Leeds / West Yorkshire and injustices against women

Time and time again, injustices and crimes against women and girls occur in Leeds and West Yorkshire.

Can we compile a list here? Obviously there's Saville and Mesmac, the enabling of prostitution on the streets, West Yorkshire Police going after Posie. And Rotherham.

Leeds is also the home of Mermaids, and it was Susie Green who made the complaint about Posie to West Yorkshire police, for being 'deliberately truthful' about Susie travelling to Thailand in order for her 16 years old child to have sexual reassignment surgery.

Sue Pascoe is from North Yorkshire.www.barcroft.tv/former-hunt-master-sue-pascoe-transgender-journey Sue was recently appointed as an inclusion adviser to Channel 4

Also a hopeful Conservative Party candidate

9/8/2018 thread following announcement of SP's appointment by Ch4 with a lot of background and interesting comment (its worth reading the MN comment mid thread re deletions)

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3331095-Channel-4-appoints-a-new-advisor-on-inclusion

Sue Pascoe was very dismissive of radical feminists, especially the 'ones' that are lesbians too on the SKY GRA special where she was also interviewed. Sue asserts that she is female, will die female and also talks of being 'a woman with a trans past'.
The SKY special also featured Jess Bradley (just before the NHS suspension for alleged flashing in workplace / public places) stating 'doesn't think such thing as a real woman' etc
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3311038-Sky-News-9-30am-today-re-GRA

Sue Pascoe also very anti Transgender Trend & has supported the parliamentary petition against their school toolkit.
The petitition apparently was deliberately re-worded after a previous one which was more explicitly targetted against TGT was rejected/withdrawn.

January 2018 Yorkshire Post: 'Paedophile ex-council chief was also trustee of child abuse charity'

(extract)
A paedophile who helped to run the children’s safety unit in one of Yorkshire’s biggest cities was also a trustee of a controversial charity that helps young victims of abuse, it has emerged. Heathcliffe Bowen, who served three terms as chairman of Ilkley Parish Council, was jailed for five years on Monday for paying an under-age boy for sex and taking part in explicit online chats with other youngsters. The judge at Bradford Crown Court branded him a “predatory paedophile” who “couldn’t help himself”. Some of the offences were committed while Bowen, 50, was employed by Bradford Council as administrator of the city’s Safeguarding Children’s Board.

At the same time, he was a trustee of the Leeds-based charity Yorkshire MESMAC and a director of its trading arm. The charity was criticised last year over concerns that its rules appeared to allow workers to sleep with their clients. Its chief executive, Tom Doyle, said Bowen had resigned from the Board of Trustees before any allegations came to light and was required to resign as a director when it was learned he was under investigation. He added that the charity’s rules had been rewritten with the help of the Safeguarding Children Board in Leeds." (continues)

It's not just Leeds or West Yorkshire it's happening everywhere in the UK.

R0wantrees · 02/10/2018 07:45

Child abuse and Child Sexual Exploitation is widespread yes.

There will though always be areas where there are specific systemic issues / clustered issues etc.

R0wantrees · 02/10/2018 08:25

Its really worth following Jessica Eaton's 'Victim Focus' and her work on CSE. She ran a successful campaign #NoMoreCSEfilms.

There was some sort of link to the films with Yorkshire MESMAC involved individual/s. I'm not sure of the details though.

Popchyk · 02/10/2018 10:05

Jessica Eaton contacted the police because of the harassment towards her from Phil Mitchell, leader of the Mesmac Blast project (which was a program for young male survivors of sexual abuse).

thread here

After criticism from the Charity Commission around safeguarding, Mesmac closed Project Blast earlier this year.

R0wantrees · 02/10/2018 10:16

Thanks Popchyk I couldn't remember the exact details

The Blast project featured recently on a thread talking about Esmee Fairbairn foundation:

p21 Yorkshire Mesmac is recipient of one of the grants:

exploitation.

Discussion about nature of grants also awarded to Girl Guides, Gendered Intelligence, Trans Media Action, Women in Prisons

West Yorkshire Police have been active women-haters for decades
So many scandals and never anything done

They've just learned better bullshit so they can continue actively hating women

It is institututional and gets passed on automatically to new coppers.

