On Twitter wearing a tee shirt saying ‘ Trans rights are human rights’

With tons of supportive comments underneath.

Its Kids Company all over again. High media profile, loved by luvvies, and disappears in a stench of smoke.

FlowerpotFairyHouse · 18/10/2018 11:15

Trans rights are human rights.

And rightly so.

However...

Women's rights are Women's rights.

And not the same thing.

Women's rights are also human rights but they also occupy a unique space.

But Trans rights are not Women's rights.

And TW don't need Women's rights what with them being based on biology they don't share.

TM already have Women's rights based on their biology.

gendercritter · 18/10/2018 11:19

I am going to be kind (Hmm) and say a lot of clever and informed celebrities treated Kids Company as if it was wonderful amd absolutely sacred. No one is immune to getting caught up with something which, if they engaged their brains just a little bit, they would see was very foolish. It's not really that long ago that I'd have looked at that photo and thought 'great! How inclusive. The world needs to be kinder.' A lot of women here would have done so too.

I bet Emma would get it if she sat down and actually read more about Mermaids. I say give her time. We just need to keep showing women like her politely (or not!) and firmly that the emperor has no clothes on.

HuckfromScandal · 18/10/2018 11:20

I agree with her that Trans rights are human rights, but she is not getting how Mermaids et all are trying to trample over women's rights at the same time.

Before I got involved, educated and organised - I totally would have understood and supported the T-shirt and the claim, I still do TBH.

My issue is not and never has been about Trans rights, and will never be about the subjugation of Trans rights. My issue is trans rights that undermine and remove my rights.

So - at face value - I support her T-shirt.
The problem is she is being "educated" by the incredibly disingenuous TRA brigade.

LorettasBox · 18/10/2018 11:27

I'm never quite sure why some think we should fawn over the opinions of people who make their living saying words written by other people.

I mean sure, Hermione was pretty cool, and Belle was the first Disney Princess who was bookish, but what exactly distinguishes Emma Watson as a high profile 'Feminist' beyond her self identification?

'Trans rights are human rights' is right, of course, but it's a loaded statement now when people are pointing out that the rights demanded will negatively affect women's rights.

Looks to me like Emma is still doing what she does best - saying someone else's words without needing to engage any original thinking herself.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 18/10/2018 11:28

Yes, exactly.

Apollo440 · 18/10/2018 11:38

JKR needs to have a quiet word.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 18/10/2018 11:41

Agree with the others

Obviously trans rights are human rights

As are mens rights, children's rights and mens rights

Sooooo.....

Bit stuck, isnt it stating the bleedin' obvious

Needmoresleep · 18/10/2018 11:45

gendercritter, my neighbour's firm did some early pro bono PR work for Kids Company but pulled out quickly having decided that their management were "impossible" to work with.

Due diligence is not that hard. I am surprised that EW's management company do not routinely do some for her to help prevent her looking like a numpty.

Yes, women with wealth (like Emma Watson) can to some extent avoid the negative consequences of self ID for themselves and their daughters. Being charitable I suspect she hasn't thought through things like Karen White and J Brooks, but she's still throwing women and young girls under the bus (even if through ignorance) if she supports mermaids.

It's interesting how the pro-women and girls side is mostly grassroots normal women, without wealth. We've achieved so much considering the lack of serious money. I was wondering the other day how much money Posie, FPFW and WPUK have raised, how many have donated and what the average donation is. We don't have much spare cash so I've been donating £10 here and there when I can. And consciously going without the little treats I'd occasionally get myself (a coffee in Sainsbury's cafe) in order to do this. Bet I'm not alone.

poorbuthappy · 18/10/2018 12:14

Loads of comments on there about how she is their favourite witch and people identify with her - I assume they realise Hermonie is a fictional character? Hmm

Gooseflesh · 18/10/2018 12:31

My first thought was ffs, that photo is ridiculous, plus @ Mermaids for Christ sake, however, whilst in no way excusing her, I feel she's made a rod for her own back here. Sometime, somehow she will be asked whether she believes in ladypenis, self id, medicalising kids etc. Even if she merely acknowledges the biological differences between women and transwomen she is going to get attacked just as JKR and AM were.

VelvetReVulva · 18/10/2018 12:50

There just seems to be 400 ‘yaaass qween!’ posts on her tweet. Ergh.

nellieellie · 18/10/2018 12:54

Maybe we need t shirts saying ‘trans rights are human rights’ AND ‘women’s rights are human rights’.

pennydrew · 18/10/2018 13:12

Yeah, I would buy a ‘ woman’s rights are human rights’ t-shirt

VelvetReVulva · 18/10/2018 13:18

That T-shirt could do with a Venn diagram on it...

pachyderm · 18/10/2018 13:18

What a virtue signalling ninny.

LorettasBox · 18/10/2018 13:26

Bet she's really pleased with the filter on the photo too. And the 'strong' pose. That's what feminism is all about, innit?

Feminism appears to be part of Emma's brand rather than a core ethic. She is exceedingly careful to take an unchallenging stance whilst being wholesome enough to be a good role model that parents want for their children.

There are worse ways for a child star to turn out, but no-one should be looking to her for proper feminism. I find this less infuriating than the whole he for she crap anyway.

LorettasBox · 18/10/2018 14:17

YY re:brand.

I doubt she got further into the issues than reading that slogan t-shirts were a huge fashion story this year.

HuckfromScandal · 18/10/2018 14:50

Interesting how "trans rights are human rights" is not misogynistic, but "woman - adult human female" is horribly transphobic.....
Double standards....

I genuinely believe that Emma Watson is just taking her information from a poor source, and could easily be peak transed.

DisrespectfulAdultFemale · 18/10/2018 15:09

Emma Watson can fuck off with her supposed feminist credentials. This is a woman who used a dishonest company to avoid paying taxes. You have zero credibility, dear. So fuck off.

Melamin · 18/10/2018 15:20

Every so often, back in the '70s, they would wheel some woman out who would say she didn't need women's lib and everything, because you could get what you wanted out of life be being a feminine woman. I am not sure these women ever changed their mind but they certainly benefitted from equal pay etc without complaint.

Do some people think that being feminist is what they wear?
