"A young politician and transgender activist who is running for deputy leadership of the Green Party was fighting for her political life last night after it emerged that she had used her father as her election agent even though he faced charges of raping and torturing a 10-year-old girl."

She says victims, plural. Wonder if there is more to come.

TerfsUp · 26/08/2018 17:34

That was a classic self-serving non-apology. It was all "pitiful me. I want privacy. Feel sorry for me. I didn't know. Pitiful me."

OlennasWimple · 26/08/2018 17:37

At least SC has now stood down from any official role within the GP. Let's hope that the new leader(s) keep it that way

lowtide · 26/08/2018 17:40

I would like an enquiry as to how a major political party has allowed this to happen

IfIWasABirdIdFlyIn2ACeilingFan · 26/08/2018 17:43

This week, my father was sentenced to 22 years in prison for a series of serious sexual offences including rape and gross indecency.

Against a child Aimee!! You forgot that really important part. You also forgot the torture element. Why are you minimising his actions?

One things for certain. Aimee didn’t write that statement.

IfIWasABirdIdFlyIn2ACeilingFan · 26/08/2018 17:45

Me too lowtide also, enquiries from both the scouting group and gymnastics club that allowed DC to be involved with their members.

BeyondRadicalisationPortal · 26/08/2018 17:50

"One things for certain. Aimee didn’t write that statement."

Well, for the first time we can at least deduce that DC isn't the puppet master...!!

IfIWasABirdIdFlyIn2ACeilingFan · 26/08/2018 17:51

True!!

Iused2BanOptimist · 26/08/2018 17:54

The statement refers several times to survivors in the plural : survivors of my father’s abhorrent behavior including young women whose lives will be impacted forever
I think there is probably a lot more to come. There may well be a good legal reason for limited reporting.
Being a trusting sort I take the statement at face value and feel sorry for AC and siblings.

SirVixofVixHall · 26/08/2018 17:55

Weasley. No mention of children- “young woman” . The victim isn’t a young women you self serving tosser, this is a child.
Also note not knowing the “full details”. Clearly does not state not knowing about charges...
Very obvious reading that , that Aimee did know about the charges, chose to ignore or not believe them, and also chose not to tell the party. Too busy trying to silence women.
That is a shitty response.

SirVixofVixHall · 26/08/2018 17:57

Why is Aimee still in the party ?

Procrastinator1 · 26/08/2018 17:57

She's "on a break" from her green party roles but has stood down from the deputy leadership contest.
She didn't now about the "full details of his crimes until recently", so she knew something.

The Green Party need to sack her to have any credibility.

BeyondRadicalisationPortal · 26/08/2018 17:57

While Aimee has undoubtably minimised the age of the victim, I think the "young women" refers to their age now rather than at the time. The offence was in 2010, reported to police in 2015, and now convicted in 2018

SirVixofVixHall · 26/08/2018 17:58

Agree Procrastinator. That is a calculated phrase to give room for whatever A clearly did know.

BeyondRadicalisationPortal · 26/08/2018 17:59

And yes, reading the statement it is clear that Aimee did know about the charges, but probably assumed DC wasn't going to be found guilty.

TimeLady · 26/08/2018 18:02

Perhaps Aimee and Jess can spend some quality time out together, comparing notes of how it all went so horribly wrong.

Aimee really cannot now sit pontificating over prison reform issues for transitioning prisoners, as in this open letter from Dec 2015 when Aimee was the first signatory:

lgbtiq.greenparty.org.uk/news/2015/12/07/prisontransform/

We call upon the Ministry of Justice to:
...
house trans people in the estate of their acquired gender in the first instance, and only move them into the other estate on their request or after a thorough investigation concludes there is no other possible alternative

Not when their father is a convicted paedophile rapist who called himself Lucy.

SPOFS · 26/08/2018 18:05

The use of the plural suggests that there may be other cases in motion, hence the reporting restrictions. Fair enough, if that is the case.

IfIWasABirdIdFlyIn2ACeilingFan · 26/08/2018 18:10

The offences committed by my father took place in the attic of our family home. I did not go into the attic during my adult life it was considered ‘dad’s space’.

This comment is interesting. Aimee specifies that she didn’t go in the attic during their adult life. Sounds like she was allowed in “dad’s space” as a child. Worrying.

LadybirdsAreBirds · 26/08/2018 18:11

God it's so very very creepy and worrying. The Challenor family home is very small

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 26/08/2018 18:13

my thoughts are firmly with the survivors of my father’s abhorrent behavior including young women whose lives will be impacted forever

So more than one then? That wasn't reported...

IfIWasABirdIdFlyIn2ACeilingFan · 26/08/2018 18:17

Could the plural “women” mean the victims in the downloaded material?

whattimeislove · 26/08/2018 18:18

I didn't realise the attack was in 2010.

lowtide · 26/08/2018 18:20

@IfIWasABirdIdFlyIn2ACeilingFan
That’s what I thought.
But sadly if you logically think about it, not many predators go from nothing to rape and torture.
There is usually something in between

IfIWasABirdIdFlyIn2ACeilingFan · 26/08/2018 18:24

Oh totally agree. I don’t want to say too much as it could be triggering and insensitive to any victims. But yes. IMO there will be others.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 26/08/2018 18:26

It's good to see that Aimee took all the twitter feedback on the greens statement on board - Aimee's statement is much more appropriate I think.
