"A young politician and transgender activist who is running for deputy leadership of the Green Party was fighting for her political life last night after it emerged that she had used her father as her election agent even though he faced charges of raping and torturing a 10-year-old girl."

Well done, Andrew Gilligan.

The photograph at the top of the article is an interesting choice - look at the pamphlet held by the person on the left.

OrchidInTheSun · 26/08/2018 08:47

It is a blatant lie that Aimee did not know of the charges. The police would have searched the house top to bottom to have uncovered all the evidence they did. They will have removed every single electronic device. The exercise ( even in a two bedroom house) would have taken at least a day. And Aimee is very close to DC and mum.

Not to mention the social media trail. Aimee knew

RedToothBrush · 26/08/2018 08:48

Candidates’ election campaign leaflets are legally required to include the name of their agent or promoter. Challenor’s leaflets for both campaigns, seen by The Sunday Times, did not show her father’s correct name, instead giving it as “Baloo Challenor”.

Isn't this a breech of electoral law which Aimee IS responsible for. The purpose of naming the agent is so there is transparency and the agent can be traced. If you put a nickname on, how can this be done.

There ARE questions here.

I'm very much with Pywife here.

Also acceptance and reducing prejudice is about bringing people along with you. Unfortunately this whole situation really rather undermines that process by highlighting the very concerns that have been swept under the carpet.

Politics is suffering from a massive lack of trust atm. Thats down to lack of transparency and the inability of political parties to keep their house in order. Its attracting far too many people who aren't honest about their past or their vested interests. Again transparency.

Yet another political party, sweeping yet another political scandal under the carpet is the last thing politics needs. They need to be seen to take concerns seriously and to listen to what bothers the public about certain issues, and stop just taking the line of 'protecting their own'. Its about much bigger issues than individuals. Protecting individuals at the expense of political trust and transparency is potentially harmful to the most vulnerable.

The whole story is desparately sad. From every angle. But especially from the angle of the little girl - and issues surrounding here should be absolutely the most central.

Latinista · 26/08/2018 09:24

How is it that the Green Party hasn’t suspended this candidate at the very least? They surely can’t tolerate stories like this about prospective senior leaders of their party. It brings into question the judgement of both the individual and the organisation. Their political credibility will be severely damaged. Who is going to vote for them after this?

LangCleg · 26/08/2018 09:29

I knew I could rely on Andrew Gilligan to write properly about this.

AngryAttackKittens · 26/08/2018 09:29

Such a sad case - that he was involved in the scouts etc needs to be further investigated in case.

Indeed, most scrutiny is currently quite rightly focusing on the Green Party but the question of how a known animal abuser whose own children were temporarily taken into care made it through their screening process. I'm assuming they have one, though at this point maybe that's a bit optimistic.

AngryAttackKittens · 26/08/2018 09:30

The question should be asked, I mean, about the Scouts.

MnerXX · 26/08/2018 09:31

This won’t be an isolated incident. You would imagine there are more abuses out there. Those poor children

Juells · 26/08/2018 09:32

Aimee is also a victim in all this.

Yesterday I was feeling sorry for them. Then last night it suddenly occurred to me "They were a double act, Aimee and Baloo, working together to take down women's safeguards". It's not possible that in a two-up two down house they other occupants of the house wouldn't know what was going on. Add the FB post from 2015 about the police, and it's obvious they knew. If they questioned the mother about the contents of the attic, then they questioned the other occupants of the house.

Juells · 26/08/2018 09:34

I've just clicked on the article and see the significance of what a pp said re the leaflet the man on the left is holding.

AngryAttackKittens · 26/08/2018 09:35

Every time I read "Baloo" it gives me that chills on the back of the neck feeling. How was that alone not a red flag?

I feel very sorry for AC. They have been groomed from an early age, living in an extraordinarily toxic environment where the family is victimised by the outside world.

I hold the leadership of the GP entirely responsible. AC should never have been put in a position of trust and power.

littleducks · 26/08/2018 09:40

I think from some of the twitter and facebook screen shots that he was historically a scout leader but continued using the nickname Baloo after no longer being involved.

I think the scouts need to make a statement to if that is the case though, and if he was involved in scouting after the animal abuse charges and SS involvement then there needs a full investigation and changes. Will be contacting tomorrow (scouts.org.uk/media-centre/ if anyone else has concerns).

AngryAttackKittens · 26/08/2018 09:41

And again, why is a 20 year old even being considered for the position of deputy leader? I quite like Mhairi Black but if anyone suggested her for the equivalent position at the age she is now I'd think they'd lost their marbles. Someone that age isn't ready for the job, won't do it well, and is being set up to fail.

Cockapoomummy · 26/08/2018 09:41

You can’t make it stand on onus to disprove. That is ridiculous.

honestmushroom · 26/08/2018 09:41

This

The lack of understanding that the Greens and Labour have shown in thrusting some young members into the spotlight, and victimising adult women in their parties who have sounded a note of caution, shows up the sexism that still exists in politics today, 100 years after we got the vote.

AngryAttackKittens · 26/08/2018 09:42

Does anyone have a child currently in scouts? They'll probably take inquiries from those who do more seriously.

CaitlynsCat · 26/08/2018 09:45

David Challenor would appear to have exposure to very large numbers of children, for example in his role as volunteer for Coventry Parkrun, where he was part of a 'Dog & Bear' (Aimee also identifies/d as a 'dog') running duo.

Cockapoomummy · 26/08/2018 09:45

I reported physical abuse and sexualised actions of a scout leader to scouts in 2007. I’m still waiting for someone to get back to me. I wouldn’t hold your breath for a response from them.

AngryAttackKittens · 26/08/2018 09:47

where he was part of a 'Dog & Bear' (Aimee also identifies/d as a 'dog') running duo.

.......

Not sure what can be said about that that isn't banworthy.

CaitlynsCat · 26/08/2018 09:49

This is David Challenor's running club:

He is the 'Bear' (Baloo)

CaitlynsCat The tweet up thread you linked has been deleted... funny that.

CaitlynsCat · 26/08/2018 09:53

David Challenor also appears to have run a wheelchair basketball team for disabled children, called 'The Bears'
