Embarrassing problem- stinky crotch in the morning

GinFizz3489 · 31/01/2024 20:16

I have quite an embarrassing problem which I don't feel I can speak to any of my friends about.

When I go to bed I just wear pyjama bottoms with no underwear however, every morning when I wake up the crotch of my pyjamas smell a bit funky. It doesn't seem to matter if I shower before bed or not, I still get this smell.

I don't have any infections and no unusual odours during the day it onto seems to happen at night.

I can't describe the smell apart from just unclean and a bit sweaty maybe? - not fishy or musty, no smell of urine or no yeasty smell you would associate with BV or thrush.

Does anyone else experience this? It means I'm having to change my pyjama bottoms every night as I couldn't possibly wear them again because they smell. It's almost like I need to wear a panty liner to bed but surely it's better to get some air to the area.

Fannys arent supposed to smell like flowers, are you sure it's not just normal? Do you wash before bed or in the morning?

tempnameforadvice · 31/01/2024 20:18

Also - air to the area is fine but essentially your bits are going to be rubbing up against your pyjamas. Changing pants every day is better, I'd say.

Danfromdownunder · 31/01/2024 20:18

Wear cotton undies to bed instead? Do you shower before hopping in at night?

YouAndMeAndThem · 31/01/2024 20:19

I would imagine it's just sweat? Are you nearing menopause age? Things change around then! Wear pants to bed.

Bigearringsbigsmile · 31/01/2024 20:20

It smells like sweat because it sweats.
Just sleep naked and shower in the morning instead of before bed

User373433 · 31/01/2024 20:21

I get this if I wear fleece pyjama bottoms or lightweight ones that are shiny and no natural fibres. I think it's just a lack of breathability. I'm fine in cotton or cotton mix ones.

GinFizz3489 · 31/01/2024 20:22

@tempnameforadvice

I don't know- I don't think it's normal as to me it smells quite strongly. I know some odour is the norm but surely not to the point you need new pyjamas every night.

@Danfromdownunder I usually shower in the morning but even if I do shower at night (if I've been active or feel a bit meh) it doesn't seem to make it any less smelly

@YouAndMeAndThem

No I'm mid 30s so not nearing menopause (I hope) !

@User373433 yeah I maybe have to look at the material and see if it's worse with less breathable fabrics.

The only way it seems to be slightly better is when I wear hubbies jammies which we looser around the crotch

Just sleep naked!! Let the poor thing breathe.

Mairzydotes · 31/01/2024 20:26

That sometimes happens to me. Like as if I manage to give myself a wedgie when I'm asleep.

EarringsandLipstick · 31/01/2024 20:26

YesThatsATurdOnTheRug · 31/01/2024 20:25

Just sleep naked!! Let the poor thing breathe.

You do not need to let the 'poor thing' breathe. Utter myth.

GinFizz3489 · 31/01/2024 20:27

@YesThatsATurdOnTheRug

I can't sleep naked 😅 just never been my thing. Plus I have a small child who ends up in my bed most nights so not ideal for freedom of the bits

Wear underwear to bed

PiggieWig · 31/01/2024 20:27

Nightie and naked underneath, or get some baggier bottoms if it’s better with hubby’s PJs.

GinFizz3489 · 31/01/2024 20:27

@Mairzydotes yes! This! It's like my pyjamas have been too close to my crotch all night

OP posts:
EarringsandLipstick · 31/01/2024 20:28

OP, either wear pants or change your PJs nightly.

Clearly you're sweating a bit at night (normal) and if you do it change nightwear the smell is building up.

If you have no issue during the day, it's clearly fine.

(If you were older I'd also say possible peri issue).

GinFizz3489 · 31/01/2024 20:27

@Mairzydotes yes! This! It's like my pyjamas have been too close to my crotch all night

Which they have!
How are you confused about this? Just wear pants if it's an issue.

gamerchick · 31/01/2024 20:29

It's normal. Do you expect your knickers to smell fresh after 7 hours on?

RowanMayfair · 31/01/2024 20:30

So...change your pyjamas daily? It's not a conundrum really. They've been all up in your crotch with no barrier all night so of course they will get a bit funky. Just put them in the wash and have a shower :/

CoQ10 · 31/01/2024 20:30

If the smell is not normal to you, i.e., you've noticed a change, then get it checked out.

Any change needs a check.

Buggysleeper · 31/01/2024 20:31

Could you have Bv?

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 31/01/2024 20:33

What a dilemma.

It's like my pyjamas have been too close to my crotch all night

Well, where else would your pyjamas be?

itsmylifeitsnowor · 31/01/2024 20:33

If you don't wear pants why wouldn't you want to change your pj bottoms every day anyway if it's touching you?

You wear clean pants daily so why not clean bottoms?

Just wear pants.
