Embarrassing problem- stinky crotch in the morning

I have quite an embarrassing problem which I don't feel I can speak to any of my friends about.

When I go to bed I just wear pyjama bottoms with no underwear however, every morning when I wake up the crotch of my pyjamas smell a bit funky. It doesn't seem to matter if I shower before bed or not, I still get this smell.

I don't have any infections and no unusual odours during the day it onto seems to happen at night.

I can't describe the smell apart from just unclean and a bit sweaty maybe? - not fishy or musty, no smell of urine or no yeasty smell you would associate with BV or thrush.

Does anyone else experience this? It means I'm having to change my pyjama bottoms every night as I couldn't possibly wear them again because they smell. It's almost like I need to wear a panty liner to bed but surely it's better to get some air to the area.

You mean you don't wash up inside your vagina each night? 🤣🤣🤣

darkmodeera · 31/01/2024 22:11

On a serious note, just wash your pj's each day. What's the problem unless you have BV?

tempnameforadvice · 31/01/2024 22:36

Just wear pants to bed!!!! I don't get why it's so difficult 😂

You change your pants every day because they've been too close to your bum. Same with your pj bottoms. They've been rubbing against your bum all night and I assume they aren't cotton or breathable fabric like your pants.

Either try looser ones or wear only pants.

You do not need to let the 'poor thing' breathe. Utter myth.

Nope, not a myth.

So...change your pyjamas daily? It's not a conundrum really. They've been all up in your crotch with no barrier all night so of course they will get a bit funky. Just put them in the wash and have a shower :/

She is doing this!

Yes I know! But she described it as a 'problem' and is asking advice as if there is some issue with just changing your pyjamas and showering. It's what most women do, surely? Clothes worn next to the crotch for 8+ hours become dirty and need washing. Hardly rocket science.

It's really uncomfortable, and the knickers would need washing anyway so why bother? Whether you wear knickers or pyjamas either way they need to be washed. This is such a non problem.

Ah yes, a perfect breeding ground for yeast and bacteria in the <checks notes> famously yeast and bacteria-free vagina.

Sounds legit.

@YesThatsATurdOnTheRug

Right. If you wear unsuitable underwear, and if moisture collects, you may face issues of bacterial growth leading to infections.

Lots of variables.

There's no inherent need to 'let it breathe' if some / all of these situations don't apply to you.
