Many people still genuinely have no understanding of these proposals.

I reckoned if I stood in my High Street, stopped people and asked, -" Do you agree that Trans women are women, and should be able to Self Identify? , - I would get:

"Eh, Trans what , umm, eh what??
"Transwomen...um ... don't you mean lesbians?
" I heard that on the radio, - sounds very odd...
etc etc.

I really would be amazed if there were more than a handful of people who really understood the issues, and fully supported either side.

So close to 8k.... (bump!)

ilikebread · 24/03/2018 22:10

SuitedandBooted this is so true, most people I’ve spoken to about this just look at me with glazed eyes. It’s not mainstream yet...

CircleSquareCircleSquare · 24/03/2018 22:12

Just 7 to go before it gets to 8000 petition.parliament.uk/petitions/214118

BlackeyedSusan · 24/03/2018 23:01

6 other signatures in my constituency. It'd be great if there was some way to discuss this in person. I sometimes feel like this is something no one in my area understands.

thenightsky · 25/03/2018 10:52

Didn't Meghan Markle state she wanted to become involved in feminist issues/rights? Is she on twitter? (I'm not on twitter).

CircleSquareCircleSquare · 25/03/2018 10:55

Meghan Markle is about as likely to sign this or champion it as I am to lay Cadbury Mini Eggs.

YesItsADebate · 25/03/2018 12:01

😂

I did think of Meghan but she would be strongly advised by the people around her not to get involved.

Kyanite · 25/03/2018 12:13

That will be the feminist issues that we are allowed to be involved in...this is far too contraversial. She may even agree with it.

HawkeyeInConfusion · 25/03/2018 12:20

I agree that such a conversation is going to draw blank looks suitedandbooted. But when I mentioned it to my DM my concern was that a badly worded law could be exploited by individuals who aren't trans but see it as an opportunity. And that individuals who would do that are most likely to be men, and those adversely impacted are most likely to be women. She got that.

Silk29 · 25/03/2018 19:24

Glad to see the signature count has risen.

It's very true that the majority of people have no idea about this. I would've missed all the Man Friday coverage if it wasn't for Mumsnet. I think this is why the the places with the most signatures are some of the most gay-friendly- probably those with LGBT news on their radar.

Chocolatecake84 · 26/03/2018 13:13

I've been sharing the petition on Facebook and Twitter. twitter.com/LindaCooper90

First tweet about this was on 13th March and the rest were on the 20th and 21st. I'm still sharing it. If you follow me you can retweet.

CircleSquareCircleSquare · 26/03/2018 15:42

We are at 8200!
Anyone else fancy signing or sharing?

Bump 😊

SweetGrapes · 26/03/2018 16:52

Do you think leafletting would be an option? Or would that compromise the petition?

MsMcWoodle · 26/03/2018 17:03

I have thought about leafleting too. The problem we have is that so few people know what is going on. What do people think?

CircleSquareCircleSquare · 26/03/2018 17:56

I am going to put stickers in public loos and bus stops with a QR code pointing to the petition and also a link to fairplayforwomen.com so I think leaflets could work.

CircleSquareCircleSquare · 26/03/2018 17:57

I think vistaprint do 1000 A6 leaflets for about £20.

SweetGrapes · 26/03/2018 18:08

Brilliant! I didn't think of a QR code! That's perfect.

SunsetBeetch · 26/03/2018 18:15

Are you sure Graham Linwhan wouldn't be interested? He's been pretty steadfast in supporting women on this issue and not giving in to TRA bullying so far hasn't he?
