I am about to ID as a man

1000 replies

YesItsADebate · 23/02/2018 08:27

In 1.5 hours, I will be identifying as a gay man who does not conform with male gender stereotypes. I expect my local leisure facility to comply with the Swim England guidelines and agree that I am entitled to access the men-only swimming sessions, the male showers and toilets and to wear swimming trunks. I also expect them to re-educate any other man who objects to any of the above.

In other words, I have a meeting with the local swimming pool at 10 to see whether or not I’ll be resorting to topless swimming and public nudity tonight in an effort to prove my point that the Swim England guidelines are ridiculous Blush

Wish me luck!

Just adding to the general approval OP. Well done you.

Am wondering if all of us with less than Porn worthy breasts and bodies shouldn't actually be brave and show the world what real women do look like?
Can't help thinking "invisible" women suddenly in men only spaces would create enormous impact especially as they wouldn't fancy or fetish us. Heaven forbid seeing bodies over 30 with cellulite, hairy muffs, stretch marks and elongated dangly breasts.

Obvs not talking about me cos I is so smoking hot DJ would internally combust.

Chocolatecake84 · 23/02/2018 23:28

Great what you're doing OP. Behind you all the way.

I'm thinking this is exactly the type of action we need to be taking. I'd be up for a mass getting changed in the men's or a swim in the men's only pool in Hampstead Heath. Let's see how fast all this trans stuff disappears.

Belatedly supporting OP. I salute you sir! What you are doing is a stunt, but it shows up the underlying double standard in the guidannce

mamaryllis · 23/02/2018 23:38

littlevoice, I can supply plenty of cellulite, stretch marks, a never-tended lady garden and pendulous middle aged chestage. These would be available for changing room viewing only, as the idea of appearing unclad in the daily mirror as a poster girl is the stuff of nightmares.

littlevoiceofsanity · 23/02/2018 23:42

I hear you mama I hear you...

halulat · 24/02/2018 00:42

I'm just thinking of all those times I've queued for the ladies loo when the man's is empty...

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 24/02/2018 01:27

Toomanytolist - I'm actually appalled for your son that he's not allowed to wear a rashy. I can't see why wearing one is SUCH an issue, it should have been fine. I take it mankinis were out as well? One could have been made with wider straps, perhaps, to hold the breasts in better.
See, I'm all in favour of gender dysphoric people being who they feel they are, but I'm also very against the relaxing of the GRA rules to allow anyone to do what the OP is proposing. I'm very much in favour of her doing what she is doing here to highlight the preposterousness of the situation, and hopefully waking the male half of the world up to what it could mean if a bunch of hitherto-women suddenly decide they're men now.

I'd also like to see similar happen in the nursing profession, and in corporate arenas where men are still paid ~20% more. I'd LOVE for someone in that position to decide they're male now and go in and demand a 20% payrise!

I'm not in a position to do any of these things (not even in the UK) but I wish I was.

Natsku · 24/02/2018 07:12

Love the t-shirt! Really wish I could join in but I'm too far away but maybe next time I visit the UK I can do a bit of self-IDing

athingthateveryoneneeds · 24/02/2018 07:26

Where's the link to buy the t-shirt?!

RubyLennoxExists · 24/02/2018 07:58

Is one allowed to Self id as male on alternative days
Certainly. My employer's trans guidance says that people in transition can choose to be male or female from one day to the next, choose their toilet based on what they feel is right on the day, and have 2 ID cards - for their male and female sides.

dorade · 24/02/2018 08:11

OMFG I am crying! OP you are bloody brilliant. More power to your hairy elbow. I'm not in the UK but Hampstead here I come!

dorade · 24/02/2018 08:12

Ruby, that's insane. Is anyone taking advantage (literally) of it? Is it a big organisation?

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 24/02/2018 08:17

Dorade - I doubt this is Ruby's company but it is a big one www.fnlondon.com/articles/mistranslated-i-split-my-time-as-pippa-and-philip-20171002

Cross-posted with Thunb!

AstridWhite · 24/02/2018 08:27

Excellent. Good luck. I've seen man boobs on display that are bigger than some female boobs anyway so perhaps the rules on coverage and decency ought to be redefined to apply to cup size rather than sex or gender.

I've wondered for a while if the answer to all this is for us to self ID as men.

I almost posted the same thing myself on a thread the other day! If women everywhere started to identify en masse as something they are not (be it a sex, a race, a religious minority or a sexual orientation) and demanded that all steps were taken for us to be recognised as such in every area of work, health, public services etc, etc the whole system would very soon implode under the weight of itself.

RubyLennoxExists · 24/02/2018 08:35

Dorade I don't know, it's a very large organisation and I only read the guidance because of all the posts on here. I believe the document draws a lot on Stonewall guidance.

PhilODox · 24/02/2018 08:36

What we really need is female MPs to start self-IDing as men, and begin using Westminster's facilities for men.

Married3Children · 24/02/2018 08:48

hips that man is crazy.
Whilst I have no issue with him dressing up as a woman (why not after all?), it’s clear he has only been able to do that because he is a position of privilege (High up as a manager, very well known etc...).
I get the two photos on his card to come in the building (a lot of people are likely to not recognise him dressed as a woman for example)

But are we really saying that he can come as he pleases into the women toilets, women’s spaces etc????
That he can come one day dressed as a woman because he feels like it and go to a women only swimming session, women changing rooms etc.. and then just go back to the men when it suits him (eg big meeting a work when he needs to be seen as serious and worth listening to)

Talk about cherry picking!

BillStickersIsInnocent · 24/02/2018 08:50

Does he get paid less on the days he identifies as Pippa?

lovetheway · 24/02/2018 08:59

Does he get paid less on the days he identifies as Pippa?

Mwahahahaha GrinGrin . I hope they also ask him to make the drinks at all the meetings. And tell him to smile more.

littlevoiceofsanity · 24/02/2018 09:02

In my local town there are three toilets, each a single cubical with a door out onto the street but protected from the weather by a glass wall.

Nearly always a queue for the female one while the male toilet is unoccupied.

From now on I will always use whichever one is free (although the buggers have removed the seat of the male one. crafty sods)

dogendsaredogs · 24/02/2018 09:03

We coud declare as men and demand prostate tests on NHS.
