Rather than linking to a campaign site, adding the stat “80-95% of TW retain their penises” would provide the context. Maybe #NoToSelf-ID for good measure...

arranfan · 10/08/2018 07:40

Tsk, SimonBridges I’ve not looked up Owl but I’m willing to bet that Owl is a middle class white person who was born with a penis and no real problems.

Such heresy. Kindly remember that being non-binary, trans, coughing up mouse detritus etc. that Owl's life is a million times more difficult than your own, according to Justine.

Starts eyeing up Underground escalator adverts despite having spent several decades never once defacing anything. Yes, this is what this state of affairs has encouraged.

Good thinking. So few people would go through to the website unless they were pulled in by figures like that.

Fabulous. Seeing as no one has linked to a pdf to print off on sticker paper I’m going to ask my (handy with IT art) ex to create on for me. When I have I’ll be happy to share it.

nauticant · 10/08/2018 08:15

The elegance and genius of the message is the universal truth of its message.

It is. Anyone who takes issue with the message can be invited to explain why it's not true. At that point, they'll either have to tell people that they have to reject reality, hide behind an incomprehensible explanation, or admit that although the message is true, it is very mean.

It reminds me of the #ManFriday campaign in the way it goes "look, this, in its basic form, is what self-ID means in reality". Once the public see it, they don't like it much.

Angela C. Wild’s response (posted by a PP) is the best thing I have read!

I totally understand the thinking behind that. And this is just gut based opinion, not "here's all my evidence" fact, but...

Just like the road to hell is paved with good intentions (which in itself plays a pretty big role in this specific social debate) so too is

The road to cutting off this simple, yet genius message from its place in history is paved with embellishments.

The little boy who called the Emperor naked needed no website or hashtag. Because he was telling the truth. The umebellished truth has the power to stick to the point, penetrate deeply (no pun intended), be memorable, resist any muddying of waters and cause unguarded, semi conscious agreement that bubbles up in the mind of even those who were quite enthusiastically complimenting the new robe just two minutes before.

I think the (real world) universally accepted truth captured by the design, in its current unaltered form, has the potential to become a global meme. In the hands and eyes of millions of "fed up with waffly bollocks and its associated silencing strategies" ordinary people from all persuasions, all walks of life, with very different priorities. So too it has the ability to allow an organic, non-corralled, non ring fenced conversation to evolve and blossom.

A conversation that allows more people to inform, and be informed of the many headed hydra that the TRA movement has become. And all the issues associated with their aims.

A conversation that no single campaign or group owns. So it cannot be fought or closed down in a well practised, targeted, efficient manner.

My gut tells me that if embellishments are added there will be a gusty sign of relief fro t'other side. Because they know what to do to beat down targeted campaigns or clearly defined groups of oppositional people.

And they know their strategies work best when things get fuzzy and "look over here, not over there, look over here! Bad bad people behind this! Nazis !" ,

A clear as a bell, unadorned and universally accepted statement of fact.... the vast majority people know is true on a head/heart/gut level, that is a much more scary beast and their "some women have penises" +associated post modern bollocks can't compete. And they know it.

They will want to redirect the conversation. We could inadvertently make that much easier for them via embellishment rather than wholehearted embracement of Your Emperor Is Naked.

I have never been as convinced that something so seemingly small and simple could topple a steaming, propped up, tower of bollocks .... if it's outstanding, unequivocal clarity is allowed to organically snowball into a monster sized weapon that Goliath has no useful defence against.

There is one more thing. Unadorned with links and hashtags it sends a very clear message to our New Lords And Masters, The SM giants. And all the organisations that have kowtowed to them for fear of losing popularity, or high rankings.

We don't need them, the real world is the new social media king.

The algorithm is dead, long live Real Life.

RaininSummer · 10/08/2018 08:37

Love this post. I think keeping it simple is powerful. It will get any puzzled people talking.

Ariclock · 10/08/2018 08:40

I'd buy some of these :) Whoever did this, well done!

I do agree with this post. The message is clear and universally acknowledged.
It would be a good idea to build on the sticker persons work and roll it out beyond London. It does not even have to be stickers. Just print it out and get it everywhere. Community notice boards will do.

winecigsandchoc · 10/08/2018 08:48

I'd like to get stickering too!!!! If anyone wants to PM me with info if/when they get sourced that would be fab. Been posting and tweeting about this for a while but recently name changed on here

LizzieSiddal · 10/08/2018 08:52

I vote for don't mess with the simplicity and clarity that is the absolute genius of the design and the Act of Resistence as it currently stands.

Hear hear.

I’m up for buying and distributing some of these stickers too.

Melamin · 10/08/2018 08:53

Whilst waiting for the sticker just print it out and use blutac or drawing pins the old fashioned way Grin

Melamin · 10/08/2018 08:54

OR crayons lol

bluescreen · 10/08/2018 08:56

Ooh, Streisand effect! I'd never have known about these stickers if Pink News hadn't drawn attention.

nauticant · 10/08/2018 08:59

It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single woman in possession of a penis, must be in want of validation.

iamawoman · 10/08/2018 09:02

I am up for doing some stickering

Sunflowersforever · 10/08/2018 09:06

I just don't understand how a man can have sex using his erect penis with whoever he wants as long as it's consensual blah blah and then turn around after and say with no irony that he's a woman.

I'm a woman. I have sex Smile. But I've never had an erection as that experience is wholly unique to a man because they have a penis.

Women don't have penises.

sexnotgender · 10/08/2018 09:09

I’d quite like a penis, just for a day or so, you know, just to see what it’s like.
I’d also quite like a tail, though trousers may be problematic Smile

Bowlofbabelfish · 10/08/2018 09:09

Visually it reminds me a bit of Chad (you know the little dude peeking over the wall with ‘Wot, no...?’ Written on it

AbsintheFriends · 10/08/2018 09:15

Also registering my interest in sticker purchase, should anyone be able to produce them. And agreeing wholeheartedly with Cesira's point about the simplicity of the message.

(I was feeling very angry and unsettled by the Channel 4 nonsense yesterday, and the Andy Burnham advisor fuckwittery the day before but this thread, the humour and sense on it, has cheered me up no end. Thanks all.)

Singlenotsingle · 10/08/2018 09:19

Women don't have penises - true. But just because a person doesn't have a penis it doesn't mean they're a woman, does it? (Or am I missing something here?)
