Small university city. Small but relatively active LGBT community, although the uni lot tend to stick to their own. I went to a few uni LGBT events in 2013 and it was all trans and NB/pan sexual stuff then. My city is the capital of woke.

Datun I did the whole straight thing. I got married at 20 to an abusive drunk. I got sucked in because I couldn’t see any other option. I’ve been down that road and had to fight my way out, with a child to raise on my own as well, and it’s a minor miracle that I managed it. The problem is, I couldn’t save any of these young women any more than anyone could’ve saved me, except for challenging this evil ideology. Stupid naive me thought that when I came out it would be easier than when I was a teen in the 90s. How very wrong I was, and I’m a grown woman with a bit of life experience behind me and solid critical thinking skills. I am ever greatful to the women who fought for my right to be who I am, and I stupidly assumed it was in the bag, but now we have to fight all over again, only this time it’s against people who purport to be our own. It’s the betrayal that stings the most, when I’m being called a nazi by other lesbians, women I’ve been on friendly terms with, women who’ve Thought well enough of me to offer me help when times were hard. I don’t know how they cope with the cognitive dissonance.
