On Twitter wearing a tee shirt saying ‘ Trans rights are human rights’

With tons of supportive comments underneath.

This is making me really upset. I can't believe how many women are throwing us under the bus like this.

There is absolutely nothing logical about transgenderism. I NEVER believed someone could change sex. This is just so disappointing. Shame on Emma.

FekkoTheLawyer · 18/10/2018 22:13

They do say its the Harry Potter generation that believe in magic - and that humans can change sex.

Swearymum83 · 18/10/2018 22:59

@ShreddedBanksy - I am sure Emma will be fine. No need to stress about her and her millions and her privilege (youth, beauty, wealth). The rest of us however, are up shit creek thanks to her political stunt. None of this will affect her or her children.

Thegirlinthefireplace · 18/10/2018 23:17

Shredded Banksy I don't think you're understanding posters criticism. It's not criticism of the t shirt sentiment, it's the link to Mermaids that's the issue.

colouringinpro · 18/10/2018 23:22

Yes I saw that and was very disappointed. My dd idolises her. I did tweet her to suggest she reads more widely...

LassWiADelicateAir · 18/10/2018 23:23

I could add Emma Watson to my told you so list along with Corbyn and WEP.

I never understood why she was held in such high regard on MN. For someone who managed to get into Oxford and an Ivy League college she always struck me as vacuous.

MrGHardy · 18/10/2018 23:41

"I've got no problem with trans rights being human rights. Women's rights are human rights too. "

I do. Human rights are human rights. Blacks fought the civil rights movement. LGB the equal rights movement. Women have women's rights. Trans are the first to shout "trans rights are human rights". It fits right into their hyperbole and tactic of painting themselves as ultra victimized. It says "anyone who opposes what we say doesn't believe we are humans".

No group of people should have their demands elevated to status of "human right". Human rights apply to all humans equally. There can't be a subset of 'human rights' reserved solely for a specific group of people.

BumbrainusMaximus · 18/10/2018 23:50

Thick actress says something stupid. In other news, bears shits in woods,
I don’t care what she thinks. Nor should any sane person.

amandadecabernet · 19/10/2018 00:03

This is like 'all lives matter' though. If you're forced to refocus on other or 'all' issues simply because you've had the courage to flag up a problem (see 'intersectionality') that's subverting the original message. It's whataboutery and sabotage.

I have a personal cause, which is hanging onto women's hard-won rights which are constantly in danger of slipping away from us. I do not oppose trans rights, of course I don't, but why am I being asked to centre them when my concern is for women, whose rights are actually in jeopardy? And if women's rights are in danger, surely people who say they are women should be concerned.

Frankly I think it is problematic that we are not being allowed to lead the way on this issue. We know what it looks like when men are violent against people they think are not capable of fighting back. We call it misogyny. We could all be on the same side in theory, but instead we are being abused and threatened by folk who call themselves women and this is all about toilets. What does that say about them?

orangesnail · 19/10/2018 01:41

Emma is a hero who is putting her head above the parapet and risking/getting the wrath of ignorant transphobes by vocally supporting and coming our for trans rights. Its great that she is, and just further shows that those who oppose the GRA reforms and trans rights are a very vocal minority who do not represent the concerns of real women or real feminists.

LassWiADelicateAir · 19/10/2018 01:49

Emma Watson is a vacuous, virtue- signalling, self- promoting, annoying actress. And she was that long before today's utterance.

orangesnail · 19/10/2018 01:50

LassWiADelicateAir you sound jealous of her success and that people care about her opinion

LassWiADelicateAir · 19/10/2018 02:05

Oh fgs. What a stupid comment. Jealous of her success? How utterly ridiculous.

I could not care less about her success- you make it sound as if I were at school with her.

Emma Watson used to be fawned over on MN. Goodness knows why- she never said anything particularly original or controversial. Most of her wittering on was at the level of groping is bad/ educating girls is good/ violence against women is a bad thing. Ground breaking stuff not. All without actually doing anything other than the occasional over- wrought and highly publicised speech.

