Lib Dems choose trans rights over Fair Play for Women

Thethiniceofanewday · 19/09/2018 20:42

  • Young Liberals tweet a photo of a Fair Play for Women leaflet being put in the bin, commenting "Putting transphobia in the bin where it belongs @fairplaywomen . Spreading this vile discrimination at Lib Dem conference, a place where we 100% fully support trans rights, is a disgrace."
  • Lib Dems LGBT+ account tweets that 'female' is a misogynist term and shouldn't be used.
  • Sarah Brown tweets "I have never felt so accepted and supported as a trans person, and as a woman, than at this Lib Dem conference. Feels like lots of people have realised how bad the abuse is and have really come out for us, for all of us."

For those who don't know Sarah, she's the TRA who told a woman to suck on her pickled formaldehyde balls.

Also at conference, it is announced that Sarah has been nominated for the Women Lib Dems Patsy Calton award. The award is given to a "woman in the party who has been nominated by her peers for the outstanding contribution they have made. The award is meant to showcase the obstacles that women have overcome, and their journey to get them to where they are now."

So that's the Greens, the Lib Dems and Labour all fully on board the trans train. Who am I supposed to vote for?

Join the rest of us who have already decided to vote for the 'none of the above' party.

OlennasWimple · 19/09/2018 20:51

I'm going to write "None of the above" at the bottom of the ballot paper with XX next to it

BesmirchingMotherhood · 19/09/2018 20:51

I left the LDs over their shocking attitude to women.

AspieAndProud · 19/09/2018 20:54

Also at conference, it is announced that Sarah has been nominated for the Women Lib Dems Patsy Calton award.

She's obviously trying to break through that 'Calton ceiling' thing we keep hearing about.

BlardyBlar · 19/09/2018 20:57

If Brown wins that award, I will be sorely disappointed. It appeared from Sarah’s own Twitter feed that there had been deliberate muddying of the equality laws during time served on the council. Still nominated to stand again despite that? Where are these massive obstacles?

Carrrotsandcauliflower · 19/09/2018 20:57

Lib Dem’s are shameful. But like you say so are Labour and Greens. Does make you wonder how clueless they are on EVERYTHING ELSE they do if they are this out of touch.

SanFranBear · 19/09/2018 20:59

I've just cancelled my membership - so fucking disappointed! Politically homeless now then, I guess.

I've never not voted in any election I am eligible for - now what?

anascrecca · 19/09/2018 21:01

What are the equality party saying about this issue? I'm really out of touch with politics but follow a little on here

Thethiniceofanewday · 19/09/2018 21:01

I try to vote in recognition that women (the cunty kind) fought for that right, but I find myself politically homeless.

The Lib Dems are a joke. Theyve always been full of misogynists too. No loss really.

Spindelina · 19/09/2018 21:03

I've never not voted in any election I am eligible for

The only election I’ve not voted in was the one where I’d just started miscarrying. Ho hum.

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 19/09/2018 21:05

Our only hope is if someone can persuade DoctorW to set up a women's liberation party off the back of FPFW

BesmirchingMotherhood · 19/09/2018 21:05

God, yes!

Thethiniceofanewday · 19/09/2018 21:07

Patsy Calton died of breast cance - being a woman actually killed her.

I was so angry I considered leaving labour after 20+ years
But in the end I thought what's best for me is to get more involved. I'm going to win influence and hold my line. Well I'm going to attempt to.

Dommina · 19/09/2018 21:21

Do you have a link to the lib dems LGBT+ tweet? I want to view the tweet but I can't find it. Have scrolled back to September.

RichardLongcross · 19/09/2018 21:22

That's fucking insulting OP, I hadn't realised the background to the award.

BesmirchingMotherhood · 19/09/2018 21:27

Here it is. Tbh, I don’t agree with OP’s interpretation of it though. (This account has spouted worse and is a large part of why I quit.)

IAmLurkacus · 19/09/2018 21:29

The Lib Dem’s are a fucking irrelevance. Even Vince Cable thinks that.

My current voting strategy is write to all candidates and if there’s a GC one vote for them even if it’s fucking UKIP

If no GC candidate vote for a female unless it’s Dawn/Stella/Angle/etc

If nobody GC or female then spoil ballot and we should perhaps agree on how to spoil it?

BesmirchingMotherhood · 19/09/2018 21:30

Yeah it’s bad news when your leader has already checked out. 🤷‍♀️

Thethiniceofanewday · 19/09/2018 21:35

Besmirching the tweet says "Referring to women as “females” is misogynistic. It sounds like we’re livestock. Please stop it."

I said: "Lib Dems LGBT+ account tweets that 'female' is a misogynist term and shouldn't be used."

What have I misinterpreted?

OP posts:
birdsdestiny · 19/09/2018 21:35

Yes but even in the Lib dems the tide is turning. The tweets in response to the young liberals putting women's rights in the bin are very interesting. There are Lib Dem members on there saying hold on ...

Dommina · 19/09/2018 21:45

What have I misinterpreted?

I don't want to speak for another poster here, but I also think it's slightly misinterpreted. For me, referring to women as 'females' kind of sounds... off. Outside of actual scientific speak ofc. I think the original star trekky post by the lib dems was a reference to the kind of (usually kind of geeky and insular) misogynistic bloke who would refer to women as females.

I think it makes more sense if youre familiar with reddity style chat.

So, yes it's true I AM female, but I can also see lib dems point about live stock. It's a very detached and often unkind way to speak about women, sometimes.

Don't think I explained myself well there, hope I made some kind of sense.

Dommina · 19/09/2018 21:46

I certainly don't agree with Sarah getting that award though. Not trying to be Goadby.

BesmirchingMotherhood · 19/09/2018 21:47

What have I misinterpreted?
No, you’re right. I don’t like ‘females’ being used where the right word really should be ‘women’, but it’s not misogynistic. This is the kind of shit that happens when people appropriate words.
