Hello

Been saying for ages that it'd be nice to have an area for just saying hi, letting off some steam and sharing the little things that don't warrant a whole thread.

So, I'll start...

My brother made me :o:o:o last night when we were talking about some crap sexist song. And he said (in all honesty) - well this is just one of the millions of ways the patriarchy keeps itself going.

Also got the updated email from the Feminism in London conference this morning - can't wait.

Anyone else?

i am in south down. i have just found the one in belfast, going to have a good look at athat although i don't think logistically i could get to the meetings, having the dcs.

funny how you got that NI vibe? are we that famous for our opression of women Grin

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 28/09/2010 11:31

I think LFN have got their own thing going, and you could go along once and see what you think, or just set up your own group. Suspect either way is good.

think you mentioned it at some point, booyhoo :o That and the fame (is NI particularly bad then?)

small, i have yet to say in RL that i am a feminist.

Exp made refernce on occasion to my feminist views but always in a mocking way. i couldn't discuss it with him, the intellect wasn't there, harsh but true, he never would have got it. plus the fact that my views made him feel bad about his past visits to strip clubs and prostitutes so he was never going to agree was he? it would mean he was agreeing never to do it again which of course he wanted to do. lost a real gem there didn't i? Grin

anyway, i've gone off track.

but even with family etc, they would still take the piss if i openly said it.

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 28/09/2010 11:55

Still we rise eh swc?

It is hard, but there are more and more "enclaves" where feminism is acceptable I think. Soon they'll start to join together and hopefully the window thingy will shift to where saying "i'm a feminist" is about as controversial as saying "I don't hit old people"

"I don't want to" is perfectly good as a reason, and if people can accept that it's great. Next step - them not asking in the first place :)

swc - it's probably women doing that, but if it's married men, try replying addressing them as Mr Theirfirstname Wife'ssurname.

Because that won't wind them up at all :o

Cross out Dh's surname and write yours in on DH's name? :o That'll confuse them.

AIBU to find it funny that two of the most prolific feminism poster name themselves not only after their sons SHOCK Shock

But after the implication that their sons are like some of the least feminist males in fiction DOUBLE SHOCK Shock Shock

?

:o

the best 'mummy' name on MN is GrendelsMum.

I like a bit of irony.

I've got PaulMorelsMum stashed away too.

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 28/09/2010 16:28

Had to look that up SSM. Didn't read that as Women In Love was quite enough of a skeevy vomfest for me.

Is there a HeathcliffsMummy?
