LGBT+LD @ lgbtlb
Public statement by the LGBT+ Liberal Democrats executive regarding the resignation of our honorary president, Lord Paddick:
1/4
The LGBT+ Liberal Democrats executive has reluctantly accepted the resignation of Lord Paddick as our honorary president.
2/4
Lord Paddick previously tended his resignation, which we declined when he made certain undertakings about his meeting with a group set up to oppose transgender equality legislation.
3/4
We regret that those undertakings have not been honoured. Subsequently Lord Paddick tended his resignation again, which has been accepted.
4/4

Lord Paddick has form for resigning

www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/brian-lord-paddick-quits-over-tim-farron-gay-sex-comments-lib-dem-liberal-democrat-general-election-a7789816.html%3famp
Lord Paddick quits as Liberal Democrat Home Affairs spokespeson following furore over leader Tim Farron's views on gay sex
The former Lib Dem London Mayoral candidate said the decision had been made 'weeks ago.'

He quit as LD home affairs spokesperson as he was uncomfortable with Tim Farron's views on gay marriage. The resignation prompted Farron's ultimately. He is an important and influential figure in the party.

I'm not quite sure what's going on here or why. It sounds like the LGBT LD didn't want him to resign. It sounds like its connected to trans issues and Paddick's position. The timing is interesting.

I don't want to read too much into this. But its suggesting a split in opinion and approach. (I don't believe this shows that Paddick is pro-women's rights. I suspect he is more pro-due process, at least at this stage). And that its damaging to the executive as a whole.

When is the meeting with Paddick scheduled for? It could be very interesting now. Looks like Paddick really is sticking his neck out.

But yes sweary, here's to having higher expectations than "hurrah for not believing us to be fascistic violent cronelike hate merchants"

OvaHere · 26/04/2018 11:45

That hickey thread is quite a read

In which Lord Paddick is schooled as to how the word transphobia means both everything and nothing at all.

boatyardblues · 26/04/2018 11:52

I like that Paddick isn’t taking the accusations lying down and asking for examples. Good for you Brian. It’s a horrible slur that is slung around far too lightly.

LangCleg · 26/04/2018 11:58

Perhaps, if Brian comes out of this realising that the trans umbrella hosts wildly different populations, it will be a good thing? I notice that he is not seeking out young TIFs/transmen or young women who have desisted. It would be good if he did because these are more distinct populations.

TravellingFleet · 26/04/2018 12:03

Ive been a loyal LibDem voter and party member for years - don’t think I’ve ever voted anything else. And this year I can’t bring myself to vote for them over the behaviour of this small group of people and the way it’s been handled, and I feel sad.

Ereshkigal · 26/04/2018 12:13

Who is that self righteous misogynistic idiot, anyway?

AbsintheFriends · 26/04/2018 12:21

Thanks for the link to that Hickey thread. Blimey - what arrant nonsense, shouted in a tone of righteous indignation.

The claim that 'EVERY TRANS PERSON I KNOW' (his capitals) defines the purpose of WPUK as being to 'force trans people out of public life' is provably daft when several prominent trans women are members and speak at events.

It certainly is an effective showcase for the TRA lack of truth or logic.

Ereshkigal · 26/04/2018 12:26

And he's haranguing Paddick for retweeting Rose of Dawn, a trans person.

Anlaf · 26/04/2018 12:29

I hope he doesn't take this approach on the doorstep.

From a 10 second Google, hickey seems to be chums with the chair of LGBT+ Lib Dem group plus some of the members of that group (this is from his website).

What a fierce ally he is.

Popchyk · 26/04/2018 12:33

"And he's haranguing Paddick for retweeting Rose of Dawn, a trans person".

Rose is not the right sort of trans obviously.

Oh how cosy.

Anlaf · 26/04/2018 12:58

There is a smallish (I hope) coterie of young men who are desperate to banish "terfs" from the Lib dems. The LD's Radical Association voted 89% in No Confidence in their Chair who, in this powerfully liberal summary from our friend Hickey:

For those who haven't been following this, the chair in question turned out to be a TERF. This is what we think of TERFs in the Lib Dems.

mobile.twitter.com/HickeyWriter/status/971547308608368640

The chair (and I believe one other association committee member also forced out) was a woman, in case that's relevant.

Yambabe · 26/04/2018 13:01

Oh. I just got my first block, from Hickey. Do I get a badge too?

PinkSquash · 26/04/2018 13:02

Just wanting to add my support to Paddick, a lovely chap who I knew a long long time ago and have great respect for

Ereshkigal · 26/04/2018 14:21

Andrew Hickey probably is a slur, if some more reasonable person got called Andrew Hickey and others thought you were a woman-hating dogmatic ideologue spouting bile and sucking up to other woman-hating males.

