can't see a thread on this...does anyone know WTF happened with the TopShop feminist book thing yesterday?

RepealtheGRA · 06/10/2018 10:47

I think the end result was that the book was a pile of shit but Philip Green was an even bigger one?

Thread here:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3385640-topshop-take-down-feminism-pop-up

There’s another one somewhere as well.

Womaningreen · 06/10/2018 11:20

thanks Repeal
I'm having ipad issues so I must have missed that!

arranfan · 06/10/2018 19:34

There's a couple of soups up for grabs if anyone needs to line their stomachs before the evening gets lively.

Some decent Brazilian cheese rolls (gluten-free) and the usual cheeseboard with accompaniments.

I'm popping in for a virgin cocktail before dinner - apologies if I've left the pinafore on.

Is there any live music later?

UpstartCrow · 06/10/2018 19:36

I need soup. I had the flu vaccine and I'm having a massive reaction.

VickyEadie · 06/10/2018 19:37

I had my first glass of wine in weeks (am off the carbs) earlier - it was lovely but made me extremely giddy.

RepealtheGRA · 06/10/2018 19:45

UpstartCrow Flowers me too and I wanted to go out leafleting tomorrow.

bluetitsaretits · 06/10/2018 19:49

I've got a spiced apple cake just out the oven -careful, it's still hot!
Raising a glass to Jonny, Glinner and everyone else that's in the firing line right now.
Wine
(Why isn't there a pint glass emoji? I'm a cider drinker!)

silentcrow · 06/10/2018 20:48

Flowers for those with the flu reaction. That cake sounds fabulous, blue, just right for crummy weather.

ErrolTheDragon · 06/10/2018 21:44

🍺 there is a beer emoji, but

(a) it's not an MN one - I really like the MN emoticons, I think they have a nicer feel than the standard designed-by-committee sort
(b) it's described as 'Beer Mug. A beer, as a golden-colored lager, in a frosty mug.'. Well, that sort of things ok if you're on holiday somewhere hot but I don't think it's quite what we want in a pub.
(c) it's not a proper dimply beer mug.

Perhaps we ought to ask MNHQ to ask Tech, wine and gin are good but sometimes a beer hits the spot.

🍻 cheers anyway.

Cuntysnark · 06/10/2018 21:47

I’m shite at alcohol but am prepared to take one for the team 🍷

RepealtheGRA · 06/10/2018 22:05

I’m liking the spiced apple cake. Is it too early in the year to have a mulled wine with that? I am going to my first xmas ‘do’ next week.

Cheers Wine

arranfan · 06/10/2018 22:07

Popping by for a post-prandial cardamom infusion.

Some of you seem to be caught up in flu jab lurgy so I won't suggest a rousing singalong with Paul Robeson:

You know the way characters in Ally McBeal had personal theme songs, I internally sing an even more rousing Robeson version of this to myself (can't find it online). :)

ErrolTheDragon · 06/10/2018 23:21

I am going to my first xmas ‘do’ next week.

I'm sorry but it has to be said - don't be ridiculous. Grin
Though my company did once have an Xmas party in February because it was cheaper, tbf.

bluetitsaretits · 06/10/2018 23:27

Blimey, we've not had Halloween yet! There's some odd characters trick or treating already though -that dream catching, crystal waving aura cleansing person on another thread can bugger off and wave their smudge stick somewhere else.
Need another pint.

RepealtheGRA · 07/10/2018 09:27

In my defence I don’t want to go. Grin but it’s a local thing and the kids insist we attend.

arranfan · 07/10/2018 13:15

I have picked up GI lurgy that DH brought in from, "There's a lot of it going about" workplace.

So, I'm not stopping by tho' I could do with the conviviality - Cross Infection from Contaminated Surfaces Is Real, Tell Your Friends and Selfish Presentee Workmates.

At home, I'll have some soothing infusions. I've dug up blackcurrant leaf and I can rustle up some ginger if anyone would like a taste (I'll leave it on the back step).

HerRoyalFattyness · 07/10/2018 13:25

I need vodka. Ive seen some shite lately. Confused

ErrolTheDragon · 07/10/2018 17:38

Thankshope you recover soon, arranfan.

I guess there are some advantages to virtual cake after all!

QuentinWinters · 07/10/2018 18:14

I've been at Cheltenham literature festival this weekend. May Beard was amazing and Susan Calman described herself as a radical lesbian feminist which I absolutely loved. She also said she was changing her stand up after watching Nanette, which I found very interesting. There was a thread on Nanette on here a while back but for those who missed it, it's well worth a watch.

arranfan · 07/10/2018 21:56

I'm planning a hot ginger. And a hot water bottle.

Just tottering in to say that I'm hacked off that Greater Manchester Police is firing such a warning shot in advance of the Filia conference there, 20-21 October.

Hope you're all snug in the pub's snug etc.

ErrolTheDragon · 08/10/2018 00:45

Does anyone else think that there should be a rule that no-one should be allowed to make their first post on FWR within an hour of midnight - in particular if some sort of text analytics could be used to determine their sex. Because such posters are almost invariably male and the threads always end up being deleted. Would save a lot of time.

Bedtime Brew, goodnight all.

arranfan · 08/10/2018 16:50

That would be a good rule!

Hitting the time of day when it's SM off, head down for uninterrupted work and surfacing later, possibly in need of a warm milk toddy equivalent and a spot of convivial conversation.

bluetitsaretits · 08/10/2018 23:54

Just popping in to sit in the corner wearing my tinfoil hat and gently rocking.

ErrolTheDragon · 09/10/2018 11:12

A quick coffee, while I put a poem which just came up on another (non FWR) thread on our chalkboard, if that's ok. There's probably other places which might like this.

DANGEROUS COATS
Someone clever once said
Women were not allowed pockets
In case they carried leaflets
To spread sedition
Which means unrest
To you & me
A grandiose word
For commonsense
Fairness
Kindness
Equality
So ladies, start sewing
Dangerous coats
Made of pockets & sedition

Sharon Owens.
