West Yorkshire Police (Diversity Unit) applaud the Guides for standing up for Trans Rights

"Without fear or favour", the police are supposed to NOT involve themselves in politics.

And this is politics, make no mistake - designed to lobby for Trans Rights and impact on women.

The Chief Constable may recall Savile, or the Grooming Gangs. She or he may have heard of Stephen White, but I don't expect they'll be aware that a barn-pot is spouting loaded political messages in the force's name.

Bang out of order and incompatible with the role of the police.

The comments suggest that the twatterati are not impressed.

theOtherPamAyres · 26/09/2018 18:08

Julia Hartley Brewer has spotted it, saying:

Yeah, and when a 13yr old girl is sexually assaulted by a 13yr old boy who claims to be a trans girl, so is sleeping alongside her in the same dorm or tent on a @Girlguiding trip, will you still think it’s “great”, @WYP_Diversity ? #NotMyDaughter

I wonder if she'll invite that West Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner back on her morning show? Or will she go for the top and invite the Chief Constable?

Keep it up, Julia.

West Yorkshire Police?

With every word and every action, they make Red Riding utterly believable

Popchyk · 26/09/2018 18:14

It is just such a monumentally stupid thing to say.

Any victim of crime will be raging that the WYP are spending time on this instead of pursuing justice for victims of crime.

Spend your time fighting crime instead, fellas.

That's actually what we actually pay you for.

They are getting a drubbing on Twitter thankfully.

That said, I'm glad they are that stupid.

It has made a few people on Twitter aware of the girl guiding thing.

CrackpotsArePots · 26/09/2018 18:17

Love that thread

I would absolutely not feel comfortable reporting anything to the West Yorkshire Police

seafret · 26/09/2018 18:23

Do West Yorkshire police tweet so much (or at all) about the terrible abuses against girls committed by the horrendously numerous Grooming Gangs? Where is their activism for that oppressed, target and victimised group?

OvaHere · 26/09/2018 18:30

www.westyorkshire.police.uk/about-us/our-standards/professional-standards/making-complaint

This is the complaints form. Don't hold out much hope because it seems like the role of the IOPC has been reduced so all but the most serious complaints are dealt with internally.

Popchyk · 26/09/2018 18:57

That Twitter thread is a joy to behold though. 160 comments so far.

People are either patiently pointing out that allowing boys and men into Girl Guiding is an obvious safeguarding issue.

Or they are fucking raging at the WYP wasting their time on commenting on the policies of third party organisations, and therefore not spending time on policing.

GulagMilkMonitor · 26/09/2018 19:00

Surely the police aren’t supposed to make such blatant political or ideological statements?

WichBitchHarpyTerfThatsMe · 26/09/2018 19:08

Wow, just wow! That is bang out of order. What were they thinking by tweeting that??

theOtherPamAyres · 26/09/2018 19:18

Police Officers mustn't get involved

Code of Ethics (enacted 2014)

^Political activity

6.5 Police officers must not take any active part
in politics. This is intended to prevent you
from placing yourself in a position where your
impartiality may be questioned.

^1.2 Statutory basis of the Code

1.2.1 The .... the Code of Ethics [has been issued] as a code of practice under section 39A of the Police Act 1996 (as amended by section 124 of the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 20214)^

West Yorkshire Police and the Diversity Unit are in breach of the statutory code of practice.

West Yorkshire police. Hmmm. Just a long list of corrupt / poor policing. I don't think anyones interested in the opinion of West Yorkshire police. They hit rock bottom a very long time ago.

VickyEadie · 26/09/2018 19:34

They're the police force that cosseted and protected Savile (even when girls and women reported him to them) all those years - aren't they?

Ereshkigal · 26/09/2018 19:44

My friend and I were both raped (different occasions) in WYP jurisdiction. I'm glad I didn't report mine. My friend did and they were pretty useless.

breastfeedingclownfish · 26/09/2018 19:54

You know it's getting really serious when the police are starting to make political statements against the safeguarding of girls.

There IS an agenda here. And Yorkshire appears to be right at the centre of it.

OvaHere · 26/09/2018 19:58

WYP have been heavily trained by Mermaids. Given the shared location they were probably the first to be got at.

You know how TRAs, apologists, etc keep telling us we're being ridiculously alarmist and 'not all men are predators'?

Well...

Knicknackpaddyflak · 26/09/2018 20:03

Can someone with a Twitter account please tag the Home Office into that and point out the Code of Ethics and wtf they're going to do when the WY Police need to deal with an incident like the Karen White oh whoops that wasn't supposed to happen one, and their impartiality isn't just questioned, it's a publically dead and stinking corpse?

ThefusilliJerry · 26/09/2018 20:05

Entirely in line with WYP long history off enabling male sex offenders. No surprise here.

gendercritter · 26/09/2018 20:08

Wtf were they thinking? This will damage trust in them even more

WrongOnTInternet · 26/09/2018 20:09

Policemen have never been on women's side. Nottingham's treatment of misogyny as a hate crime, and Manchester's agreement that women rarely lie about rape, are the exceptions. Absolutely worthless for women. We need proper women's police forces imo.

theOtherPamAyres · 26/09/2018 20:30

We need proper women's police forces imo

On 1st January 1976, the day the first Equality Act came into force, women and children police departments were closed and the women officers were redeployed to so-called "front-line" policing.

Specialising in crimes against women and children, domestic violence, missing persons, truants and the prostitution trade - police women's expertise was not as valued as it ought to have been. Skills were lost. The focus on women and children was lost.

Ground is being recovered, but it is slow going.

It is far, far easier to work on little projects and PR campaigns to promote 'inclusivity' than to be effective in tackling crime and disorder. The public aren't stupid. They know that.

They know that the way to restore confidence in policing is to be bloody good at preventing crimes and bringing offenders to justice. Everything else is just window dressing.

We see you, Diversity Unit. Nice curtains at your window!
