I started a thread, if anyone is up for logging

Pratchet · 04/07/2018 08:29

Wanderabout thanks. We need to log all of this. I'm going to get my stopwatch out.

Balance doesn't have to be in one segment.
There was of course none in this.

Pink News is partisan in this matter. There have been a number of propaganda pieces.

Benjamin Cohen framed women's concerns as misinformation and being anti-trans.

He reminded viewers that it was Pink News who hosted Theresa May.

Pink News and Stonewall's influence is clear.
In the last 48 hours BBC have given plenty of space to Paris Lees & Helen Belcher (Transmedia watch ) , and don't forget Mermaids too

I increasingly believe balance will be found over time, especially when questions are asked of the sources of power.

I watched this ...the only thing that surprised me was that he managed to spit out the word lesbians, and that we are "skeptical" . It would be good to inform him and Newsnight that we are a lot more than skeptical! Very unbalanced and completely biased reporting. Clear that the LBGT consultation results were being confused by and obscured the GRA consultation launch.

Angryresister · 04/07/2018 10:47

The same true of Woman's hour though at least feminists and lesbians objections were at least mentioned.

Pratchet · 04/07/2018 10:50

Rowan: yes, balance over time, so that reminding them when they are off whack means they have time to pick up and redress. I don't know what legal requirements Sky and ITV have for balance?

I think one can provide relevent information and identify the gaps in background knowledge research after all, they are all journalists involved.

If they have the additional information, this may will prompt further investigation and if they have the information and seem to ignore it, that's a whole different issue.

See Erishgil's post on current thread:
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/a3296433-BBC-Bias-Collecting-Examples-here?msgid=79159455#79159455

"I reported the Sunday Politics show for bias for PN editor being allowed free rein with no balance from GC people.

I got back a condescending letter.
We aim to achieve due impartiality over a period of time and across our coverage; it’s not the case that every interviewee must appear alongside a contributor with the opposite viewpoint."

I think there is something substantive here. Yesterday, for example, Woman's Hour called for emails and letters from listeners about sex and gender for a series that is being aired in the Autumn.

Thank you

"Lesbians, he says, are more sceptical"

Now, as a journalist in the LGBT+ sector, you would think that it might be of some minor interest as to why male homosexuals seem to be behaving slightly differently in this matter to female homosexuals? Might that not be worth thinking about for one teeny little moment? What is it about various calls for trans rights that means females might not be quite as happy as males over this matter?

Unless, of course, you have drank the wotsit so aren't allowed to think, even to yourself, of dividing the gay population by sex whilst at the same time retaining the same ole sexist bias against females that you possibly always had..........(by that I mean being silly women and liable to get hysterical and over-react over lots of things, or even, forsooth, be nasty feminists! I mean, they even objected to porn in the past, and how were gay men supposed to put up with that!).