LittleLebowski · 26/04/2018 15:14

Oh yes Andrew Hickey is like the trusty Alsation of the Lib Dem LGBT Twitter account. Every time there are too many pesky women asking sensible questions, he is released out of the gate to bark and write things in asterisks, usually literally. He's showing himself off in all his beardy glory in those exchanges (I've seen his photo). I really try to be nice, but he's a right tosser.

RedToothBrush · 26/04/2018 15:55

He does 'patrol' the LGBT LD account. And yes he attacks every one who disagrees including lesbians and other trans people who the LGBT LDs are supposed to represent.

How can they represent those people and their interests if they are bullied off to protect the clique?

The issue of women is another matter entirely.

If the sole purpose of their remit is decided by a small group which is not including people its supposed to, then the group becomes a vehicle in which power is being abused.

It concerns me how it will play out.

I know everyone is too emotionally involved and I know their is an overly sensitive and defensive protective barrier there but it doesn't justify lashing out at everyone.

You have to have patience and understand the need for other people to explore the idea and concept not tell them in a way they will read as aggressive that they 'need educating'. Its all about time and space.

They are reading malice where the intent is far from that.

Its a breakdown in communication.

The reality is though the LGBT LDs do not want to restore that as they think they can 'win' by not doing so.

Thing is, its not about 'winning' and 'losing'. Its about learning to understand others...

BreakWindandFire · 26/04/2018 16:36

I had a look at the LGBT Lib Dem executive committee. Of the 11 people, 10 are biological males (including 4 transwomen). The one biological woman defines as bi, so there is no lesbian representation at all.

Rufustheconstantreindeer · 26/04/2018 16:42

Oh hickey is a real charmer

Rose of Dawn made a good comment....lts of disagreement taking place but only a few people being literally violent

And by literally i mean the dictionary definition

Rufustheconstantreindeer · 26/04/2018 16:43

Lots..not its

For goodness sake

Rufustheconstantreindeer · 26/04/2018 16:45

Oh just seen erishigal comment re Rose

What did he say...ive decided i like her

CATTinahat · 26/04/2018 16:46

Four trans-identified males, only one woman? That says so much. No wonder women’s voices are being lost.

RosenbergW · 26/04/2018 16:51

I disagree this is about the lgbtlds accidentally reading malice and reacting to that.

The lgbt libdem executive committee includes Sarah Brown who "launched a public campaign to name the foul smelling drainage created by his surgically inverted penis (what he describes as “the smegma-like mixture of dead skin cells, gynaecological lube, stale urine (gives it its distinctive smell) and sweat that is sometimes present as a white residue on the end of a dilation stent when a post-operative trans woman withdraws the stent after dilating her neovagina.”) with the name of a prominent Lesbian Feminist anti-trafficking activist" (Julie Bindel).

Also, they "posted a series of ugly, misogynist, anti-gay and anti-feminist rants on his twitter account, the full details of which you can easily google, including statements that lesbian bodies are “off putting”, and “political lesbians must be sexually frustrated”, that he is a “better” lesbian than women because men “have longer fingers” (eww!), and telling lesbians to “suck my balls”. When the former Councilor failed to be re-elected this year (along with many others in the LibDem party) he claimed that “lesbian feminists” caused his political loss as well as a “nervous breakdown” by complaining about his grotesque and disgusting public comments. He violently warned that feminists might someday criticize a man “who has entirely the wrong kind of sense of humor failure”."

You can read more here, Brown even has their own tag:
gendertrender.wordpress.com/2014/06/21/breaking-news-lesbians-stage-protest-of-heterosexual-male-keynote-speaker-at-london-dyke-march-2014-threatened-with-arrest/

This is not hidden information, the Executive must be aware of Brown's history of misogyny and lesbophobia (they are actually in a relationship with another Executive member, Zoe O'Connell).

I don't think the lgbtld's are worth giving the benefit of the doubt on this given their acceptance of Sarah Brown as a member let alone the aggressive and slanderous content on the lgbtld twitter account aimed at women meeting to discuss our legal rights.

RosenbergW · 26/04/2018 16:52

Apparently Jennie Rigg the Chair is female but I think bi as well.

So still no lesbians.

RosenbergW · 26/04/2018 17:05

More on Sarah Brown, this time from the New Statesman:
"I do not accept the logic of certain trans activists that there is no debate – the argument made by the influential Liberal Democrat, and member of the Lib Dem LGBT+ equalities group Sarah Brown, who argues that trans women have more right to define the category “woman” than “cis women”, because women who are born women are necessarily “in a position of privilege over trans women”."

And
"On 15 February, Sarah Brown sent an hours-long barrage of tweets to Professor Mary Beard, berating her for signing the same Observer letter that I did"

I remember that, and it was indeed hours and hours long of insults and ranting.

www.newstatesman.com/politics/2015/02/when-i-was-raped-it-was-female-only-spaces-helped-me-recover

This isn't about Brown or the lgbtld's misunderstanding women. They are fundamentally opposed to women's rights to set our own boundaries or even have a chat about it.
