Yes, birth certificates are simultaneously pointless and never used, and also must be made easier to change the sex recorded because it's utterly vital.The same as women should have no problem just telling any man with nefarious intent to 'Go away' in a firm, loud voice and therefore feel safer, but transwomen are so terribly vulnerable that they couldn't possibly use the toilet designated for their sex because they are far too frail and tremulous to stand up to the men in there.

Man decides he is a woman, completes a form, is given a GRC.
Because it would be unfair and too onerous to expect anything more.
It genuinely will be that simple.

In the meantime, all they have to do is say that they identify as a woman to gain the legal right to be treated as a woman. You cannot even ask to see a person's GRC.

I am very disappointed in Brian Paddick. Always thought he had integrity and intelligence. Some of those comments from a former highly regarded and decorated police officer are so unbelievably naive.

Currently - prove you’ve lived in opposite ‘gender’ for 2+ years, have medical proof of disphoria, pay £140.

Future - unknown. But government consultation says they want to make it less expensive, less ‘burdensome and intrusive’ in terms of proofs needed and de-medicalise the process (so no proof of disphoria). And cut the time you’d need to ‘live as’ significantly so that 18 year olds can get it done quicker. Probably will involve a notarised declaration you ‘intend to live as’ permanently.

Basically what you said, bicycle. Declare yourself the opposite sex and get a form signed to say so. Immediately have access to new legal documents (birth certificate etc) and therefore all the rights in law of the ‘new gender’.
