story

would nearly every man be up for that? Surely this kind of thing isn't normal behaviour even for men!

This band are spectacularly stupid, didn't they intimidate people via text whilst fronting a bullying campaign?

AnyFucker · 20/08/2010 19:16

yes, PP, them's the ones

ISNT · 20/08/2010 19:24

The amazing part of this story is that they told a bouncer, and it was the bouncer who called the police. Bouncers must have changed a lot since my day! Maybe they are particularly hot on this sort of behaviour in Glasgow...

The chain of events - bouncer thought to call the police, police took it seriously, there was decision to prosecute, he was found guilty... It's brilliant! And so unusual that I can barely believe it.

I also love the way that he said it's disgusting racism that he's been convicted, then admits doing it Confused

Is it normal for men to do this? No. Is it normal within some groups of men? Yes. Is it sexual assault, yes, should it be prosecuted, yes. This is my absolute pet hate, the fact that young women have to put up with this sort of thing with (usually) no redress, and this story is so heartening.

I hope so, ditt

he picked the wrong time/place didn't he

the arrogant muppet

MrsChemist · 20/08/2010 19:31

I know of only one man who believes acting this way is acceptable and he is widely disliked by men and women in equal measure. In fact, a male friend of mine nearly punched him after he slapped a female friend's arse, in a manner which he clearly thought was "cheeky".

Agree with ISNT, that the fact that he has been prosecuted is very heartening. It sends out the message that this kind of carry on just isn't acceptable in modern society, and women shouldn't stand for it for a second.

PosieParker · 20/08/2010 19:53

It's not remotely normal is it? I mean I am one of my only friends to ever have had her arse pinched/touched, uninvited, and that was only once.

ISNT · 20/08/2010 20:15

I definitely have had a lot more incidents than that posie, it's the thing that made me think about men/women and think "snoffar" in the first place. I absolutely loath it.

My experineces lead me to believe that a significant minority of men do carry out this sort of behaviour - it's not normal, but it's frequent enough to make it a real problem IYSWIM.

ISNT · 20/08/2010 20:17

LOL as well at mrs chemist using "carry on" in the post - the exemplar for this sort of behaviour, and where sensible women learn young that the correct response to strange men touching you is to go "oooooh naughty" smilingly, and give a little wriggle.

sanfairyann · 20/08/2010 20:25

oooh I was going to post exactly this thread later on tonight. amazing isn't it? I'm sure it's the fact it was a students union pub that the police were called in the first place - well done that bouncer.
what a cock - glad he got convicted.

ameliameerkat · 20/08/2010 21:35

Like Sanfairyann I just came on to post this story and I'm not surprised that someone bet me to it.

I can't believe (a) what the guy did and (b) what he said afterwards! Such a dick.

I've had my arse pinched twice. The first time when a group of guys passed me when I was at a bus stop (and so I've clue which guy did it) and the second was at a drunken works party when a drunk guy I work with drunkenly pinched my arse. I slapped him. He hasn't attempted anything like it again.

Tulusa from NDubz was a BBC programme about young people caring for relatives with mental health issues and came across ok actually, but the guys seem like idiots.

notquitenormal · 20/08/2010 22:19

I get this quite a lot...last time was June. Once someone reached out and grabbed my boob as I was walking past.

I must look like some kind of public stress ball or something.

My typical response is to scream 'DO NOT FUCKING TOUCH ME AGAIN!' at them. They're often rather surprised, as if I should be grateful that they deamed be worthy or being grope. Assholes.

msrisotto · 20/08/2010 22:25

Once someone reached out and grabbed my boob as I was walking past.

I've had that!! In broad daylight as well, in front of loads of people! It's fucking awful isn't it.

MollysChambers · 20/08/2010 22:31

This guy is a complete twunt. His attitude is awful. Found his comments appalling. He is a long way from being representative of your average bloke IMO.

CatIsSleepy · 20/08/2010 22:39

refreshing that he was convicted

arrogant tosser

SharonGless · 20/08/2010 22:46

Dh is also appalled. It is not normal behaviour - certainly not within our circle of friends. however it is obviously normal behaviour in certain parts of society.
Arrogant "famous" arseholes obviously.

Very impressed that this was reported and taken seriously. Maybe there is hope after all.

I remember being a young 13yr old waitress in a golf club being groped by one of the members which was obviously acceptable behaviour. Dont think I ever told my parents as I was scared what my dad would have done if he found out. The offending male was well known with the other waitresses for this type of behaviour but he was never taken to task just laughed off as being a sex pest.

I didn't find it very funny.

weegiemum · 20/08/2010 22:56

Very glad to hear he was convicted.

Clearly the message is Do Not Mess With Weegie Women -

Lets hope this kind of precedent means it will become less acceptable.

Also - how did he not even notice there wasn't a jury - it was a Sherrif Court (like a magistrates court) - totally different!

SixtyFootDoll · 20/08/2010 22:57

I like the Sherrif of Glasgow, she rocks.

ameliameerkat · 20/08/2010 23:02

I just remembered another one! Whilst at a party in Japan there was much discussion amongst a couple of Japanese ladies (in Japanese) as to what bra size I wore (I wear a 34DD - HUGE by Japanese standards). Which I politely ignored/made non-commital noises too. Then one of the ladies just grabbed my boob! I quite sternly said in English AND Japanese "Don't do that!" Most bizarre.

Anyway, do we actually know what his sentence is yet?

Lynli · 20/08/2010 23:14

When I was working once a customer came in and asked for something from a high shelf, as I reached up for it he came behind me and grabbed both of my boobs.

I turned around and before I could speak his GF punched him in the face and broke his nose. Saved me a job

TheCrackFox · 20/08/2010 23:28

He was with his GF? Shock

I guy once grabbed my boob when I was in a gay club. Confused

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 21/08/2010 00:56

I have had this at a works party too, to be fair the man was usually nice and was so drunk he was also clinging to the bar to prevent himself from falling over. I still gave him an earful though, and sent him an email the next day to remind him and prompt his terrified apologies.

On a more serious note, a woman was sexually assaulted at Reclaim the Night last year. This has to stop.

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 21/08/2010 01:13

Cheers for the link TheCrackFox - very good article. Some hair-raising stories in the comments section though, I find it quite scary that every time there is a space for victims of harrassment and sexual assault to tell their stories there is an absolute flood of them. Maybe because no-one else is listening.

I did like the woman who was catcalled by a traffic warden and responded with "Who do you think you're talking to? Did I ask for your opinion? Get back to work!"

scottishmummy · 21/08/2010 01:22

nDubz fagan trial in glasgow.he came across a bitty deranged.hes a schleb who (erroneouly) assumed every lassie fair game.

read a piece quote along line of glasgow city of munters - He claimed that he had been touring all over Europe for years and would not have suddenly done something like this in Glasgow, which was "hardly a haven for models"...as if hey maaaaan lassies too ug for me to do that
