Brave and stunning Hannah Mouncey who has fought hard to be allowed to play in Australian women's football is adamant she has no physical advantages over her peers now she's started on HRT

That's correct. Practically weak as a kitten now, obv

SPOFS · 31/08/2018 22:38

How very brave and stunning she is. Smile

I hope she wins Glamour's 'Woman of the Year' award. I can't think of anyone more worthy.

I'd love to get her on for a Mumsnet webchat to gossip about clothes, make-up, and kittens.

C0untDucku1a · 31/08/2018 22:39

Yes looks like an equal match to me

NotTerfNorCis · 31/08/2018 22:40

Shameful.

Pumpkinsarepurple · 31/08/2018 22:40

Look at their hands in that one shot in comparison to the other player.

I am a massive rugby fan and there is a huge risk of serious injury to those players in a tackle situation.

OrchidInTheSun · 31/08/2018 22:40

I bet the women on the other team laugh when they see her. She's clearly no competition at all

It looks like the illustrations in kids' books of humans fighting titans or something

Also, it might be an unfortunate angle but look where the player in the black and white strip is being held, that will hurt.

LadybirdsAreBirds · 31/08/2018 22:48

It reminds me of boys' rugby - there's often some outlier - a big pubescent lad who looks like they drove the minibus.

Clearly not fair. Yet who are we to deny Hannah her human right to hopscotch over the many actual women who would have been in her place were it not for their unfortunate biological disadvantage? Who are we to deny her her right to hurt a member of the opposition?

Rosemary46 · 31/08/2018 22:48

Because of course the hormones will remove her biologically male heart, lungs, skeleton and muscles.

And replace them with sugar and spice and all things nice.

Take pity on Hannah, she can't even open a jar of pickles these days.

NotBadConsidering · 31/08/2018 22:51

Last I read Mouncey had returned to hand ball. Having previously represented Australia as a male, Mouncey is now playing in the female league in Victoria and has been selected to play for the Australian Women’s handball team.

Schrodingers

Yes, according to the linked article, oestrogen makes your muscles atrophy to nothing

There are rumblings in football of organising teams on a height basis rather than age due to the vast differences in the sizes of 12 y.o. boys, for example. It would make sense and we'd end up with better players overall. Manny Pacquiao was at one point known as the best pound for pound boxer on earth - but any of the crappy heavyweights we have now would have pulverised him, even at his peak..

sociopathsunited · 31/08/2018 22:54

I think Hannah has moved to handball. I think they've been banned from Aussie rules due to new rules on testosterone levels. Hannah broke an opponents leg during a game, apparently. I'm assuming accidentally, but still, the weight and strength differential surely caused concerns with a physical sport like this.

Yes. I have heard this. It is almost comical to see the height/weight/beard differences in 13 year old lads. I never want that bearded hulk running at my little boy

NotMeOhNo · 31/08/2018 22:57

This is very important to raise this week. A woman died of concussion after a collision during the SA women's AFL grand final. A freak accident, they called it. But would letting the likes of Hannah in reduce the rarity of such an occurrence?

RIP Maggie Varcoe. AFL is a savage game.

FermatsTheorem · 31/08/2018 23:01

Turph your link to Renee Richards is an interesting case. Richards transitioned in their 40s, and at the time fought incredibly hard to be allowed to play on the women's circuit. However, they later conceded that had they transitioned in, say, their late 20s, it would have been grossly unfair to the female players, as the latter wouldn't have been able to get anywhere near.

(I think Serena Williams once said she'd rank about 350th in the men's game.)

What is the current situation with Mouncey? I thought she hadn't been allowed to play in professional women's AFL, but was cleared to play in the amateur game (but had gone back to handball in the huff).

So the AFLw have changed their rules to say that max testosterone is 5 nmol/l so that rules out Mouncey. Mouncey has now returned to playing handball.

She may still take legal action against the AFL. Incidentally, Hannah describes herself as a mother.

Because Hannah argues that ladybrain gives you the same physical disadvantages a woman has when compared to men.

Hannah calls - - - self a lesbian so doesn't deserve a shred of respect.
