Hello

Been saying for ages that it'd be nice to have an area for just saying hi, letting off some steam and sharing the little things that don't warrant a whole thread.

So, I'll start...

My brother made me :o:o:o last night when we were talking about some crap sexist song. And he said (in all honesty) - well this is just one of the millions of ways the patriarchy keeps itself going.

Also got the updated email from the Feminism in London conference this morning - can't wait.

Anyone else?

HerBeX, I'm the ageing lefty feminist!

In my teens & twenties (and later as it happens) I was out on marches, I was out doing helpful stuff, I was OUT DOING. I carried on doing through my thirties & forties but I'm unusual in that respect.

I will say this - when I was young we sought to learn from more experienced people. How intelligent to people think they sound, when they claim to know more than those who've gone in front of them?

The run-ins I've had with Dittany, by the way, weren't over 'issues of rape and abuse' so much as over Erin Pizzey. I supported Pizzey's work in practical terms. We didn't like each other much, but I could see the value of the work she was doing. She turned up in person on that thread (which wasn't specifically about the refuge movement) and Dittany was rude to her.

I don't need to be patronised about feminism - I am more than open to fresh ideas, different perspectives and new thinking; I ask where appropriate. But how many women do you think you (generically, not you in person) will get on board if you act like women don't understand their own circumstances?

There are probably a million typos in this. I never realised I was so angry/passionate/hungry Wink

Just seen yours above, SAF Grin & Wine

That's a tough one though isn't it.

I'm not sure I'm qualified to answer TBH, I post on here how I see things and from my own feelings and experiences, I haven't done much in the way of reading and am fairly new to all this, I only started with MN really.

I do think though that some women either can't or won't see what's in front of their noses - and when that happens the answer can't be "OK then it's not a problem" surely.
