1. using the ladies loo to get changed, because why not. I mean he sometimes wears nail varnish so what woman on earth would object to having a poo or inserting a tampon with Eddie in the next cubical

2. shouting at some teenaged girls who objected to his presence. This is totes empowering and women could definitely use this tactic when we're shouted at by men in the street and it wouldn't end with us getting beaten up.

I actually find this a worrying development - I think a lot of people who would question the "gender trumps biology" stuff will stop and listen to Eddie Izzard...and then might be persuaded. I hope I'm wrong.

Probably what Labour needs is a root and branch reform of its structures, Izzard or no Izzard. The party tries to be democratic and that's a good thing, but the whole thing is so labyrinthine and archaic that the various warring factions use the opacity to obscure the endless behind-the-scenes battles for dominance.

OMOV, while having the laudable aim of increasing member participation and influence, has probably made things worse. You've now got opaque union integration, power plays within the official party worker hierarchies, the PLP and member lobbies all using different structures to gain influence.

It all desperately needs streamlining but no power base is going to be willing to give up any of its power to achieve that. So it'll just carry on before with strange petty fiefdoms that nobody seems to be able to much about.

At the moment my view is 1) I'm suspicious that this thread on the very day he snatches a seat on the NEC from one of Corbyn's bezzie mates may have rather more to do with that than to do with anything Izzard has ever done that may or may not be misogynistic.

People here have been discussing Izzard's shift from happily willing to admit that he's a man who wears dresses to "I have girl genetics" for quite a while. They've also been very critical of Corbyn. Not the droids you're looking for, mate.

Given that in another thread, the Lib Dem peer Brian Piddock was given plenty of hate just because he wanted to hear feminists' opinions on the self-ID debate, it's hardly surprising that Izzard got attacked.

That Brian Piddock thread really disillusioned me. So many posters complain that their voices are not being heard on this issue, then when a male politician comes along and says "I'm listening, what are your concerns?" he basically gets told to fuck off (not by all posters, thankfully).

Brian Paddick wants to talk to feminists, although the phrase he used was - 'I want lions, by which i mean feminists who deny the existence of transwomen'. So it's possible he wasn't approaching this with a completely open mind. But yes, good on him for actually wanting to talk.
