they really should take a look at banning posters proclaiming themselves MRAs?

Sexist,

often racist,

frequently rape/ domestic violence deniers

I know that mumsnet want to keep a lively discussion going and not ban free speech but when they join a forum mainly used by women it's hard to believe it's not about being goady and spewing propaganda.

The result is that normal posters get angry..
engage...

And then get deleted or banned for "personal attack".

Using a nasty word for someone who has by just stating that they are an MRA has basically said you don't matter as a human seems the normal response.

You can identify an MRA quite easily- because they spout the same MRA crap that is all over those websites they link to.

Treen44444 · 01/11/2013 14:03

You could find a website backing up most opinions given on here if you wanted to. It doesn't mean they have ever looked at that website or are member of it.
It's dangerous to assume. I imagine some views on an MRA website could be found on the blog of a fundamentalist Muslim. I'm not sure if the Muslim would identify themselves as a MRA.
Plus that blog would not define all Muslims. It would not speak for a whole group.

SabrinaMulFUCKERJjones · 01/11/2013 14:19

Oh hi treenie.

Why do you keep talking about religion?

Treen44444 · 01/11/2013 14:29

Hi Sabrina Smile,

Religion is an example we are all familiar with. We can see variations in voices with in that group. We can also see opinions that are held by the members of a religious group, whilst also being held by non-members of that group.

It can be hard to identify one group as having one voice and one mind set.
Again, you often hear people within a group call a section of it 'nutters'. An example,we all know, is football fans or a religion.

Treen44444 · 01/11/2013 14:33

It's hard to identify someone, unless they say they are a MRA.
Then you have to take in to account what the person identifying as an MRA perceives that to be.

SabrinaMulFUCKERJjones · 01/11/2013 14:41

Nonsensical as always, treen.

youretoastmildred · 01/11/2013 14:42

We don't have any of this whining about how you can recognise racists. You'll never get them all, but first off 1. ban Nick Griffin 2. look out for people saying racist shit.

Treen44444 · 01/11/2013 14:46

Which part. I can explain if you like?

SabrinaMulFUCKERJjones · 01/11/2013 14:47

There was a great line in some dodgy sitcom I was watching recently:

Him: "But I'm not a racist!"

Her: "Well, if you don't want to be called a racist...then don't say racist things."

Sums it up really.

SabrinaMulFUCKERJjones · 01/11/2013 14:48

No, don't trouble yourself treen.

Treen44444 · 01/11/2013 14:50

Great line. One of the all time greats

Treen44444 · 01/11/2013 15:03

I think everyone agrees that if you say something that breaches the guidelines then you will be deleted.

Banning someone for belonging to a particular group is wrong. They have to break the rules

APartridgeAmongThePigeons · 01/11/2013 15:06

Hey how about just linking to sites that call women lying whores? Or that says some women deserve to be run over or beaten up, or where the "leader" says he has no sympathy for rape victims and most of thm are liars anyway? Or are you ok with that Sigmund? Because that's what the guy in chat was doing.

Seriously what are your politics? I can happily state mine with no shame.

I think mras are lowest of the low

And I got deleted because you don't like being told you are talking bs and are report button happy.

Hth

Partridge, is there a spectrum of MRAs, like feminists?

APartridgeAmongThePigeons · 01/11/2013 15:14

SActually don't bother answering Sigmund, I'm bored of every thread being about you and I wouldn't expect a straight answer. I'll just stick you on my mental block list

Well I'm very relieved that you have taken the time to check out MRA sites very thoroughly Partridge. I would hate for you to come to any kneejerk opinions of MRAs based on very little knowledge at all, but that would never happen, I know. You seem far more considered than that.

The guy in chat (who never claimed to be an MRA, incidentally. Kind of tallies with 'not all trolls are male, not all people who disagree with feminism are MRAs), actually remained remarkably calm in the face of some of the most shamefully hideous sneering and hectoring I have possibly ever seen. Truly, it was quite shameful, and had I been a feminist, that would probably had been the point at which I decided to distance myself from the movement.

But anyway,

Paul Elam is possibly one of the most misrepresented people on the internet. Knowingly and unknowingly. So was Dworkin (apparently). Shit happens. That's pretty much all I have to say about that right now.

It doesn't surprise me that you find MRAs the lowest of the low. It takes understanding and rational thought to understand what the MRM are trying to say. It takes thinking outside of the box and open mindedness.

You got deleted for personally attacking me in a depressingly uninspired and cliched way (Twice. In my opinion it should have been three times. Well, actually, the whole time but, you know, I'm a reasonable woman).

Sorry you don't get your own way more often, but if I disagree I tend to feel I have the right to say it, despite your angry protestations that I shouldn't.

Poor old Paul Elam eh?

But then, I suppose, if he doesn't want to be represented as a hateful misogynist, he shouldn't say hateful, misogynistic things. Or set up hateful, misogynistic websites.

Treen44444 · 01/11/2013 15:36

Does anyone know if there is a spectrum of MRAs? Or is it very specific?

Grennie · 01/11/2013 15:43

I thought Sigmunde you openly say you are an MRA?

SigmundFraude · 01/11/2013 15:44

Yes I do.

Yes Kim, I know you have. I will post an answer at some point this evening, guides honour! I have to immerse myself into family life right now, I'm typing out stuff whilst clearing away Halloween tat.

APartridgeAmongThePigeons · 01/11/2013 15:58

I am sure there is a spectrum of shittness. But you have to ask is it necessary to have a "Men's Right's Movement"? And if you think there needs to be a movement you feel men are systematically being controlled through misandry.

It's like feeling the need for a "white power" movement to counteract the black power movement. I am sure some are just your "average" racist grandad types and some are violent klan types. I still don't want to be friends with any of them and I sure as hell don't want to have to listen to them whiiiiiine

Hmm my spell check doesn't recognize misandry. Even spell check knows it's bullshit.
