"A young politician and transgender activist who is running for deputy leadership of the Green Party was fighting for her political life last night after it emerged that she had used her father as her election agent even though he faced charges of raping and torturing a 10-year-old girl."

The Guardian have finally reported this.

IfIWasABirdIdFlyIn2ACeilingFan · 27/08/2018 12:01

Living with a paedophile doesn't shape your outlook on life.

Is that a joke?

TerfsUp · 27/08/2018 12:06

Look at that creep that tells women that have been raped and abused, that he supports their time to heal, but then they have to get over their fear of ‘lady dick’, because men can be lesbians too

Ah, Rapey Riley.

TerfsUp · 27/08/2018 12:06

The Guardian have finally reported this.

Link, please?

NothingOnTellyAgain · 27/08/2018 12:09

The green party statement is very very weird

On my PC the text looks two different colours

"Aimee Challenor has today stepped aside in the Green Party leadership elections, following the conviction of her father, David Challenor, for abhorrent sexual crimes involving a minor which include him committing some of the gravest human rights violations that face women and girls across the world "

With this part "which include him committing some of the gravest human rights violations that face women and girls across the world"
in a slightly different colour.
That line also doesn't fit at all with the rest of the statement. It's a really really weird thing to write.
Why are they bringing in all the other womena and girls in teh whole world who are being abused when they should be focussing on this one girl?
The "human rights violations" things is really odd, these are better described as CRIMES.
It's like someone has come along later and said oh let's just stick this bit in here shall we to draw attention to some other issues.
When this one issue is what they should be focussing on .

Does it read really oddly to anyone else?

What are they playing at?

Cachailleacha · 27/08/2018 12:10

I definitely found a link to the animal cruelty conviction, specifically mentioning what the animals were....and it now seems to have gone. Is someone cleaning up the Challenor backstory?

Aimee Challenor, 20, named her father, David, as her agent when she ran for Parliament in last year’s General Election and in council elections in May.

Challoner Junior gained 146 votes (out of 2741) and saw a downturn of 5.5% of GP voters from the previous year.

I wonder how many votes the Greens will get in Coventry in 2019.

TerfsUp · 27/08/2018 12:12

Thank you, Carol.

TerfsUp · 27/08/2018 12:14

That was a pretty sympathetic article.

And Challoner Junior seems to have one expression: smugly patronising. On the other hand, if the shoe fits...

IfIWasABirdIdFlyIn2ACeilingFan · 27/08/2018 12:14

You’re right nothing, it does sound odd.

TerfsUp · 27/08/2018 12:15

What are they playing at?

The GP are trying to portray the rape and torture of a 10 year-old girl as a human rights violation.

Really, Greens. When you find yourself in a hole, stop digging.

PositivelyPERF · 27/08/2018 12:22

Ah, Rapey Riley. that’s the one.

IfIWasABirdIdFlyIn2ACeilingFan · 27/08/2018 12:23

after her father, who was previously her election agent, was jailed for abusing and raping a child.

David Challenor, 50, was jailed for 22 years last week after being convicted of torturing and raping a 10-year-old girl in the attic of the family home in Coventry.

This is the extent of the guardians coverage of the conviction. That’s it. Way to go guardian.

TimeLady · 27/08/2018 12:23

Thanks for the animal cruelty links,Cacha It's useful to have them referenced on here, and that doesn't look like a source that can be tampered with Wink

placemats · 27/08/2018 12:25

No it's not a joke.

A person whose father is a paedophile doesn't by dent become a paedophile.

The victim in this case will not become a paedophile. Most all the population of the world, all 7.8 billion have come into contact with a paedophile.

IfIWasABirdIdFlyIn2ACeilingFan · 27/08/2018 12:25

The GP are trying to portray the rape and torture of a 10 year-old girl as a human rights violation.

Yep. They’re thinking ahead. They’re going to use this.

IfIWasABirdIdFlyIn2ACeilingFan · 27/08/2018 12:26

A person whose father is a paedophile doesn't by dent become a paedophile

Hmm no-one said they do!! That’s not anything like what your sentence implied!

IfIWasABirdIdFlyIn2ACeilingFan · 27/08/2018 12:27

You seem confused about what you’re saying placemats

PositivelyPERF · 27/08/2018 12:34

That’s not what you first implied placemats. You may have meant it that way, but your sentence read as if there’s no impact on the child of a pervert. There always is an affect on the children, though most do not go on to abuse. However many females end up with abusive men. If you mean that the abuse that you suffer in childhood does not give you the right or excuse to become a child abuser, then I agree with that. There is NEVER an excuse for being an abuser or for turning a blind eye if you, as an adult, know your parent is abusing children.

sashh · 27/08/2018 13:01

Paedophile's are notoriously canny about their activities, picking children who will not disclose though sometimes they get it wrong, as in this case.

In Pennsylvania priests would give gold coloured crosses to children they abused so other priests new who they were.

PencilsInSpace · 27/08/2018 13:05

The slightly odd, different coloured text in the latest GP statement is a quote from last night's DM article:

Last night the Green Party said an investigation had been launched and it was 'urgently reviewing' its safeguarding policies after admitting they had no idea of the charges against Challenor when he worked as his daughter's agent.

A spokeswoman described Challenor's crimes as 'some of the gravest human rights violations that face women and girls across the world,' but it is understood Miss Challenor has not been sacked or suspended. Instead she volunteered to step down from her party roles.

SimonBridges · 27/08/2018 13:16

Living with a paedophile doesn't shape your outlook on life.

Of course it does. Your parents and their sensibilities will influence you. If your parents are knitting their own yoghurt and weaving lentils chances are you will have that sensibility too.
Even if your parents are dreadful people then it will influence you not to be of that mindset.

lowtide · 27/08/2018 13:28

We can’t really speculate. Aimee has clearly be brainwashed along with her mother. That comes across from her statement about trying to build bridges with him after being in care.
She needs a huge amount of help, and on reality should not have been given such a vocal and prominent part in the GP. Safeguarding issues should have been applied to her too.
It’s shows a total lack of judgement from the GP.
Maybe all parties should consider how much power is given to volunteers sitting round their kitchen tables

NothingOnTellyAgain · 27/08/2018 13:31

That DM article - quote from Aimee

"because of the impact my role has on my family and the survivors of my father’s criminal behaviour".

That directly implies further victims.

DC was as we've all seen, involved with gymnastics club, scouts, also various charities, parkrun, prominent upstanding member of society etc

Generally it would be very unusual for a criminal of this type to go from nothing to the extreme crimes he was convicted of.

Common sense says that there must be more victims.
Aimee seems to say that as well?