I'm mildly amused to see her fall from grace.

Most opinion polling, when done on an honest and open basis, does not support the theory of “trans rights” that I imagine you would argue for. Even if it did, that would be no reason to jeopardise safeguarding processes and remove the measures in place to enable women to take advantage of single sex environments when appropriate.
Emma Watson is deeply silly; the only thing she manages with any degree of astuteness is her own public profile which is what this is all about. The problem lies with a society which has decided she is worth listening to. She is not, on any topic. She knows nothing and she is nothing.

AspieAndProud · 19/10/2018 06:58

Acting is just repeating somebody else’s words while faking emotion. Film stars don’t even have to remember more than one or two lines at a time as the ‘performance’ is put together in the editing room. I don’t know why they have the esteem they do.

Watson just got lucky being cast in a major franchise when she was a child just because she looked cute and had a posh accent. I very much doubt she’ll have the continuing successful career of former child stars like Drew Barrymore. There really aren’t many big roles for spoilt brats in their thirties.

pachyderm · 19/10/2018 06:59

orangesnail: "Emma is a hero who is putting her head above the parapet and risking/getting the wrath of ignorant transphobes by vocally supporting and coming our for trans rights."

Don't make me laugh. Putting your head above the parapet on this issue means at the very least, being subjected to a torrent of verbal abuse, name-calling and threats of boycotting and professional harm from transactivists. Look at Alison Moyet or even JK Rowling when they deviated from the script. Further down the line, there's your children being threatened, rape and death threats, stalking and actual violence. Feminists have never done any of these things to trans people or their supporters. So you take back that stupid statement that Emma is putting her head above the parapet. She's doing the wokey-cokey like all the other showbiz luvvies who haven't given the matter much thought.

LadyRochfordsSpikedGusset · 19/10/2018 07:02

Disappointed. Thought she was more intelligent than that.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 19/10/2018 07:42

paffuto · 19/10/2018 07:55

mumsnet transphobes and those who oppose the GRA reforms and trans rights I'm sick to the back teeth of hearing "opposing GRA reforms" and "trans rights" being clumped together!!! For the millionth zillionth time, NO ONE is against trans rights, ONLY the GRA reforms. They are two separate issues. Jeeeez how many more times????

Datun · 19/10/2018 08:00

you sound jealous of her success and that people care about her opinion

This poster has ploppped on loads of threads gleefully scolding all and sundry for being hateful bigots. Ignore.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 19/10/2018 08:15

I know datun

They have been very busy Grin

FekkoTheLawyer · 19/10/2018 08:15

Start with the understorhat sex is not the same as gender.

What rights do people want - how will this benefit their life and society?
Transsexuals or transvestites? We need to distinguish here.
What legally is 'a woman'?
How can a woman be judges as a woman - who decides if Karen White is a woman or not?
Age of this - should a child be able to have their sex changed.
In what situations can someone refuse, say intimate care or rape counselling from a person with a penis? Will this change and should it?
Past identity - should this be 'erased' and what will the legal implications of this be? This can hide past crimes - so CRB checks and the boxes that say 'have you been convicted of a crime?' Become meaningless.

The case of a f2m blood donor - criticised the blood service for asking if they have had a pregnancy or had sex with a man who may have been exposed to Hiv. So 'men' can trumpet about getting pregnant but can't be asked if they have been pregnant? This was a relevant question due to blood from women who have been pregnant recently can be very dangerous to some recipients.

The Bunce.

It's opening up so many loopholes, what ifs and case by case situations.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 19/10/2018 08:23

What a twonk Grin
Great pose, really, ern, masculine?

Bowlofbabelfish · 19/10/2018 08:24

mumsnet transphobes and those who oppose the GRA reforms and trans rights

What rights dont transpeople have?

Should all spaces and services always be unisex?

Do you believe humans can change sex?
