In The Times today:

He is uneasy about some aspects of the transgender rights debate.

‘If you have people who have no intention of changing sex but think it would be fun to go into the women’s changing room, we cannot ignore that.’

OP posts:

he believes that the drive to eradicate sex segregation is troubling because women and girls are to be protected (because of notions of property and propriety), and I believe it is troubling because women have the right to boundaries and privacy. Completely different worldviews.

I would like to see where he has claimed this.

SophoclesTheFox · 02/04/2018 14:06

Woah, aggressive much?

I assume, given his many public pronouncements that highlight his "old school" approach to gnder issues, like not changing nappies because that's women's work, that he holds those kinds of paternalistic views that many men of his political stripe do.

he's not a bloody feminist by any stretch of the imagination, is he??

Why do you think he finds this troubling, then? Where has he come to this conclusion from?

DullAndOld · 02/04/2018 14:07

who is being "aggressive"?

SophoclesTheFox JRM is an old school Tory, many here don't agree with Tory policies and that's fine. I don't agree with far left policies but now and again a far left politician says something I can and do agree with. Sometimes we have to put tribal politics aside for the greater good, this, I believe is one of those issues.

SophoclesTheFox · 02/04/2018 14:10

who is being "aggressive"?

Erm - you, DullandOld.

oh right, when did you discuss this with him then? You seem to know a lot about what he thinks..

Why don't you tell me where you think Rees Mogg's concern stems from, then? What's he getting at?

DNAnotGRA · 02/04/2018 14:11

Is there a share token link to the article please?

Dolphincrossing · 02/04/2018 14:11

Good on him

I’m a lone voice though. I like him.

AnnaMagnani · 02/04/2018 14:11

he says a lot of sensible things

I have also heard him on the radio explaining we could replace Spanish oranges post Brexit with growing them in Dorset which apparently has an excellent climate.

However he does say a lot of stuff that people think but don't want to say out loud. How it came to pass that there is no female penis is one of those things is a mystery.

SophoclesTheFox · 02/04/2018 14:12

I get what you're saying spontaneous.

I just loathe the man, and much as we might agree on this one topic, there's more divides us than brings us together, so I'm not signing up to his fan club yet. His politics bother me immensely (I myself am centre left, so not just knee-jerking on this).

Howyoualldoworkme · 02/04/2018 14:13

Maybe JRM has become aware of the concerns surrounding Girl Guides? He has a daughter of an appropriate age.

DullAndOld · 02/04/2018 14:14

Sophocles, if you think what I said was 'aggressive' then you must have led a really sheltered life. Grin.

Anyway your argument is so sloppy. One minute you are telling us what JRM thinks, then you cry because you think my rational response was 'aggressive', then you start burbling on about what you 'assume'.

sorry but it is people like you who give 'feminism' a bad name.

Connfusion · 02/04/2018 14:14

Just be careful. He is dangerous. I read he has recently had a meeting with Bannon? (scary man behind Trump).

SophoclesTheFox · 02/04/2018 14:16

Right you are then, dull. You're reading an awful lot into my posts that isn't there, so I'll go back to giving feminism a bad name and you can go back to doing...well, whatever it is you're doing here, which I can't make out.

As you were.

Thanksforthatamazingpost · 02/04/2018 14:17

"we could replace Spanish oranges post Brexit with growing them in Dorset"

I'm from Dorset. that's not sensible.

DullAndOld · 02/04/2018 14:18

" whatever it is you're doing here, which I can't make out. "

Agreeing with JRM? Pulling up people for grossly sloppy arguments?
As you were...

DullAndOld · 02/04/2018 14:20

...and Sophocles please don't try to patronise me, I haven't read anything into your posts other than what you wrote.

Dragongirl10 · 02/04/2018 14:20

Personally l think it is a rare thing that a MP has the courage to stand up and say what most women are concerned about...l am very please he has.

spontaneousgiventime · 02/04/2018 14:27

Dolphincrossing No you're not, I like him too. I don't agree with all his views but he is a 'straight from the hip' politician and I like that.

SophoclesTheFox · 02/04/2018 14:28

I'm not patronising you Confused

I've asked you to explain your point, and you don't seem to want to, so my last post was "let's agree to differ". I don't really care if you find my posts "sloppy". I find yours...baffling.

DullAndOld · 02/04/2018 14:29

'baffling'..'aggressive' really? YOu really have led a sheltered life haven't you? Grin

IdaDown · 02/04/2018 14:30

JRM is a Conservative Catholic (Vatican 1 all the way).

I’d like to hear his take on Self ID v full transition.

I’m not so sure he’d be pro either -but would like to be proved wrong.

SophoclesTheFox · 02/04/2018 14:31

What's your actual point, dull, other than just digging at me?

DullAndOld · 02/04/2018 14:31

as I said, first you started telling us what JRM thinks and how he came to his conclusions. then I asked when you had met him so that you could possibly know this, so you cried that I was 'aggressive' then you started going on about what you 'assume'.
Very sloppy arguing sorry.

ErrolTheDragon · 02/04/2018 14:34

Is there a share token link to the article please?

I would, if I knew which it was - I've not spotted anything by JRM today (not read the whole thing in detail)
