On Twitter wearing a tee shirt saying ‘ Trans rights are human rights’

twitter.com/emmawatson/status/1052846691575980033?s=21

With tons of supportive comments underneath.

I would happily wear that T-shirt but on the reverse I would have ‘Woman - Adult Human Female’ (or vice versus) I agree with both statements. Maybe someone should make one and send it her 😄

mortgagemoans · 18/10/2018 15:23

vice versa obv. (bloody autocorrect

MouldyVoldy · 18/10/2018 17:38

I just saw her post on fb. Broke my heart a little. Oh Emma ... I know she comes from a good place but ... gah!

KingkillerKvothe · 18/10/2018 17:43

(Broken heart due to mermaids mention)

Deliriumoftheendless · 18/10/2018 17:56

At least it doesn’t say Sun’s Out Guns Out.

Thegirlinthefireplace · 18/10/2018 18:32

I was instinctively disappointed but as others have said, her Eminem's was always part of her brand and she's promoting that brand with that tweet. Her feminism credentials have always been shaky.

NopeNi · 18/10/2018 18:32

Ah great. The millionaire actress with mansions and security teams, who will never, ever be reliant on public facilities or gyms or shit hospitals; who will never be manipulated as a child into thinking she needs her breasts cut off; who doesn't ever have to talk with anyone outside her preferred circles ...

Of course she can back up the group saying that women don't need single-sex spaces anymore. Because SHE doesn't need them.

Badly done, Emma, badly done!

Mumfun · 18/10/2018 18:37

Very disappointing.

She will be very embarrassed by the Mermaids connections eventually

FekkoTheLawyer · 18/10/2018 18:40

I hope she has a dim assistant who is driving her twitter account. What does she know about the real world? Being very rich and famous certainly protects you from day to day crap.

acivilcontract · 18/10/2018 18:53

I was talking to DH about Mermaids last night and he was asking how we had ended up in this situation and I said I thought it was kids company all over again, interesting to see others have this idea as well.

FekkoTheLawyer · 18/10/2018 18:57

I was wary of kids company too.

I knew people associated with it and even through they were very committed, it just sounded flake to me - all very good intentions but not well executed. Like spoiling a crying child with presents when this won't really help them in the long run. People were very evangelical about the charity though.

AspieAndProud · 18/10/2018 19:32

Waves wand:

’Penis evanesco!’

DryHeave · 18/10/2018 19:38

So much for #HeForShe.

AspieAndProud · 18/10/2018 19:45

If Watson is looking for a cause to champion maybe she can campaign against ‘cake’, the bisturbile cranabolic amphetamoid that is destroying kids lives:

Sometimes I wonder if the whole TRA thing is a Brass Eye sketch Chris Morris forgot to stop shooting.

Celebrities will repeat any old bollocks if they aren’t prepared to look into what they are campaigning about.

SPOFS · 18/10/2018 19:48

I can't see anything wrong the t-shirt

I support the rights of trans people, as do most people here I think?

FekkoTheLawyer · 18/10/2018 19:53

Its not the tshirt it's who she @-ed in the post.

boatyardblues · 18/10/2018 20:12

You have just reminded me of Brass Eye’s Nonce Sense campaign. Priceless!

EeveePHD · 18/10/2018 21:09

Good on her! Go Emma go!

NotBadConsidering · 18/10/2018 21:17

She has never been mauled groped and had voyuers pray on her. Shame on her lack of empathy for women and girls

Hang on a minute: while I don’t agree with what she’s done here, don’t forget she had the tabloids running articles and posting photos of her and trying to get upskirt photos when she turned 18 because she was now “legal”.

breastfeedingclownfish · 18/10/2018 21:21

Meh

aspie

I was thinking about brass eye the other week. I’m not sure you could even make that nowadays. Of course, that means the need for it is even stronger.

What is chris Morris up to these days?

gendercritter · 18/10/2018 21:48

I can't see anyone on this thread trying to silence Emma Watson. Goodness what a thing to say.

Lots of people are saying in fact that they agree or have no problem with the t-shirt but tagging such a terrible charity is an act which shows she has a poor grasp of this very important debate.

I don't think this thread is unreasonable.

loveyouradvice · 18/10/2018 21:50

Oh no... I was an admirer of EW.

T shirt fine - just concerned about who she has referenced in her tweet.

SHE DID NOT HAVE TO PROMOTE THEM to maintain her "value".... she is a very intelligent woman and I believe she thinks she knows what she is doing and it makes me very sad

LorettasBox · 18/10/2018 21:55

Yep. Emma Watson has clearly posted this tweet in a vacuum and therefore should only be commented on as a person saying an uncontroversial thing about human rights.

Except that the issue has been mobilised to attack women's rights quite openly, and as a despicable foisting of medicalised abuse on children, which Emma could have discovered if she had done even twenty minutes surfing on her phone.

So, I'll retain my personal opinion as a woman that she has made a naive and self serving call by posting this tweet, whether or not Emma or anyone else approves of it. I haven't tried to 'silence' her - she has a fecking enormous following and one thread of cross women criticizing her tone deaf choice on MN is not silencing anyone else either.

So not into this ironic scolding women for disagreeing with another woman.
