Guess how I got suspended from the Labour Party?

IAmDavidLewis · 22/05/2018 23:17

Well, one of the weirdest days in my life concluded with me receiving a letter informing me of my immediate suspension from the Labour Party. They believe I may have breached the rules by subverting the intention of All Women Shortlists, Women’s Officers or minimum quotas for women. Unfortunately, this does mean that my political ambitions are on hold for a while. I shall of course be continuing to self-identify as a woman every Wednesday, as that is my gender identity...

I have to say a huge thanks to @namechangeah for all her help, guidance and, more importantly, proof-reading! I wouldn’t have gotten to this point without it. I’d also like to thank everyone for their support today. I hope this has helped a bit.

And the Telegraph called me an “activist”! Achievement unlocked Grin

Flowers thankyou David and James for covering it. I and my daughters are grateful to you for sticking your head above the parapet to highlight the ridiculous policy of self ID

PurplePumpkinPiss · 23/05/2018 09:23

Thank you David!

mummyhaschangedhername · 23/05/2018 09:26

Thank you David.

Read the great article in the Spectator yesterday about you. High five! You are an awesome woman in a Wednesday. Maybe the Labour Party prefers women on Tuesdays? Grin

SuitedandBooted · 23/05/2018 09:27

I see some calls for a Petition on Twitter to have your "transphobic" suspension lifted......
In the current climate, I'm not sure which side of the debate they're on!

Flomper · 23/05/2018 09:28

Well i did think LM calling David "gender queee at most" was very transphobic!

sashh · 23/05/2018 09:29

Hi David,

thank you for your contributions.

May I suggest you tweet Lily Madigan and ask for advice?

ChickenMe · 23/05/2018 09:30

Thank you for doing this - I hope people will listen now

SugarButterFlour · 23/05/2018 09:31

Thank you David!

Cwenthryth · 23/05/2018 09:31

Suited that raised a smile. Well, it’s as transphobic as anything else that gets called transphobic as far as I can see.

I hope there are other men willing to step up and take the baton on this. Thankyou David for your activism.

senua · 23/05/2018 09:32

Well done David. I only heard about this this morning on the Today programme on Radio 4 when they were doing the newspaper & websites review. So we had the BBC quoting HuffPost and it came across (to my ears) as gender critical. Major achievement, well done!

offupop · 23/05/2018 09:32

It's on the Wright Stuff now

LlamaFarma · 23/05/2018 09:33

For those who are asking we identify as men on #manfriday have a look on Twitter/ google for info.

CADevine · 23/05/2018 09:35

Thanks so much for doing your bit David. Really appreciated.

LangCleg · 23/05/2018 09:35

Now with a suspension, the Party will presumably need to define what a “self-identified woman” is, in order to show that I am not one. That, I believe, is progress.

Exactly.

I hope you are having a blessed Wednesday basking in the warmth of the sisterhood, Sister David.

I see it's all over the media today.

Dear UKLabour - you're being laughed at by the general population. Do you understand that this is orders of magnitude more damaging than being detested by loyal Tory voters? I don't think you do.

AlisonCHaynes · 23/05/2018 09:35

Excellent! Friday it is!

Tutankhamum · 23/05/2018 09:36

This is being discussed on Channel 5's Wright Stuff NOW!

SarahAr · 23/05/2018 09:37

Nothing personal OP, but my hope is that after due process, you are expelled from the Labour Party. That would demonstrate that the Labour Party have robust policies around self-id. Presumably you would welcome this, as would trans people, allies and feminists.

Now with a suspension, the Party will presumably need to define what a “self-identified woman” is, in order to show that I am not one

No. They will just need to show that you were not sincere in your claim to have a female gender identity. Given the Spectator article and this thread, that won't be hard.

I am wondering, if legal self-id comes in, would you be willing to make a false statutory declaration and become legally female. My fellow MNers including at least one self-identified lawyer think nothing would happen to you. My money is on prison time, especially if you have previous.

We could also test another hypothesis. MNers believe you would be immediately transferred to the female estate, but I believe you would have to serve your time in the male estate.

Thank you for your current (and hopefully future) sacrifice(s) for trans rights!

Flomper · 23/05/2018 09:39

even Matthew Wright seems on board ...

ToeToToe · 23/05/2018 09:41

Who is the woman talking now? She's with us.

Flomper · 23/05/2018 09:44

Slightly amused that the gay guy doesnt see the issue because he really doesnt care about women.

Lowri Turner is the woman.

Pratchet · 23/05/2018 09:44

they will just need to show that you were not sincere in your claim to have a female gender identity. Given the Spectator article and this thread, that won't be hard.

However if he hadn't admitted it all over the media, it would be impossible lol. So much for self ID. No gatekeeping at all.

Poor Sarah. It's true what they say: men are afraid women will laugh at them.

ToeToToe · 23/05/2018 09:45

Matthew gets it.

Well done, David Lewis and your womanly-wednesdays Wink

Flomper · 23/05/2018 09:48

They've just done a poll on the Wright Stuff:

"How does the Labour Party ensure candidates applying for women-only posts are women?"

A With a doctor's certificate
B Using their passport
C By asking them if they identify as female

I am laughing to myself imagining Middle Englan spitying out their tea in outrahed disbelief in a minute when they realise the answer is C. Great stuff.

YogaDrone · 23/05/2018 09:48

DP is being a woman today. He (sorry "She") was very much impressed by you IamDavidLewis. She went to work this morning with her womanly laptop bag, dusty pink flowery Boden shirt, womanly timberland boots and a hint of raspberry blush lip salve (which she says she'll be reapplying on the train to London). I was so proud.

#WomanWednesday

But the best bit about your spectator interview for me personally is that I have finally managed to get through to my sister the insanity of the Labour party stance on self-id. She is one of those born-again millennial Labourites and it's been like bashing my head against a wall talking to her about this so this is a huge moment in familial relations Grin Thank you David Flowers ( womanly women love flowers)
