Insight has landed safely on Mars!!!

I may be a deadly pestilence but I can still admire science (ref. to Alex Sharpe likening GC feminists to bubonic plague on Woman's Hour for those who've missed today's discussions).

Dropping in for a winter warmer (maybe a dark red fruit juice heated with spices) and to share this medieval advent calendar from which I've learned that elephants give birth in water to avoid dragons:

ErrolTheDragon · 04/12/2018 13:51

OMG, the look on STB-mummy elephants face!ShockGrin

HumberElla · 04/12/2018 15:39

Poor Elly! She needs to give that dragon a good hose down. Love the medieval themed advent calendar.
I need some Vit C - tot of sloe gin perhaps?

In amidst all the general gloom, something to make you wonder if someone's slipped a little something into your hot fruit Winter Warmer:

Suzan Visser is a Dutch artist who also likes to put hats on her birds. The blurb says ‘Reality is transformed as if by magic into a new enchanted reality’ ok we can go with that.

Been quiet round here of late - dry January?!
Anyway, In view of the current flak a certain pub is getting for letting women talk about their points of view, I wondered if we should show some support to female friendly pubs this year?
Bluestocking twinning scheme?
Bluestocking on tour?
Bluestocking guest pub of the month?
If you’re travelling to Sheffield, or live nearby, can I suggest The Harlequin for starters.

silentcrow · 11/01/2019 11:49

@harlequinpub are also on Twitter and worth a follow - whoever runs the account has a good sense of humour.

HumberElla · 11/01/2019 12:02

Been having a giggle at their twitter myself, good to see them getting so much support!

ErrolTheDragon · 05/04/2019 12:40

I’m hearing reports that an alternative establishment, The Somerville Arms, might be opening it’s doors in Badley Fuckitt, so I thought I’d just come and wipe the dust down in here.

RepealTheGRA · 05/04/2019 13:20

Oooh I wondered where the pub had gone.

Harumphharagh · 05/04/2019 13:21

Is this a code name? I love Somerville!

wrathofVitriolKlop · 05/04/2019 13:40

Somerville Arms opening in Badley Fuckitt you say?

Excellent news, just in time for the weekend.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 05/04/2019 13:46

I feel a pub crawl may be in order

We did one in our village checking the quality of the chips (children) and lager (dh and i)

We had forms to fill in for the chips and everything

Datun · 05/04/2019 13:52

I think there's life life in the old girl yet.

Spasm is out back cleaning the pipes, the sausage rolls are arriving today and he's got the Izal Medicated on order.

We'll be shipshape in no time.

Izal medicated, only available in single rolls I believe.
You didnt buy it in giant bogoff packs.

Ahh the memories.
Imagine buying a roll now and putting it the family bathroom.

Datun · 05/04/2019 14:09

Smear-tastic 🤣

FermatsTheorem · 05/04/2019 15:15

Pulls up a chair.

Mine's a half of bitter shandy please (can't get pissed this early in the afternoon).

I like the Idea of being able to have a pub crawl in Bradley Fuckitt.

RepealTheGRA · 05/04/2019 15:17

Is it too early for vodka?

I’ll have cheesy chips while I’m waiting.

ErrolTheDragon · 05/04/2019 15:49

The Bluestocking operates simultaneously in all time zones, so it's always open and it's never too early for whatever you want.

It also does Brew of course, for those of us who prefer it. Smile

R0wantrees · 05/04/2019 16:41

Lovely to see women gathering for a drink.
Its been a while and do have a TFI Friday urge for a pint of cider and & deep breath out!

QuentinWinters · 05/04/2019 16:43

Yaaaaaaay! Hello all. Been a bit remiss with the pub recently. Good to see everyone.
How's things? What's up sarah?

ErrolTheDragon · 05/04/2019 16:50

I'm having an unscheduled break after accidentally listening to the R4 'last word' obituary program, which today featured Barbara Low - an eminent crystallographer

wiki

program link

I don't know if I just notice them more, but my perception is that there are more women crystallographers than in other similarly computational science fields - part of the legacy of Dorothy Hodgkin perhaps (definitely, in this instance - and I think may have influenced my PhD choice and subsequent related career too).

SchnitzelVonKrumm · 05/04/2019 16:55

Negroni please.
