This is how traffic to the feminism board has increased

You're going to love this.

Number of people entering the MN site via the Feminist Chat topic:
June 2016: 15,000
June 2018: 177,000

That's a TWELVE-FOLD increase.
And that's just people entering the MN site directly into femchat. Lots of people enter Mumsnet via other routes like active talk, and then navigate to the feminism boards next.

Overall site visits in June 2018 compared to June 2016 showed an increase from 17M to 26M, which is a very healthy increase of 53%. But the impressive twelvefold increase in visitors going directly to feminism shows a significant change in behaviour.

Keep talking, brilliant women of feminist chat.
People are taking notice.

Thanks to @MNHQ for responding to my request. And if others find this stuff interesting, join me in asking MNHQ to share more data like this with us.

(I'd like to know overall visits to femchat as a proportion of site traffic, and see if that has changed too)

Welcome holidays

MistOnTheWater · 10/07/2018 15:57

I lurk on here so much that when I open a new tab the top option is FWR

TransplantsArePlants · 10/07/2018 16:00

Oh I remember you requesting this info. Well done you; and thanks to MNHQ for supplying it.

I was not really a feminist until I found MN. And for years I did not come on to FWR - the Relationships topic was what opened my eyes.

TransplantsArePlants · 10/07/2018 16:02

And yes. It really irks me that people think the people talking about bras and prams and weaning and TV showsand BabyNames and parking can't possibly be the same people who are feminists

OlennasWimple · 10/07/2018 16:02

Good stuff all round

Thanks MNHQ for supplying the info

Dragoncake · 10/07/2018 16:03

Thanks for the reminder to remove my ad blocker for MN.

I also come straight here these days, but continue to read elsewhere.

Thank you MN for hosting discussion about feminism and women's rights. Seeing those figures erases any doubt that you are probably under enormous pressure to shut this down. Stay strong!

ballsballsballs · 10/07/2018 16:05

Wow, that's amazing.

TeiTetua · 10/07/2018 16:17

Well, yes. But speaking as one of the small minority (as we evidently are) who've been reading this board for several years, the influx of people has come with an overwhelming interest in trans issues. Given how that topic gets shut down almost everywhere else, it's good that it can be discussed here, and adding one subject doesn't automatically make others disappear. However, there are some people who used to be regulars here, who seem to have dropped outthough there was some turnover all along, of courseand I have to wonder if they just found that the shift in focus made the board less interesting.

I know, anyone who thinks that there isn't enough here besides trans issues ought to be starting new topics and contributing to the ones they like! I sometimes do, but I'm more of a listener than a talker.

Maryzsnewaccount · 10/07/2018 16:19

I just love "pHD = pretty huge dong" Grin

I mostly come to FWR these days. I'm turning into the proverbial bitter old man-hater in my old age, apparently.

I wish Grin

Now i'm old I understand why middle aged and older women become feminists.

(1) they are pissed off at being nice to people all the time; and

(2) they have time to be pissed off - having spent much of their lives working 24/7/365 in paid and unpaid work [cynical]

RedToothBrush · 10/07/2018 16:41

Just Keep Talking.

Delighted to see this.

Destinysdaughter · 10/07/2018 16:43

That’s really interesting barrack

For good and for bad, we are being watched. Because this stuff is important. No wonder fans of #nodebate want the place emptied out and washed down in bleach Grin

Maryzsnewaccount · 10/07/2018 16:52

GardenGeek Germaine Greer

Seriously though, I just never had time to see what was happening. But once you see it, it's everywhere. I'm trying to brainwash educate dd so she wakes up sooner.

NoSquirrels · 10/07/2018 16:52

Motherhood ‘radicalised’ me. So I find it entirely appropriate that Mumsnet should be driven by feminism and feminists.

Thanks for requesting the stats, and thanks MNHQ for providing them.

SentimentalGift · 10/07/2018 17:01

I have joined again after a break. I first joined MN in the noughties. I only wondered over here after years of feminists leaping on threads in AIBU or Chat and handing people their arse on a plate.

SittingAround1 · 10/07/2018 17:01

NoSquirrels Similar here, in fact it was giving birth that made me think
'fuck, women have suffered'

We do all that (pregnancy, birth, childcare) then we have to deal with all the extra shit of living in a man's world.

BettyDuMonde · 10/07/2018 17:03

I thought feminism was completely unnecessary until I was in the 3rd trimester of my 1st pregnancy. By the time we made it home post-partum I had completely changed my mind!

SentimentalGift · 10/07/2018 17:07

Now i'm old I understand why middle aged and older women become feminists.

(1) they are pissed off at being nice to people all the time;

I am feeling so liberated when I am fighting my socialsation.

My father taught me my whole life to be nice, it would involve him talking about his beloved late Mother and how nice she was. When I was a child I was given the same treatment as Serena Joy in the latest episode of a handmaids tale.

woman11017 · 10/07/2018 17:11

I thought feminism had disappeared, turned out it was gestating. Thanks @MN and the Feminist Board educators/agitators/organisers.

Waddlelikeapenguin · 10/07/2018 17:17

What a brilliant thing to ask about Barracker!

I only came here for the FWR board Grin I use a different hippy board for parenting stuff. i post on BF threads if I spot them & pop into HE when I remember otherwise it's random stuff from Active but 90% is FWR
