story

would nearly every man be up for that? Surely this kind of thing isn't normal behaviour even for men!

Good line from Popbitch this week -

What do you call a woman with two cunts?

N-Dubz.

scottishmummy · 21/08/2010 01:30

being n-dubz was compelling itchy viewing.fuckwits

Blackduck · 21/08/2010 08:11

words fail me - he got every sexist 'excuse'/statement in there didn't he...what a twat

ISNT · 21/08/2010 11:23

That reclaim the night article was a bit of an eye opener. I assumed that as reclaim the night is such a harmless, sensible protest, it would be peaceful. I didn't realise that men turned up to spit at the marchers and hurl abuse at them etc.

That has genuinely Confused me. Who can have an argument with "no to sexual violence"? Lots of people apparently... That is so depressing.

scottishmummy · 21/08/2010 11:27

some folk are rubberneckers and turn up jeer at any march.

misunderstand premise of march, like jeering, chance of bit of a ruck

ISNT · 21/08/2010 11:33

It's not like two teams of football supporters. "Chance of a bit of a ruck"? With who? With a bunch of women complaining about sexual violence? WTF is wrong with people? I am honestly Shock at that TBH.

scottishmummy · 21/08/2010 11:37

what are you indignant about?men jeering a womens march is provocative and likely to incite a reaction or put down, maybe some men are seeking that

ISNT · 21/08/2010 11:46

I was thinking of going this, I know it ends up at a club, I thought it would be friendly and good fun. I had no idea that people would turn out to spit, sexually assualt, and abuse the participants. Honestly it never crossed by mind.

That's why I'm reacting like this. I'm fucked off that honestly I don't think I'm up for that, and I really wanted to go.

As as aside, I just googled reclaim the night and ended up with a site called misandry.com. Bloody hell that was a depressing 5 mins.

scottishmummy · 21/08/2010 11:48

tbh,i have never seen any grief.went with work colleagues and it was a really fun thing. cannot hold back doing what you want just in case some raver turns up

So no abuse when you went? I just can't be arsed with that. Chuntering online is one thing but actually getting out there and having to have a fight is quite another

scottishmummy · 21/08/2010 12:20

i heard some wankers shout lezzies, but no trouble.seen more grief in waitrose food hall

sallyseton · 21/08/2010 12:41

This conviction makes me so happy. Men like this have to learn that this is assault and is unacceptable.

I am willing to bet my life that every single woman on this thread has had her bottom groped or has been the victim of low level misogynist violence and has had to shrug it off. It's a sick, sick world that regards this kind of behaviour as "normal".

good blog post on unwanted attention

Sakura · 21/08/2010 12:43

you shop at waitrose! Wink

ISNT · 21/08/2010 13:01

Looks in other direction and whistles...

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 21/08/2010 17:25

Hey ISNT, you shouldn't be put off by what happened to her. That is obviously a horrible thing, and there are some blokes being twats as you might expect (I got asked out by a bus driver - erm, I didn't actually come on the march to pull Hmm). But if you could see the women - passers-by - clapping and smiling, some men too, it would gladden your heart. Plus it makes you feel incredible to be standing in the midst of all these women who feel like you do, who are willing to get out in the street and say they've had enough.

It didn't end in a club last year, it ended in a kind of hall place (really nice though) and there was a bar and female DJs and stalls and lots of dancing and cake Grin.

ISNT · 22/08/2010 19:02

Are you going this year elephants?

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 23/08/2010 01:05

If at all possible ISNT! Few details here - 27th November for the London one. Can't remember if that's your local one or not, there are others in Edinburgh and er, Newquay, and other places. Are you thinking of going?

ISNT · 23/08/2010 08:37

Yes I'm London and have been toying with the idea of going...

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 23/08/2010 09:28

Come to think of it last year I was stewarding (they were short at the beginning and I was handed a high-vis!) so probably saw more of the crowd - good and bad - than the people in the heart of the march. So if you're feeling a bit nervous then just stay in the middle. It's a lot safer than walking on your own after all

There is a lot of chanting and shouting, but that's coming from us :)

Notyetamummy · 27/08/2010 21:14

When I was younger (12-18) I worked in a pub and regularly had my bum pinched.

Now, I don't think that I am friends with any men that would do this - as a separate point though I do have female friends that would pinch a male strangers bum though.

The worst thing I've heard though was when a group of doctors, myself and a fellow medical student were looking at the X-ray of a 22 year old woman who had tragically died suddenly in a car accident. The other male medical student (who knew she'd just died) said "She's well endowed!" I was really cross but too chicken to say anything in front of all the doctors. Everyone knows he's a sexist idiot.

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 27/08/2010 22:54

FFS, what a twat. Angry

That is unbelievable

BlackBess · 29/08/2010 14:35

I brought charges against a random man who groped me on the street 10yrs ago. When I was at court the lawyer explained to me that he'd be put on the sex offenders register. I felt really really bad about this as he was young(ish) 23(ish). I didnt want to ruin his life. My guilt dissapated when he stood up in the witness box started waving the koran above his head and yelling about British women showing flesh and asking to be raped.

I didnt even flinch when they sentenced him.
