  3. Keep pushing myself to be financially independent

Oh, wow. Busy 2012! Best of luck with yours, I like them.

Purely because it is amusing, my first one will be exactly the same the one I posted on the S&B thread:

  1. I will stop telling myself I need to lose weight before buying any nice clothes, and will instead accept that I am a healthy weight for my height.
  2. I will get the Wifework stuff kicked. One way or another.
  3. I will stop putting myself down in public.
  4. Whenever I can cite a woman instead of a man, I will do so (ongoing project but I need reminding).

Great idea for a thread. Smile

ForkInTheForeheid · 04/01/2012 09:45

Oh, like this thread.

  1. (not strictly a feminist one) To get onto my MSc course that I've been aiming towards for the past couple of years.
  2. Better educate myself on the importance of feminism in order to:
  3. Challenge sexist (or any bigoted) attitudes when I hear them - I try to do this already but I realise that sometimes I don't have the information to back up my point.
Victorialucas · 04/01/2012 13:03

Great thread!

  1. Read the classics that I missed the first time around (second sex, female eunuch, sexual politics)
  2. Organise a feminist event
  3. Write a feminist research proposal and gather evidence.
  4. 'convert' one RL friend to feminism
  5. Donate DD's princess Xmas presents to a charity shop
  6. Start feminist Facebook and twitter accounts.
  7. Learn how to discuss feminism IRL without falling out with and alienating people ( this will defiantly be the most difficult)
kickassangel · 04/01/2012 13:59

Victoria let us know when you do number 6 as I would love to friend/follow you

I will also adopt resolution 7 from you

  1. try to use "she" and "her" as default pronouns where the person's sex isn't known
  2. read some feminist books (got germaine greer's the whole woman for christmas, need to add a different one to my birthday list!)
  3. try to be better at building myself up, am due to start looking for a "proper" job this year and really want to find something i enjoy and earn a decent wage doing!
Victorialucas · 05/01/2012 13:13

Are you kickassangel60?

kickassangel · 05/01/2012 13:27

blackcurrants · 05/01/2012 16:49

(1) I will continue to refer to genderless characters (wow toy drivers, animals in story books) as "She".
(2) I will finish my PhD
(3) I will get a job and start a pension

MMMarmite · 06/01/2012 16:46
  1. Stop judging women for not fitting patriarchal standards eg. not slim enough, not well dressed, too arrogant, not interested in having children.
  2. For every book written by a white person that I read, I'll read at least one written by a person of colour. Ditto for films.

  1. I will focus on my career and ambitions instead of just encouraging dh with his.
  2. I will make time to exercise.
  3. I will teach my children to leave my things alone so I can get dressed properly. None of these count as "me time" btw, they are just things I need to function well.
HedleyLamarr · 06/01/2012 21:51

  1. I will continue to promote the fact that treating everybody equally well is the way forward. That to discriminate for any reason is wrong.
  2. I will stress that their mother is a brilliant role model. She survived a really fucking nasty bastard and now has a lovely partner. Neither of which is me.
  3. I will continue to stress to them the value of thinking for themselves. My son told me that proper education doesn't start till you get to uni, as school doesn't teach you to think. He's right, and this is why I keep on telling them to question everything they're told.
  4. I will keep treating people how I wish to be treated: by being polite and friendly.
  5. I will have a smile on my face in public even if inside my heart is aching.
  6. I will post more as opposed to mainly lurking.

Sorry that none of these are feminist but what can you expect? Grin Wink

MMMarmite · 06/01/2012 22:56

They seem quite feminist to me Hedley :) I lurked for quite a while too. Look forward to seeing more posts from you.
