And they say they cannot understand why we can't just be 'nice'

Seen a fair few TRA types moaning about the transrational hashtag. Despite it making total sense, for transsexuals to be separating themselves from the batshit crazy misogynistic hate that the TRAs spout. Yet, they say we spout hate Hmm

Toddler tantrums or what!
When my nephew was 2 he went through a phase of grabbing stuff and running away shouting ' MINE'.

Stumbled upon this tonight

Love it!

FermatsTheorem · 09/10/2018 20:43

That is wonderful, Rebel.

Popping in for an espresso, a few smiles, shared eye rolls at the news and then departing, braced for the day.

Leaving a batch of fresh, assorted baked goods on the counter for anyone who needs them. Buckwheat and quince rolls, cherry debris Bakewell slice :) and some All Bran cake for those who prefer a less frivolous start to their day.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 10/10/2018 09:47

The thread about Lilith Carroll has been removed from "in the News". Seems to be more often that threads are removed than not these days.

FloralBunting · 11/10/2018 00:09

I had a couple of days off posting, but the batshittery is reaching epic proportions, and it's difficult to sit on my hands all the time without causing cramp.

So I was trying to listen to some Erasure on YouTube and feel a bit brighter, and DP has now taken over and is playing his crap. So I've come into the pub for a large Southern Comfort and coke and plenty of twenty pences for the jukebox...

Ereshkigal · 11/10/2018 01:23

It's a shame that you weren't able to enjoy your Erasure.

I'm popping in for my breakfast before I slog off to work. Who is Lilith Carrol?

ErrolTheDragon · 11/10/2018 07:22

A TW upset at being searched by a security bloke at an airport, reported in the press (wearing the most delightful t-shirt)

RepealtheGRA · 11/10/2018 07:45

I somehow missed that one, just googled. The spelling of ‘Caoimhe’ makes my teeth itch.

arranfan · 11/10/2018 07:54

Something milder than an espresso today and I'll have it with a mushroom-filled pan roll, please.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 11/10/2018 08:08

Wearing this t-shirt. But of course it was all about Lilith's hurty-feelz - and hate speech against women is inconsequential.

ErrolTheDragon · 11/10/2018 08:18

Maybe best read that paper quietly with a few eye rolls over our coffee, don't want the pub to be at risk of a demolition order!

YetAnotherSpartacus · 11/10/2018 08:25

Yes sorry. I agree Errol. But the audacity of that t-shirt nearly put my blood-pressure through the roof.

Acorninspring · 11/10/2018 08:25

So I had a brilliant conversation with a friend about the consultation, it was very heartening, turns out she is also GC.

And then.....I woke up. Yes, my dreams are now filled with this too.

I think I need a nice cup of tea. On the plus side, I saw a fpfw leaflet in the station (not a dream this time!) So someone near me is GC......

DuggeesWoggle · 11/10/2018 08:53

Hang on so a TW was outraged at being searched by a man rather than a woman but the campaign for self ID would mean that a woman would have no right to complain about being searched by a man presenting as a woman? I didn't read the thread so I might be totally wrong but this is the gist I am picking up. Wrong? And what does 'T*erfs are Melts' mean Confused

FloralBunting · 11/10/2018 10:43

Melt is a fairly new insult. I think it's come from TOWIE/love island type programmes, probably a local dialect slang term that has gained currency.

I suppose you'd alternatively say 'idiot' or 'pillock' or something of that nature. Or you could run it through the translator and the t-shirt would say 'Women who say things I don't like are melts'. It doesn't make any more sense, but it's honest. You'd probably need bigger norks to fit it on, though.

DP is at work now, so I am definitely enjoying my Erasure this morning. I think I shall move on to Queen afterwards, too. Having a magnificently camp morning.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 11/10/2018 10:49

Someone on the deleted thread said it was an insult in Irish, but it still didn't make sense to me.

According to this page it is Dublin slang for 'Vagina'

www.irishslang.info/dublin/dublin/melt

So, terfs are cunts maybe?

This suggests idiots

www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=melt

The Love Island hypothesis suggests a crush (ew, I hope not)

www.collinsdictionary.com/word-lovers-blog/new/love-island-lingo-collins-guide-to-the-top-10-words-phrases,378,HCB.html

Maybe if we serve up some good Guinness an Irish poster might enlighten us?

FloralBunting · 11/10/2018 15:11

I was feeling really down and discouraged so I'm enjoying some Magdalen on YouTube. She's such a tonic.

silentcrow · 11/10/2018 16:48

I thought melt was quite old? Sure I recall "ya soft melt" being a Scouse insult thirty years ago. Implies "pathetic and stupid", usually aimed at silly younger men...Hmm

FermatsTheorem · 11/10/2018 16:56

I think "melt" is originally an Irish insult (I'm sure I remember it from Roddy Doyle's novels).

I do have a degree of sympathy with the trans individual here. It sounds as though the whole body search was handled extremely offensively by the security staff. There should be some way of dealing with this in a way that protects the dignity of the transperson being searched, and respects the boundaries of the security staff, and it's not like it's a new situation - surely it's something the managers of the security team should have anticipated happening.

But that t-shirt is just fucking offensive.

HumberElla · 11/10/2018 17:04

"Melt". Hmmm. Cheesy.
Sorry I'm probably missing the point. Is the bar open for snacks, I'm suddenly feeling peckish?
