Can we talk about Pink News? Collecting examples of their propaganda.

Today's article about the Fairplay for women advert repeats a non-attributable quote,
"Critics have accused the newspaper of taking money from the group to publish “anti-trans propaganda.”

www.pinknews.co.uk/2018/10/10/metro-newspaper-full-page-ad-attacking-transgender-reforms

It has struck me given the apparent regualarity with which MPs stand between the PN banners and the number of pro-trans-propaganda pieces that some consideration needs to be given to the influence the business and its owners and editors have.

thoughts? examples?

Pink News has a definite influence and is an anti-women propaganda machine.

It’s not going to change though, and isn’t IPSO regulated.

I’d say analysing its bollocks is a waste of energy.

Starting up a women-friendly reality-friendly rival publication might make a good dent in its narratives.

Redkeyboard · 10/10/2018 21:47

Not meaning to be dismissive by the way. Your posts are hugely valuable Rowan.

I just think Pink News is an utterly lost cause.

Given the content of Pink News, I always wonder why so many politicians are in such a hurry to receive Pink News Awards.

I had wondered the same.

Have often wondered how one might make a montage of all of those surrounded by Pink News logos...

Who funds it and decides the editorial line?

WTFisawomxn · 10/10/2018 22:00

Didn't Teresa May speak at the PinkNews awards?

thehorseandhisboy · 10/10/2018 22:03

The last time I looked on the Pink News website, actual 'news' was somewhat lost among the adverts for banks, expensive shops and corporate experiences tbh.

R0wantrees · 10/10/2018 22:04

John Bercow The Speaker of the House of Commons for example.
He made a very partisan speech the week of the launch of the GRA consultation at a Pink News reception at Speaker's House.

'Critics have accused' = prxck news are the critics and they are doing the accusing (except when it's Kate. Kate is always good for a batshit quote).

WTFisawomxn · 10/10/2018 22:12

I suspect if we picked out each individual example of their bias we would just re-create the whole site, TBH.

Badgerthebodger · 10/10/2018 22:17

I’d love to see a montage. I could have a go, maybe, but I am a long way away from a graphic designer!

R0wantrees · 10/10/2018 22:18

There are some key ones though, for example spreading the belief that the women at the We Need To Talk at Westminster thought all trans people were 'parasites'.
That must have had an impact within the LGBT community

A politicians montage would be good. Maybe next to some choice quotes. Like the pro-incest one.

Maria Miller was Pink Mag MP of the year at some point.

miri1985 · 10/10/2018 22:22

This is pure propaganda, the people they are referencing said it didn't happen this way. Its blatant erasure of those who did start it like Stormé DeLarverie the black lesbian who threw the first punch.

If Stonewall UK were any good, I'd bother writing to them and getting them to do something about this erasure but I think we all know thats futile

Personally, I think one of the WORST examples is this article:
Stonewall, named after famous LGBT riot, disavows all violence

The Stonewall riots are often considered the birthplace of the LGBT rights movement, which is why Stonewall adopted its name.

But many were baffled over the weekend when the charity published a cryptic statement online disavowing ‘all violence’ in the name of LGBT rights.

(Cue Twitter screenshots with STONEWALL WAS A RIOT, etc)

It said that the statement was a response to stories about a clash between transgender activists and trans-exclusionary feminists at a rally last week in London’s Hyde Park.

A scuffle broke out between the two sides, with footage appearing to show a woman being hit in the face after she put a protester in a headlock.

www.pinknews.co.uk/2017/09/18/stonewall-named-after-famous-lgbt-riot-disavows-all-violence/

It's still up, unamended, despite the fact that evidence clearly showed that this was not the sequence of events. Additionally, PinkNews KNEW this was the context, but still wrote the piece insinuating that Stonewall had made the wrong call in very flaccidly saying "don't be violent," because they couldn't even muster saying outright "we condemn those people who physically attack and threaten women who have unpopular opinions."

MsMcWoodle · 10/10/2018 22:26

I think this is a great idea. Pink News having the vapors today because we finally got a chance to put our point of view. They've been at it for years. And Stonewall too.

KatVonGulag · 10/10/2018 22:28

Although I do think the most popular video they've posted recently was about a butch lesbian being treated badly. It got huge amounts of support. It was almost like a release for people. Something they could actually support. You'd think they'd wise up.

KatVonGulag · 10/10/2018 22:28

As in pink news wising up

R0wantrees · 10/10/2018 22:30

Didn't Benjamin Cohen (the editor?) get a prime seat on a couple of BBC programs eg Newsnight, Sunday politics at the beginning of the GRA consultation. Very easy interviews, no opposing position?

I'm not sure if he's the chap lurking near Theresa May during her speech, but on a lot of photos and videos, he's always nearby. Its curious. I'm not sure if any other media businesses have such access and gain so much product placement by MPs etc.

What I find interesting about the Pink News twitter page is that despite having 170k followers they have very low engagement - likes, comments etc..

Even with all the self promotion and many awards handed out it's almost like they don't have that much of a readership base or at least not one that interacts with them on twitter.

For a site that claims to be The world's most read LGBT+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans) digital media publisher this strikes me as odd.

WTFisawomxn · 10/10/2018 22:32

PinkNews had that interview with Penny Mordaunt when the consultation was launched as well, didn't they?

Q. There’s been a substantial amount of controversy, in terms of the backlash from some feminist groups. What does the government make of some of the concerns that have been raised?

A. We’re listening to everyone. The starting point for this is that trans people need to be supported and we need to ensure the processes that are there when they’re going through a transition are there to support them and not add to their stresses.

Trans women are women, that is the starting point for this consultation.

Of course we listen to all groups, and women’s groups in particular.

What we need is a very pragmatic approach to this where everyone is respected, where there is empathy for everyone’s position.

We will get the best results from this consultation if it is done in that environment with people being sensible, people looking at the facts and not making things up, and ensuring people are respected.

www.pinknews.co.uk/2018/07/03/penny-mordaunt-interview-gender-recognition-act/

A little while later, we now see that Penny has refused to meet with women's groups and hasn't done anything about the fact that women are being obstructed from participating in the democratic process.
