Leeds / West Yorkshire and injustices against women

Time and time again, injustices and crimes against women and girls occur in Leeds and West Yorkshire.

Can we compile a list here? Obviously there's Saville and Mesmac, the enabling of prostitution on the streets, West Yorkshire Police going after Posie. And Rotherham.

Leeds is also the home of Mermaids, and it was Susie Green who made the complaint about Posie to West Yorkshire police, for being 'deliberately truthful' about Susie travelling to Thailand in order for her 16 years old child to have sexual reassignment surgery.

(Remember the Mumsnet guidelines, so that the thread will stand for reference)

If you have saved any articles, can you post them too please?

Women have been abducted off the street and raped, their attackers walk free because of the red light district.

I know there's been "grooming" (mass sexual abuse of minors) in West Yorkshire that's been overlooked by authorities. It's generally known in criminal justice circles that WYP are one of the dodgiest police forces in the country.

MESMAC in Leeds host Action for Trans Health meetings at their Leeds offices.

Yorkshire Ambulance Service had Karen Jones (convicted killer and sex offender) train ambulance staff in transgender issues.

There’s this comment under the times article today:

That Telegraph article

Where are the scare quotes?

"Teacher living next to 'legal' red light district was raped by man who believed she was a prostitute"

Surely generally the excuses that men give - at least the papers etc pretend that there is a chance they are not being truthful.

The idea that they genuienely thought she was a prostitute when they had to bundle her into the car while she protested and she told them no she was not a prostitute.

These men were RAPISTS who kidnapped and raped a woman.

What the police and the telegraph mean is that it didn't matter that she was raped as the men may have been unconviced that she wasn't a prostitute and it's fine to rape prostitutes.

What a disgusting article about a disgusting situation.

The situation there is a disgrace and I agree that this police force seem to have an institutional hatred of women.

Roomba · 01/10/2018 09:48

I become increasingly convinced that the Red Riding films were just documentaries. And nothing much has changed in W Yorks frankly.

Chunkamatic · 01/10/2018 09:49

Rotherham is in South Yorkshire.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 01/10/2018 09:49

There being no prosecution when 4 men kidnap and rape a woman off ths street and one rapes her

Is a statement about why we need feminism if ever there was one.

Those utter utter cunts. And all teh while we have the papers reporting in such a way as to make sure that the public think women and girls are usually lying > why do they have that agenda.

Whole thing stinks.

Of course in our brave new genderist world it will be completely obscured that the people injuring raping killing abusing in Holbeck are MEN and the people being injured raped murdered abused are WOMEN.

And there's your end point in the MRA fest that is TRA.

Roomba · 01/10/2018 09:57

Yeah, I am very aware of how S Yorks Police deal with vulnerable girls and women too. I grew up there and went to school with girls who were in care/lived in children's homes. Appalling lack of concern for their safeguarding and wellbeing (not just police tbf, no one gave a toss), and it certainly hasn't improved over the last 30 years as seen in recent court cases/inquiries.

ApplestheHare · 01/10/2018 10:02

I'd be interested to compare the crime stats (laptop is broken and this phone hates the website) for West Yorks versus other counties rather than counting high-profile cases. We're in West Yorks and I've found it feels significantly safer than other areas (London, midlands, south east) I've lived, even if we are a bit behind on equality for women.

Chunk
"Rotherham is in South Yorkshire."

Better than average conviction rate but only 11% of reported rapes make it to court. Of the 89% that do not, need to know % down to failings in CJS.

There was one of the " grooming" rape cases in Keighley West Yorkshire, 12 year old vulnerable girl, police failed to act initially.

KatVonGulag · 01/10/2018 10:39

I've just followed that link to the ambulance staff training.

I need to dose my mind in bleach

Years ago I reported a pro-prostitution blog to the police online because the writer boasted that the local police came in for 'freebies' to their brothel in Leeds. The writer of the piece moves in the CAAN circle (like Jane Fae, Roz Kaveney).

I checked the blog about a week later and the offending section had been silently removed. That was creepy.

How about MNs own Emma coming from Leeds Uni to intern at Mumsnet, take screenshots of the system back end, then posted on the Internet slagging off Mumsnet and all who sail in her. Massively freaking out anyone who could be put at risk of harm by doxxing.

ShimmyShimmyYa · 01/10/2018 11:22

oh goodness, NewWomen, when did that happen?
