That poor girl.

LemonSqueezy0 · 07/11/2018 20:03

That is absolutely disgusting.

FloralBunting · 07/11/2018 20:04

Horrific, isn't it? I just don't have the words right now.

I thought 30 fucking years ago that this sort of shit was dying. Surely judges and juries and lawyers would listen and empathize and learn over the years. Surely.

But no. Shitty, nasty misogynist bullshit is still there.

Remind me what underwear men wear that says "I unconditionally consent to a man having sex with me"?

AnyFucker · 07/11/2018 20:10

Utterly disgusting

FloralBunting · 07/11/2018 20:13

You really do get to the stage where you are lulled into believing that everyone now understands that women are not raped because of how they are dressed.

And then you read this and it's like some awful timeslip sci fi thing and you realize that there are still lots and lots and lots of people who will utter phrases like 'asking for it's and 'what did she expect?' with no hesitation at all.

I'm sickened and even more so as I'm from Ireland. What the actual fuck has clothing got to do with anything.

Makes me feel sick that this is what the narrative goes to - was she asking for it due to the way she was dressed

failingatlife · 07/11/2018 20:15

This shocking case was in 2002 news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/2184457.stm
Sadly things don't seem to have improved much

itsbritneybiatches · 07/11/2018 20:15

It pissed me off. So it's the women's fault for wearing a nice pair of knickers. The male assumption that women wear knickers
Just for men. Not for ourselves.

Notice how it's never assumed that Everyman who has bought a women a drink is intending to rape them. No, because it's fucking ludicrous just like wearing nice knickers means you want sex.

MrsTerryPratcett · 07/11/2018 20:15

And men should be outraged too. The implication that men are so stupid, venal and unpleasant that they can't work out when someone enthusiastically consents.

itsbritneybiatches · 07/11/2018 20:15

Pisses

IStandWithPosie · 07/11/2018 20:19

I have a male friend who was raped (by a man) and I’ve read a few news reports over the last few years of men being raped (by men). I have never once seen the Male victims underwear being referred to in the trial.

FloralBunting · 07/11/2018 20:19

There was even a witness that said he had his hand round her throat. In muddy grass.

Just how exactly is it possible to get a rape conviction if this is the way things are done? God, I'm hopping.

That Scottish case is so sad. That poor girl humiliated and then committed suicide.

If rape is about sex then why are there cases of old people being raped by young guys, children etc

It's violence and power over another individual

Dottierichardson · 07/11/2018 20:35

That's just horrifying, is there a petition or any way of supporting the victim or raising an outcry about the conduct of the case?

FermatsTheorem · 07/11/2018 20:35

It's horrific.

What do you have to do to get a rape conviction? This woman had a witness to say the man had her down a dark lane, on the ground, with his hand round her throat, and yet he's believed and not her?

I still remember the case where it wasn't disputed that the woman was unconscious, but the man got off because he claimed he tripped and fell, penis first, into her vagina.

CurbsideProphet · 07/11/2018 20:35

Awful, just awful.

PyeWackets · 07/11/2018 20:38

It's getting worse isn't it, it's all getting worse Sad

MrsTerryPratcett · 07/11/2018 20:38

But choking is totes vanilla now thanks to nasty porn so she probably thought that was great, right?

I'm so angry.

hipsterfun · 07/11/2018 20:40

No fucking words.

Ifonlyus · 07/11/2018 20:53

I've no words just Sad

AssassinatedBeauty · 07/11/2018 20:56

There were witnesses that saw her being held down by her throat, down a dark muddy lane, no evidence/witnesses saying that they even kissed before that. And yet his word is believed. He just has to say the magic words that he believed she consented and bingo. Hell, he could probably have "accidentally" killed her and got away with it too.

peanut2017 · 07/11/2018 20:59

Scumbag stating 'well she wasn't crying' like seriously. We have such a long way to go

Littlechocolatepumkins · 07/11/2018 21:00

That's just horrifying, is there a petition or any way of supporting the victim or raising an outcry about the conduct of the case?

I wondered this.

I feel sad about how dehumanising such a trial must be for the young woman. Well it's not just the trial, its the whole thing. I'm not sure if dehumanising is the right word. I hope someone is telling her she matters.