R0wantrees · 02/10/2018 13:57

Julia Hartley Brewer interviewed a Yorkshire police comissioner about 'hate crime' recently. Discusses actual crimes not investigated.

'South Yorkshire Police are encouraging people to report non-criminal hate. What is it and do the police have the right to know? Watch the full debate between Julia Hartley-Brewer and South Yorkshire's Police & Crime Commissioner Dr Alan Billings.'

Popchyk · 02/10/2018 14:13

Esmee Fairbairn Foundation coming up a lot recently.

WPUK meeting was cancelled on the say-so of five men, the signatories to this letter. Joni Clarke is in the Sociology Dept at Leeds Uni, where Sally Hines is a professor. Hines has made a career out of trans stuff (transpregnancy.leeds.ac.uk/profiles/sally-hines/).

TigerDrankAllTheWaterInTheTap · 19/10/2018 17:06

Well, here's another one. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-45918845 Dreadful case of sexual abuse of young girls in Huddersfield. Families and community members reported it to WYP repeatedly but no action was taken for years.

Ekphrasis · 19/10/2018 17:18

Yes I'm listening to this and just so horrified.

LizzieSiddal · 19/10/2018 17:25

Stephanie Hayden reported Graham Linehan to West Yorkshire Police, despite not living there. I wonder why they chose that particular Police Force? Graham was given a 'verbal harassment warning'.

TigerDrankAllTheWaterInTheTap · 19/10/2018 17:26

Those poor girls and their families. They were so young, and so much younger than their abusers - how could anybody feel they were in any way responsible for what happened to them?

LizzieSiddal · 19/10/2018 17:26

All these horrific examples Sad

They seem to hate women and girls.

LizzieSiddal · 19/10/2018 17:28

Did anyone listen to BBC PM, horrifying! A Farmer reported finding these poor girls on the moors, he reported this to the police and they did nothing.

HelenaDove · 19/10/2018 17:31

Did anyone see this bloke with Laura Bates on Channel 4 news last night

Full of excuses.

www.dailymail.co.uk/home/index.html

7 year reign of terror in West Yorkshire. I wonder what the WY police were so busy doing that they couldn't find the time to tackle this Hmm

Ekphrasis · 19/10/2018 17:34

And yet happily trotted down to see Posie and stayed over night.

ImPreCis · 19/10/2018 17:46

Also the MP (I think) who said he had been talking about this for 10 years, and he couldn’t get anyone interested. No broadcaster or news co would touch it. He told them they would have parliamentary privilege, but nothing.

Is this reminding anyone of anything, slightly more recent?

terryleather · 19/10/2018 17:46

I was listening Lizzie , the bit about the farmer finding the girls "dumped" on the moors made my blood run cold.

The report was pretty scathing of WYP and their role in this, especially wrt how they dealt with the girls.

I wish I could say I was shocked but I'm not, just sickened that once again a group of young women have been subject to horrendous abuse, shat on by the authorities and hardly anyone with power appears to have given a fuck.

hackmum · 19/10/2018 17:47

I heard the PM report too. Girls repeatedly reported the crimes to the police and the police did nothing. Absolutely nothing. Sometimes the girls were abandoned on the moors if they refused to have sex, and the farmer who sometimes rescued them also reported the crimes to the police.

Not only did the police do sweet FA, they told at least one girl that it was her fault and she "wanted" it.

West Yorkshire Police are complicit in these crimes. They are as guilty as the men who committed them. The officers responsible should be in jail. The most misogynistic police force in Britain. How utterly vile.

TigerDrankAllTheWaterInTheTap · 19/10/2018 17:54

OK, bear with me on this. Ever since civil rights rocketed up the agenda in the 60s, the police have been on the back foot trying to react to the general public's changes in attitudes to all sorts of things like homophobia and racism. Eventually that translated into getting equality and diversity training. It clearly isn't being very well delivered or understood. Would I be right in assuming that the police were told they should respect other people's cultural sensitivities and this somehow translated into 'If these men were white we'd be thinking about prosecution but this is probably normal where they come from and anyway how could we put these kids in the witness box? Nah. Let's concentrate on car theft'.

Social services don't seem to have been any better. These girls weren't important enough for anybody to rock the boat.

All comes back to misogyny.
