horrendous domestic abuse newspaper story

I don't think I've ever posted in this section before, but I saw this and felt the need. The story itself is horrible but actually what has shocked me even more is that I stumbled across it on facebook where there are about a thousand comments beneath the link and the vast majority of them are from people saying how hilarious it is. And most of the people laughing at it are women. Hmm I've got a good sense of humour, sometimes even a dark sense of humour, but no matter how black my humour, I just can't see anything even vaguely amusing about a woman being mutilated. Confused

It's a trashy rag of a newspaper, but my point isn't really about the reporting, more about the 'hilarious' comments on Facebook.

Omg that's awful. He needs to be thrown in jail.

Why are he police not putting more effort into chasing him? He's a dangerous sex attacker. This should be a priority for the police.

If anyone thinks this is funny they are sick misigynists.

WerewolfBarMitzvah · 27/03/2015 11:12

I'm failing to see any part of that story as funny. Wtf is wrong with people?

Reason 6723 as to why Facebook sucks.

that's horrific. I would immediately unfriend anyone who thought this was funny. Disgusting!

maplebaconchips · 27/03/2015 11:32

Some of the worse misogynists are women. I dunno why, its cool, they want male approval perhaps? That poor woman, it is absolutely horrific. Surely some kind doctor can help with reconstructive surgery?

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 27/03/2015 11:39

I haven't read the piece but is this the superglue story?

I am a mature student and this story was read out by one of the youngest, females students in one of my lectures earlier today with all the salacious details punctuated by her raucous laughter. I have no idea wtf she found so hilarious and frankly, it is depressing that she did. FWIW, no one else in the room laughed, the story (and her reaction) was met with horrified disgust.

treaclesoda · 27/03/2015 11:42

Yes, it's the superglue story Sad

OP posts:
DontdrinkandFacebook · 27/03/2015 11:42

What a dreadful piece of gutter journalism. Superglue can be dissolved with chemicals. Not pleasant admittedly, but 'never have sex again'? Hmm How do they square that with all the tens of millions of women who have been forced to undergo the most extreme sorts of FGM yet still manage to have sex and bear children (admittedly often with horrific side effects/consequences but still, they manage it…)

Anyway, back to your point, of course it's not remotely funny but I imagine there were plenty of 'hilarious' comments made by idiots (including some hardline feminist idiots) about the John and Lorena Bobbitt case, where she cut off her husband's penis while he slept because she suspected infidelity. Or the more recent case of a UK based gypsy man who has his penis cut off as punishment for messing with someone else's wife, and was then dumped by the side of the motorway, half bleeding to death.

Stupid sheep people will laugh at all sorts of things. I'm not sure this is confined to men laughing at women as a result of male privilege.

QueenBean · 27/03/2015 11:46

Disgusting

But not surprising - facebook comments on this kind of stuff really brings out the cretins of society

treaclesoda · 27/03/2015 11:47

It is gutter journalism, and it's a sensationalist 'newspaper' . I sort of wish I hadn't put a link to it in my first post, but at the same time, I thought it was hard to describe just how weird and grim I thought it was that people could read it and think it was funny, without referring back to what they had originally read.

OP posts:
Devora · 27/03/2015 11:50

That is so upsetting.

GibberingFlapdoodle · 27/03/2015 12:29

The Bobbitt case was not "because she suspected infidelities" but after years of abuse. I remember the case, just about. Unfortunately the coverage of the time is not on the internet. www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2616197/Lorena-Bobbitt-speaks-21-years-sliced-husbands-penis-reveals-incident-didnt-hurt-dating-life.html

GibberingFlapdoodle · 27/03/2015 12:31

And no, the reaction I remember at the time was not laughter. It was the self-righteous shock that a woman would dare to do such a thing. Most men were of the opinion that "I don't care what he did, you can't do that to a man", from my memory. We'd need to look up the hardcopies somewhere.

DontdrinkandFacebook · 27/03/2015 13:02

Oh ok, I stand corrected. It's not justifiable on any grounds though, is it?

GibberingFlapdoodle · 27/03/2015 13:08

Only answer to that is 'define justifable'. Well no, on a social level it isn't really. But I can understand it and women in that position have my every sympathy. Women in general take a lot more shit than men do before they turn to violence.

PuffinsAreFictitious · 27/03/2015 13:14

Got any quotes of "hard line feminist idiots" making "hilarious" comments about the gypsy in your post, don't? Only ones I can think might be made would be ones deploring male violence, same as for this poor woman in the OP. If not, why post it?

Anniegetyourgun · 27/03/2015 13:37

Iirc the Bobbitt story was originally reported as being revenge for his infidelity and I think it's what most people still remember; the abuse bit only came out later. But of course they laughed because, well, it was a penis innit? And penises are funny. But not as funny as vaginas, obviously.

(Interesting to note that my spell check is quite happy to pass "penises" but has a problem with "vaginas". Vaginae? Oh, it likes that - as you were :) )

YouBetterWerk · 27/03/2015 16:46

Disgusting.
One popped up on my Newsfeed the other day because one of my friends had liked it. It was from that god-awful 'Lad Bible' with the heading 'She just got pied' or some such witty title.
It was literally a man punching a custard pie so hard in the woman's face she fell back onto the floor with the sheer force of it, he put everything he had into it.
That page has over 9 Million Likes.

StillLostAtTheStation · 27/03/2015 20:11

The super glueing incident is a violent, sexually aggravated assault. I can't begin to understand how anyone can see it any other way.

BathtimeFunkster · 28/03/2015 10:40

Passing around a story about an abused woman being assaulted for the LOLs.

Hmm
lazocuter · 28/03/2015 23:45

Everytime there's a story about a woman doing something violent to her husband or bf because he cheated on her all the feminists roll around laughing.

Just imagine the reaction if a group of guys were to say "hell hath no fury than a man scorned!" and then post a link to that glue article?

PuffinsAreFictitious · 28/03/2015 23:52

Wrong

What's that expression "hell hath no fury than a woman scorned" is what all the feminists say with a big grin on their faces whenever the perp of domestic violence is female.

Wrong

You don't have much of a relationship with reality, do you?
