Eddie Flipping Izzard

excerpt from his autobiography in which Eddie recounts:

  1. using the ladies loo to get changed, because why not. I mean he sometimes wears nail varnish so what woman on earth would object to having a poo or inserting a tampon with Eddie in the next cubical

  2. shouting at some teenaged girls who objected to his presence. This is totes empowering and women could definitely use this tactic when we're shouted at by men in the street and it wouldn't end with us getting beaten up.

You go Eddie. You're a fucking inspiration.

Somewhat of an oversimplification, Camper - reread what I wrote. I'm reluctant to criticise him because I don't think there is sufficient evidence to criticise him.

As to what he's doing now, I'm cautiously pleased:

LanaorAna2 · 01/04/2018 21:18

Izzard's a grotesque now. However bien pensant you are, the way he looks these days will discredit him with most people in this country. I think that's refreshing, given he's a man.

incorrigiblyplural · 01/04/2018 21:18

As to which way he goes on TRAs v feminists, we'll have to see.

Maybe he'll see this thread, give him some food for thought.

Can always hope.

LangCleg · 01/04/2018 21:18

LangCleg - how dare you? Nowhere have I posted "girl-blaming posts"?
That is incredibly offensive.
I criticised 3 specific girls for chasing someone down the street and mocking their clothing.

You think three teenage girls who had the confidence to assert their boundaries, defend them, and trust their instincts when they found a grown man in their private space, are the ones at fault.

That's what I call girl-blaming. And, weirdly enough, I find it offensive. You can take offence if you like. You'll still be blaming teenagers for standing up to a grown man invading their space. And I'll still think it shameful for you to do that.

Personally, I hope those three girls are now women who are still asserting and defending their boundaries whenever some unwanted penis decides their consent doesn't matter. And if they are - good for them.

incorrigiblyplural · 01/04/2018 21:19

Lanaor - rather cruel, surely?

ReluctantCamper · 01/04/2018 21:19

yeah, god knows I hate corbyn incorrigiblyplural, so if Izzard can get some traction in the NEC I'll be pretty pleased.

Still think he's a twat though. 'I'm not a transvestite. I have some of the same genetics as women, so I'm transgender.'

Hmm

There's got to be a better choice out there.

OP posts:
incorrigiblyplural · 01/04/2018 21:20

LangCleg - whatever.

I think you're rude and don't really give a shit about your opinions.

If you won't to be listened to, don't post gratuitous insults.

Popchyk · 01/04/2018 21:21

It is not going to take much for the TRAs to turn on Izzard. They thrive on public floggings on Twitter and they always need new victims.

Izzard doesn't even have a female name. Which proves that he is a fake fucker in trans terms.

And he's only got one spot on the NEC of Labour (and that only because of the resignation of someone who was actually elected). So he's not exactly got unlimited power.

And he's busy with his actual career stuff, unlike most TRAs who can't muster a shift at Halfords between them.

incorrigiblyplural · 01/04/2018 21:23

Camper - agreed. But we have to take the people who stand.

A self-absorbed celebrity wouldn't be my first choice, but that's what we've got.

I was sad to see he'd moved on from his previous - a man who likes wearing make up' approach to 'I'm transgender now, guys!'

But up to him. In itself, it's his own business. Will have to see if/how it impacts on his approach to politics.

AnyFucker · 01/04/2018 21:25

I hope that too plural He will be under huge scrutiny now and I would like it if he did the right thing. Time will tell.

Lana thete was absolutely no need got that comment. It is possible to be critical of transgenderism without being a fucking piece of shit about appearance. It makes you no different than a hate criminal.

AnyFucker · 01/04/2018 21:27

Aggh. Phone typos.

LanaorAna2 · 01/04/2018 21:30

whatever you sayAF Grin

ReluctantCamper · 01/04/2018 21:32

I didn't understand LanaorAna2's post.

Is the implication that he's had work done and made himself look odd or is it about the make up? He looks OK to me.

Anyway, can I categorically say that any issues I have with Eddie Izzard are utterly unrelated to the way he looks!

OP posts:
ReluctantCamper · 01/04/2018 21:37

and I would agree with the PP up thread who said that the TRAs will turn on him. Some of these people are bonkers - they would like to be trained to carry out surgery on each other. Izzard will never be extreme enough for them.

OP posts:
MightyMike · 01/04/2018 21:41

Lana has a point. The masses will see Izzard as something other, because of the way he presents himself. It is politically incorrect to point out that his need to dress as his version of a woman in public will be a national joke by the silent majority and they will judge and then VOTE. It is still a fact that Joe Public will find him odd at the very least. You might find that wrong or disagree but it is what it is.
I know labour rules means he is now a member of the NEC but is he really the best person for the job?

ReluctantCamper · 01/04/2018 21:54

c'mon MightyMike, I hope you didn't just segue from 'he wears women's clothes' to 'he's not the best person for the job'.

Those 2 things are utterly unrelated.

OP posts:
ReluctantCamper · 01/04/2018 21:54

And I still don't know what's wrong with the way he looks!

OP posts:
Popchyk · 01/04/2018 22:09

He is only on the NEC of the Labour Party, a quite lowly position which all sorts of scrotes have held in the past.

Of course he's hoping to use this to increase his Labour profile and eventually try to progress within Labour, but I'd say that looks unlikely at the moment.

Neither Momentum nor the unions support him in Labour, and he is also caught in the cross-fire between women and the transgender lobby. Plus he wasn't actually elected properly; he was Fourth Choice Eddie. So the odds are very strongly stacked against him using this as a platform to progress.

But if he can steer his way out of this, it would demonstrate a very able politician.

auntycartmanslargertesticle · 01/04/2018 22:25

I don't believe the girls chased him around-its just a story and EI is a storyteller. I wish it were though. That girls felt confident enough to police our protected spaces.
Changing the subject, Izzard is promoting this loneliness is big problem that is killing people new project. Call me tinhat but I'm convinced behind this is a sinister agenda beyond the usual poor weak people needing help from us goodly rescuers. Not sure what it is -any ideas? It reminds me of the anti-bullying campaigns- at first I thought yes theres probably things you can do about it and we should do them. But over time it became obvious it was exaggerated and was producing hot house kids. I know people will queation this but I am interested if other people question making lonliness a political issue, At the very least we have better ways to spend the public purse.

TIMoPLOP · 01/04/2018 22:26

I was discussing Carry On Transing with colleagues the other day, and it was interesting how many hadn't a clue about proposed changes to the law, self-ID etc. One commented: "That's why I've always liked Eddie Izzard. He just says he's a man who likes to wear dresses and make-up, and good on him for doing as he likes..." Oh, his little face when I gave him an update. Eddie's not being particularly public about his new identity, is he? Maybe he thinks it might lose him some support.

Terfragette69 · 01/04/2018 22:47

TIMoPLOP

Carry on transing, 😂 I half expected a "ooher missus"....

Whinberry · 01/04/2018 22:54

He says he shares genes with women? Well of course he does but he also shares 70% of his genes with a daffodil. I don't get the point.

TIMoPLOP · 01/04/2018 22:58

Terfragette69 calling someone "missus" could land you in hot water for misgendering, don't you know?

ALittleAubergine · 01/04/2018 23:13

I liked him when he wasn't quite so preachy. Will be interesting how things turn out for him and if he can prove himself. I don't know much about his political opinions apart from his position on the eu ref.

Bitchywaitress · 02/04/2018 00:33

I've served him several times. He mostly gets his agent to speak for him. Doesn't really go in for conversation with little people. He did once say 'do you know who I am.'
