Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Vast Majority of Feminists & Trans

I was reading through Huda Elmi's, one of the JC9's blog today and her accompanying tweets. I can't link to it, as a new user.

She says in a tweet that the vast majority of feminists don't wish to exclude trans or erode their rights. Her implication is, I think that that the vast majority of feminists are cool with the impending GRA,

I'm going to be honest and say, I don't know the difference between a radical feminist and a common, all garden feminist. As far as I know, I am in the latter camp and don't see myself as being especially radical but I am not happy about the GRA.

Anyway the question I really want to ask is, is it true that the vast majority of feminists don't have concerns about the GRA? I am assuming, from her tweet that she means that if you aren't happy about the GRA, it then you must desire the erosion of trans rights? I was just wondering if there is any evidence that as a feminist, I am in the minority with my beliefs.

I made my own jaffa cakes last Christmas like Nigella would.

They were a bit 'meh' tbh.

RaininSummer · 05/08/2018 22:50

Carbs seem to make me hungrier.

Rufustheyawningreindeer

M & S are the next best ones. My brother did a Jaffa Cake-off at his work last year and they all voted M & S the best.

littlbrowndog · 05/08/2018 22:53

I made jaffa cakes using Paton & Byrne's recipe. They were nicer than shop bought ones but not so much nicer to be worth the effort of repeating.

On the other hand Paton & Byrne's "Tunnocks" tea cake recipe which I have adapted for "Tunnock's" snowballs are both a huge amount of effort but are spectacular.

SpartacusAutisticus Thank you for sharing that Jessica Eaton blog. I shall be doing a lot of sharing of that!

Perhaps the OP would find it helpful to consider that there is no such thing as 'feminism' it' s lazy short-hand for a complex range of 'feminisms.' There have always been a range of positions: liberal/socialist/Marxist/right-wing/equality/radical/Deleuzian and so on. Even within those categories there are nuanced positions. So to understand what is meant by the term 'feminism' in a specific context it is necessary to work out the ideological position of the person invoking the term or the editorial stance of the publication or the stance of the journalist/writer/social media user. There are plenty of books that explain the various forms.

I could just go for a Jaffa Cake, just got my tea sorted and waiting for the Jeanette Winterson doc on BBC1. BUT do have ice-cream, sprinkles and chocolate sauce not a bad substitute.

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 05/08/2018 22:58

vick

Plus actual packs of jaffa cakes have shrunk...only 10 in a pack now

What fucking use is that

There are 11 in m&s ones

Now that sounds interesting lass

LangCleg · 05/08/2018 23:01

Dog, Rufus - I feel betrayed. What about chocolate chip digestives? Do you think the pro-trans feminist massive would approve?

Dottierichardson · 05/08/2018 23:01

2 pkts for a quid in Sainsbury's.

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 05/08/2018 23:02

I used to like choc chip digestives...no mucky hands when i gave them to the children

PencilsInSpace · 05/08/2018 23:02

I wish there were more savoury snacks on these threads.

I've got walkers ready salted, pombears (woohoo!), pistachios or posh pork scratchings.

LangCleg · 05/08/2018 23:05

I can help out with savoury snacks! And get in a mention of my other food obsession while I'm about it! Did you know that Marmite do little portions of Marmite-flavoured cheese, like a Baby Bel? I am partial.

littlbrowndog · 05/08/2018 23:06
