Brave and stunning Hannah Mouncey who has fought hard to be allowed to play in Australian women's football is adamant she has no physical advantages over her peers now she's started on HRT

*Stone

However, I do know a female rugby player who is 6ft 4, and even she doesn't weigh 16 stones.

And hasn't benefited from a lifetime of testosterone. Nor has the hearts, lungs, and reach of a man.

I mean, I don't even know we're saying it. It's patently obvious, to any bloody fool. It's so frustrating.

CheeseTheDay · 01/09/2018 14:37

Yes it is obvious, and you would think it would be obvious to everyone, but it isn't.

I was placed in 'Twitter jail' after making these same comments a few days ago. Someone retweeted me, and unbeknown to her, one of her work colleagues is very pro-trans, and also retweeted it with a kind of 'oh look another TERF' comment. Suddenly I was attacked by people, and I defended myself, and was reported to Twitter, and for some reason my comments don't meet Twitter's policies, and had to delete my tweets to be 'released'.

Meanwhile, I reported one of the accounts who attacked me, as they made antisemitic comments to me, and Twitter didn't place them in Twitter jail.

Bizarre. Thank goodness the AFL has had the sense at last (possibly after injuries caused to women by HM) to alter their parameters.

However of course the testosterone level is completely irrelevant, due to lifetime male body development and the fact that the normal testosterone level of women is so much lower than the upper limit sports organisations often allow trans people to fit under.

AFL is such a rough game - how can anyone not see that allowing HM to play was basically allowing males to beat up women on the pitch?!

PenelopeFlintstone · 02/09/2018 00:20

Just to mention that there are two main games played in Australia: AFL and NRL.
Some states play one and some states play the other (mostly).
NRL fans think that AFL is softer. Just sharing!

PenelopeFlintstone · 02/09/2018 07:38

Here's a pic of a typical player for each code. NRL in blue and AFL in red and black.
'Hannah' looks like an NRL body type, but actually wants to play against women in AFL where they're probably smaller build than in women's NRL.

AFL has more tall/wiry. You need to be able to run and jump high. Therefore Aboriginal and Sudanese men etc have been able to be successful.
NRL game style requires more bulk to succeed. The men are quite thick set. I don't think a transwoman would be allowed to compete in women's NRL without a major outcry. I assume. But who knows. Even when transwomen are outed as perverts or rapists people don't seem to blink an eye. Unthinking adulation is the name of the game.

NotMeOhNo · 02/09/2018 08:01

*should qualify my comment: AFL is a very rare fora where Aboriginal and Sudanese men have been able to enter... Probably not a relevant point... Anyway. The game is still disgustingly racist towards them.

The woman I mentioned up thread who died last week was an Aboriginal player.

PenelopeFlintstone · 02/09/2018 08:24

Who did you mention upthread? I can't see it.

PenelopeFlintstone · 02/09/2018 08:28

Did you mean 'transwomen' or just 'players'?

NotMeOhNo · 02/09/2018 09:52

Transwomen, ie Jess Bradley, and that person who challenged the metoo victim during the book signing.

Player died last week due to head clashing, Maggie Vercoe. Sth Aust women's grand final.

www.theguardian.com/sport/2018/sep/03/afls-trans-participation-policy-sets-a-dangerous-precedent-for-women

Hannah’s latest complaint in the Guardian (of course) complaining that the AFLW’s trans policy amounts to body shaming of young girls. You can read the actual policy here:

s.afl.com.au/staticfile/AFL%20Tenant/AFL/Files/Gender%20Diversity%20Policy.pdf

[It’s full of typos if you’re reading AFLW people]. Hannah writes:

I’ve already spoken to a number of friends of mine, all cis women, about this part of the policy, and to a person their responses have been the same. The first question is always: “why does a panel of men get to decide if a woman is too big or too heavy to play football?” The irony is we know full well that our society would never tolerate a panel of women deciding if a man’s body was too small to play football.

I’d be interested to know how Hannah has concluded that the deciding panel will be men as opposed to women. And clearly the policy is to decide if a biological male is too big or heavy to play football, not a woman. Hannah clearly doesn’t get irony: why does a biological male think they should just be allowed to play without any form of scrutiny? Turning it around to say “this will hurt women” is ironic in my view.

NotMeOhNo · 02/09/2018 22:46

Why isn't Hannah arguing for men's AFL to start including trans men? I'm sure there's a few out there. Surely the AFL has been transphobic for 150 years by segregating people by their sexed bodies not their personalities?
