The departure of dittany

I only know that she has left, and in her post she didn't say much as to why, though some people can speculate and imagine why.

Quite a few days ago (last weekend I think) there were threads that pinpointed the lack of consideration that MNHQ has toward the sort of trolls that infest the FS section from time to time - different in nature and purpose to your average troll that infects MN from time to time.

It may well be that d. is in contact with regular posters whom she trusts. I don't know.

What I do know is that d. was a fabulous source of invigoration and illumination to a lot of posters, myself included, though we didn't always agree with her.

I would like a review from MNHQ of their current "talk guidlines" policy, in order that the FS is provided with a consideration that recognises the particular vulnerability that it experiences.

D. left for her own reasons - but this presents itself as a sort of 'test case' for MN to respond sensitively.

Would anyone agree and post here in support of this?

SAF, I have had an entire posting history in a different name deleted

it was some time ago now, I think they really discourage it though, it must be a pain in the arse for them to do

worth asking though ?

I like to see your old name. Smile

I agree with AF, definitely worth asking. Though it'd be a pity too - lots of good stuff. What they will do, which i forgot to say, is change all messages under that name so they appear as posted under another name. So, you could get all your old SwallowedAFly posts to appear as written by JohnDoe, if you so chose. Would that be any good?

I would vote for keeping dittany, who is a uniquely fabulous contributer, and dumping the trolls

Sorry, just thought I'd suggest. It's a real shame to lose good stuff you must have spent a lot of time thinking about and putting down in words, is all. But I can completely see why you want it to go now. Sad

You're not being paranoid at all. It was only a suggestion, not a criticism.

oh it was sassysusan? i thought by prolific you mean well-known/liked rather than a bonkers poster. at least i bloody hope she was bonkers, cos if that was all true...

i just do not think that hide posters will happen. saw justine on another thread about it a couple of days ago, she was pretty clear about it.

agree wholeheartedly with edam's post. what happens on the feminist board is imo exceptionally prickish and all about shutting down conversation. don't know what's to be done, though.

Pan · 17/09/2011 12:53

fwiw I think edam identified the particular prob. - from what I see in other sections trolls don't want to shut down or divert - usually quite the opposite. FS ones, as I see them, behave really differently - and MNHQ shouldn't just keep parroting the "report them" line, as if that solves any problem. The crystal clear evidence is that it doesn't, but HQ appear happy to ignore totally the evidence.

They all use proxy servers though, and IP hiders. Only the police can get legal permission to force these proxies to hand over the original IP, and short of terrorism or similar, that ain't gonna happen.

Pan · 17/09/2011 13:07

hello and goodbye D.

Although I believe I have feminist credentials supporting equality and being fiercely oposed to discrimination I do find the MN Feminist section rather strange. I keep away because I find I am constantly bullied if I make any reference to facts such as most women removing the hair from their legs. A girl can only take so much of being accused of watching too much porn. Dittany, I'm afraid was a rather touchy woman who had to be right at all costs, and very much of the "me,me,me" persuasion herself. No one else posted at such length and in such a dogmatic fashion. Perhaps if some more of this ilk left there would be less to attract trolls.
