Guess how I got suspended from the Labour Party?

IAmDavidLewis · 22/05/2018 23:17

Well, one of the weirdest days in my life concluded with me receiving a letter informing me of my immediate suspension from the Labour Party. They believe I may have breached the rules by subverting the intention of All Women Shortlists, Women’s Officers or minimum quotas for women. Unfortunately, this does mean that my political ambitions are on hold for a while. I shall of course be continuing to self-identify as a woman every Wednesday, as that is my gender identity...

I have to say a huge thanks to @namechangeah for all her help, guidance and, more importantly, proof-reading! I wouldn’t have gotten to this point without it. I’d also like to thank everyone for their support today. I hope this has helped a bit.

And the Telegraph called me an “activist”! Achievement unlocked Grin

Thank you for doing this David.
It would be great to see the Labour party put the confusion to bed once and for all, I'm looking forward to them telling us what is needed to be defined as a woman in order to put yourself forward. Maybe it involves makeup, skirts, liking nail varnish? Perhaps you need to be defining as a woman on a set number of days. Oh dear, it's such a mystery!

Sillydoggy · 23/05/2018 08:55

Well done David, Thanks for taking a stand.

Mamagin · 23/05/2018 08:57

David, well done.
In solidarity on Wednesdays I will now self identify as a man.
Might be an idea if we all attempted to join the labour party as men? Well, those of us who normally self identify as women.
Papagin.

dianebrewster · 23/05/2018 08:58

Well done David, thank you.

RainbowSnowflake · 23/05/2018 08:59

Thank you David - you truly are an awesome sister (today - I wont mis-gender you by saying you are our sister tomorrow, obvs).

I think it is shocking and transphobic that the Labour Party wont acknowledge your lady-hood - are they trying to deny your very existence?

redshoeblueshoe · 23/05/2018 08:59

Thanks Sarah I would say that's shocking, but its not surprising.

AlisonCHaynes · 23/05/2018 09:00

I want to spend my Wednesdays self-identifying as a man. What should I do?

ErrolTheDragon · 23/05/2018 09:00

Hackmum - church school admissions do have a set of rules - if you follow them your kid gets a place regardless of your beliefs. You'll sometimes see threads on here complaining about the hypocrites taking the places of true believers. Like the LP, if you have criteria that can be abused, they will be.

The difference is the LP seems to be breaking its rule and not allowing David to self ID. I can't see what rationale they have other than that they're really applying a 'we know one when we see one' policy. Which makes a nonsense of self ID.

Whatever you like, but maybe a wee bit more assertively and less considerately?

ohfourfoxache · 23/05/2018 09:02

David, thank you. You’ve shown everyone just how ridiculous this situation is.

I can’t wait to find out what their explanation is Grin

PurpleCrowbar · 23/05/2018 09:02

Thank you David!

So the official Labour position is currently: 'Anyone can self id as a woman unless we think they're taking the piss'? But they don't seem very keen to define exactly what 'taking the piss' looks like, other than making LM cross?

Erm OK then.

ohdearwhatcanthematterbee · 23/05/2018 09:02

Well done David! It’s sad that —a man taking the pas— a gender fluid person like yourself is doing far more to protect women’s rights that people who believe they are a woman.

ohdearwhatcanthematterbee · 23/05/2018 09:03

Strike through and spelling fail! Blush

Theinconstantgardener · 23/05/2018 09:03

Thank you David. Good luck.

Pratchet · 23/05/2018 09:04

Thank you

BeyondPink · 23/05/2018 09:06

Brava david, you are one awesome woman (I checked - it's Wednesday Grin )

MediocreOne · 23/05/2018 09:06

Well done David. Can't wait to see what comes from this.

hackmum · 23/05/2018 09:07

Yes, you're right. I guess with the C of E schools, even if you admit to not being a Christian, they'd still let you in as long as you followed the rules.

I will enjoy watching to see how the Labour Party untangles this particular knot. They only know David is taking the mick because he's said he is. If someone else is taking the mick but doesn't admit it, then how will they know? They can't possibly, can they? They will have to take them at their own word. Idiots.

Flomper · 23/05/2018 09:08

Davina, I salute you

All the LOLS for this. The only difference between David and Lily Madigan, as far as I can see, is that David has publicly admitted he's taking the mick.

Sadly I dont think LM et al are taking the mick. I think they genuinely think they are doing important work for transkind, and sticking it to the Mumz who were so recently nagging them to do their homework and have a wash, like all over-earnest teenagers with no life experience before them.

TheUterati · 23/05/2018 09:09

@Joy - that's the one!

merrymouse · 23/05/2018 09:11

Have a great day being a woman David.

After work I have to take the car to the garage and then I might do some gardening. I'll be wearing jeans and a t-shirt. You?

Yes exactly.

seafoodeatit · 23/05/2018 09:19

I'm grateful to see you highlighting this issue David.

I do however feel that labour will just push this as fast under the carpet at they can, they are not interested in engagement with women, they are not interested in the implications or consequences. They just want this pushed through so they can continue virtue signalling and try to buy the votes of the 50 gengers generation.

Ereshkigal · 23/05/2018 09:20

They are so utterly contemptuous of women.

seafoodeatit · 23/05/2018 09:20
