One planks of 'her' manifesto is shutting down the Vancouver Rape Relief Shelter because of its anti-trans policy.

I hope I'll remember this the next time someone tries to argue that self ID is working just fine in Canada.

One of the main things about the spa was that it is a nude spa. And they accepted post op trans identified males. Which transactivists and their brain dead allies decided to interpret as "they were telling them they had to have surgery to access the spa". As if they were expecting that people would have life changing surgery just so they could go to this particular spa.

Just as they didn't tell any other males who were barred to go off and have genital surgery and come back when done. They simply told them it wasn't for them.

Nothing would please me more than to see that Ogre in prison where he belongs.

The VRR situation is an important lesson in Herstory - and a very good 'answer' to the conciliation type of comments that we see here on threads with some regularity, as to why won't you be nice and give them an inch?

At the beginning, VRR were being 'inclusive', by taking on Nixon as a (transsexual) client (the victim of a male partner, and transsexual was the term used in the various court documents). Nixon was told that ANY client had to wait a minimum of a year before being accepted into volunteer/peer counsellor training. Nixon fronted up the next month, and was persistent. Nixon did apparently complete the training a year later.

But if I read into the documents correctly, I don't think transsexual exclusion was their initial reason (otherwise, would not have even been accepted into the BWSS training, let alone completed it). See page 6 here. There are some 'troubling' assumptions (sex/gender etc) by various parties in that document.. Perhaps VRR were trying to 'be nice' and find a way to exclude Nixon on (unsuitable) personality traits? That was my take on it. Because if that was VRR's real reason, it was a hunch proven true with the following 10 years of litigation.

The way I view this, was a bit of an 'own goal' for trans(sexuals/genders). In the beginning TS were very much accepted 'as women' (or at least, perhaps a 'type of woman'?), and were included, not just as clients, but as potential counsellors. But the litigiousness and lack of respect of women's boundaries crystalised VRR's position into 'born women only'.

I am not sure if VRR do still take on TS/TG clients, but they certainly were forced into drawing a line for counselling positions within the organisation.

Of course, individuals such as "The Ogre" have never stopped harassing the organisation to this day, including disrupting protesting fund raising events (like, what kind of people would 'protest' a charity's fund raising?)
