Lucy Masood:
"Proud of the FBU and PaulEmbery for ensuring that we did not vote to support the GRA Self ID resolution at the TUC today. The FBU cares and listens to its female members"

Maybe fuslii but this mad law is being championed by the Tories!

I'll take some to think things over as can't imagine not being in a union. Always have been and believe in them. It might be worth leaving and re-joining if they change their policy on this.

Procrastinator1 · 11/09/2018 18:08

Could women threaten to withhold their subs until this is reviewed, especially if women’s committees, if any, had no input.

BettyDuMonde · 11/09/2018 18:26

Fusilli, this is a cross party issue, so don’t be afraid to bring a Tory perspective to the discussion.

Tories have the older, boys club connected transwomen, the left have the young, internet addled MRA types.

theOtherPamAyres · 11/09/2018 18:27

The TUC will contribute to the consultation on the Gender Act. They will represent the views of their members.

How does one go about saying "not in my name"?

Acopyofacopy · 11/09/2018 18:32

Haven’t rtft - I am a member of NEU and most certainly did not know about this.
How/where can I voice my objection?

Xiaoxiong · 11/09/2018 18:35

DH is a member of ATL which is now part of NEU and said he had no idea that this was happening. How does this stuff usually go? Don't members get consulted?

ThefusilliJerry · 11/09/2018 18:50

I think the issue got traction among conservatives who saw it as akin to gay marriage - a quick win to show were not bigoted wankers anymore.
It’s now getting a bit of closer examination. Personally I think if a load of labour voters in marginal seats (you know who you are) were to email the right people indicating they’d switch from labour if the tories decide this in the right way that might concentrate some important minds.
My seat has a Tory majority of 26000 so I have no leverage with any of the fuckers

WarmWishes · 11/09/2018 19:01

If you are in a union you will know you haven't been consulted on this. As Pilgrim Tucker says the vast majority left it to lgbt committees to decide. Women weren't centred at all.

This is a big deal for so many women who will not be able to seek out union support if they have concerns over male sexed bodies sharing changing rooms, accommodation and all the usual. We won't be able to access their help if the GRA reform goes through.

So it could potentially exclude women from diverse cultural backgrounds from work when many already face significant barriers. Not to mention women who have experienced trauma and obviously women who simply do not want to share intimate facilities because they just don't want to.

I feel very angry. The unions apart from FBU have casually handed away our rights without any real consideration. It seems they have either accepted that TWAW or are too cowardly to speak out in this toxic climate or just don't take safeguarding seriously and are too ill informed to realise how very, very few men don't keep their cocks.

If you are in a union please, please do complain.

Thank you to the FBU who have abstained with a view to consulting with women. Obviously I would have preferred 'oppose' but I think right now, it was pretty brave.

GulagMilkMonitor · 11/09/2018 19:02

Can anyone point to a list of which unions are involved? Was it just education unions?

Turph · 11/09/2018 19:11

very, very few men don't keep their cocks
Typo?

EndoplasmicReticulum · 11/09/2018 19:11

This may be a daft question. But if it's education unions, how will that affect schools? Thinking about things like school trips, PE lessons etc.

arranfan · 11/09/2018 19:12

Can't point at a list as yet.

Looks like Unison spoke/voted in favour:

WarmWishes · 11/09/2018 19:13

List is here. It's not just teaching, it's probably all of them. www.tuc.org.uk/unions

WarmWishes · 11/09/2018 19:15

Turph yes typo. I meant to do a double negative!! I mean most transwomen DO keep their cocks!!

Melanippe · 11/09/2018 19:17

What a shitshow. What an absolute shower of bastards.

WarmWishes · 11/09/2018 19:18

Endo yes it will effect school in that way. Transwomen pe teacher or transgirls can enter changing rooms with kids. Could be an issue on trips. Everything you can imagine.

Turph · 11/09/2018 19:19

This is infuriating. Just disgusting. I can't believe the TUC has decided we no longer have a right to exist.

HawkeyeInConfusion · 11/09/2018 19:20

FFS Angry

2rebecca · 11/09/2018 19:26

Glad the BMA is not affiliated to the TUC. Will try and get myself as a rep at the next BMA conference to vote against any motions like this. Have already told the BMJ editor I was unimpressed with their pieces on legalising prostitution and transgender issues

Turph · 11/09/2018 19:27

Comments on my Union's Twitter account are 100% negative so far.
Just going to check the big two

Turph · 11/09/2018 19:30

Can't see it mentioned on Unite's twitter

placemats · 11/09/2018 19:31

How can the head of a Teacher's Union say this? Is there no regard for safeguarding? A few moving stories?

Already in the last 7 days there has been an announcement from the transport police in Manchester regarding false accusations/stories about razors behind stickers and the waste of police time.

The LGBTQ+ in Goldsmiths has been suspended following offensive tweets re the Gulag and made up 'stories' about the history of the Gulags in the USSR under Stalin.

I've cancelled my Unison membership.

Spindelina · 11/09/2018 19:31

Last I read, McCluskey was pro dialogue, no?

Turph · 11/09/2018 19:31

Nothing on Unison either. So the big two haven't even admitted they've passed this stupid motion

Turph · 11/09/2018 19:33

The agenda also suggests the motion was put forward by the TUC alphabet group rather than proposed by an actual union. It's the woke leading the woke. No way would this crap pass at branch level in any union.
