, in a sexualised manner is wrong. It promotes misogyny. As does showing the subordination of women as something to be aroused by.

Datun · 15/01/2019 10:38

early

Can you really not tell the difference between gender nonconformity and wanting to dress like a woman to turn you on. Or because a man has, in his head, a fixed idea that dressing 'like a woman' is only something that women should do?

Earlywalker · 15/01/2019 10:42

You think all drag acts dress as woman to turn themselves on? Hmm

Datun · 15/01/2019 11:02

No, gawd. But the calendar was deliberately titillating and bought into the concept that the subordination of women is arousing.

Not something that should be connected to gender nonconforming children.
