Is the OED now hate speech?

Interesting to note some of the sources of the complaints: twitter.com/Direct_PS/status/1044263398333132800

Worrying post on that twitter feed from a GG leader saying she's proud of their inclusive policy and doesn't see why anyone needs to know if there's a penis in the girls' facilities.

birdbandit · 25/09/2018 17:27

I think people respond to facts presented to them personally. Make it super easily digestible.

A quick letter, with pictures and links to prove you aren't a hater.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 25/09/2018 17:28

The billboard company and ocado showed their colours very very quickly remember. It wasn't their lawyers saying 'Jesus we have a big problem here!' It was some bloke on Twitter.

That's all I need to know. Judge, jury and executioner - who did the consult with? On the say-so of the good Dr (for now) Baby.

birdbandit · 25/09/2018 17:28

Perverse, a real guide leader or someone who tells twitter they are one?!?!

AsAProfessionalFekko · 25/09/2018 17:29

Maybe a fat bloke in nappies and a dog collar who identifies as a guide?

miri1985 · 25/09/2018 17:31

Saw on twitter a photo of what primesight have replaced the billboard with. Its one from cancer research UK, factually it says "obesity" with some letters missing then below it "guess what is the biggest preventable cause of cancer after smoking".

Its true but I'm sure it would hurt a lot of peoples feelings especially those who don't feel that their obesity is preventable. If that factual billboard was "transphobic" then this is undoubtedly "fatphobic"

Wonder if they'll remove this one if people men complain.

I would love to show, for example, Patrick Harvie's mum or female relatives, what exactly he is supporting. What he's sacrificing their right for.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 25/09/2018 17:33

God I thought that was a joke. Wasn't there loads of complaints - from real people - about that one?

RiverTam · 25/09/2018 17:37

Tanith well, having been on the phone with Ocado for 45 minutes, most of which was spent on hold, I can tell you that they don’t have a response. Nothing. Nada. They clearly thought they could tweet what they did and no-one would come knocking. Breathtaking disregard for their no-doubt predominately female customer base.

I was going to start using them. Not any more.

Kyanite · 25/09/2018 17:38

That obesity advert has already been criticised...there are medical conditions and medications that make it very difficult for people to control their weight. This has got to be more offensive than pointing out what a woman is!

AsAProfessionalFekko · 25/09/2018 17:39

I wonder who at Ocado made the call and drives the twitter page?

Cancer Research toned down obesity campaign after 'fat-shaming' backlash

Ocado will be getting a letter from me.

But not just them, I'll send letters to all the local supermarket managers, as well as head offices, about the war on women.

Sarahconnor1 · 25/09/2018 17:44

Tam

To be honest I didn't think there would be an explanation its just another knee-jerk reaction to a footstamping man.

Ocado account will be cancelled today. Purchase power is one of the few things we have left.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 25/09/2018 17:46

I wonder how many were cancelled today? I use mine to order catering for work so it's not an insubstantial account. I also send food as presents to people using them so there goes my sisters bacon supply!

Needmoresleep · 25/09/2018 17:47

We need a boycott list. I do not want my money to go to ‘boys club’ businesses who do not support the safety of girls and vulnerable women.

Silly Presidents Club man.

PerverseConverse · 25/09/2018 17:50

@birdbandit I can't find it now, sorry. Was going to screen shot it.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 25/09/2018 17:51

I'm sure someone has a spreadsheet.

Starter for ten:
Lush
Marmite

RiverTam · 25/09/2018 17:52

Well, they need to learn to think before virtue signalling.

seafret · 25/09/2018 17:53

Yep, uncritical knee-jerk man appeasing.

I feel bad as a reult of the the cancer one (being too fat mylef) and it is rather shaming. Imagine walking by it as a fat person and thinking that everyone will be looking at it then you. Better to take that message into magazines.

Wouldn't ask them to take it down though - they are trying to help me stay alive and well after all.

Ocado have given me extra time to order/cancel but I guess cancelling my Ocado will help on both scores.

OvaHere · 25/09/2018 18:01

Thankfully I've only used Ocado once for a Christmas order which was abysmal. Sainsbury's all the way for me, their delivery service has always been top notch.

StealthNinjaMum · 25/09/2018 18:08

Well I've been using Ocado for over ten years. I guess I will be sending them an email / phoning tomorrow after I get back from is it Westminster magistrates court?

Ereshkigal · 25/09/2018 18:15

TRAs still probably wont be happy. Remember that awful tweet last week where someone was bleating about their selective masectomy being bumped in order to treat some poor woman with aggresive breast cancer.....

They're having a protest about it tomorrow to coincide with DoH board meeting at Skipton House in London.

Ereshkigal · 25/09/2018 18:18

I'd like one with Stonewalls definition of trans.

This.
