Embarrassing problem- stinky crotch in the morning

GinFizz3489 · 31/01/2024 20:16

I have quite an embarrassing problem which I don't feel I can speak to any of my friends about.

When I go to bed I just wear pyjama bottoms with no underwear however, every morning when I wake up the crotch of my pyjamas smell a bit funky. It doesn't seem to matter if I shower before bed or not, I still get this smell.

I don't have any infections and no unusual odours during the day it onto seems to happen at night.

I can't describe the smell apart from just unclean and a bit sweaty maybe? - not fishy or musty, no smell of urine or no yeasty smell you would associate with BV or thrush.

Does anyone else experience this? It means I'm having to change my pyjama bottoms every night as I couldn't possibly wear them again because they smell. It's almost like I need to wear a panty liner to bed but surely it's better to get some air to the area.

I do think they need to be changed every night if you aren't wearing underwear though. Without underwear, the pyjamas are your underwear. So it's like putting yesterdays knickers back on.

sumptuous · 31/01/2024 20:35

Let it breathe at night don’t wear bottoms get big long nighties instead.

Sweat smells like pee too btw.

Gobolina · 31/01/2024 20:36

I'm in the it needs to breathe camp. Let it get some air.

Newsenmum · 31/01/2024 20:38

We sweat a lot at night so makes sense!

newnameagain1976 · 31/01/2024 20:44

Why would you change your pants everyday but not your pjs? They are touching bits that sweat and then you are putting them back on again.

apapuchi · 31/01/2024 20:53

If mens PJs are better just get some men's ones for yourself (or keep pinching your husband's). I find the same, women's are often more fitted and get too bunched up.

Talk66talk · 31/01/2024 20:56

You might have thrush because I've had it and didn't realise until the nurse tested me! Your PJS sound too tight too.

Shower before bed and wear a nightie and that's it nothing under.

This. The smell is likely from the PJs.

Shiningout · 31/01/2024 20:59

Sorry but I'm unsure what the confusion is here. You're in bed for 8 hours or so, probably sweating, of course your pj bottoms won't be completely fresh smelling in the crotch area in the morning. What is with all the threads on laundry/intimate smells and fluids recently?? Just change your pj's every night 😵‍💫

@tempnameforadvice

I don't know- I don't think it's normal as to me it smells quite strongly. I know some odour is the norm but surely not to the point you need new pyjamas every night.

You wouldn't be asking if you needed new knickers every day, would you? You automatically change them each day. So what's the difference with pyjamas?

I tend to wear night shirts, nothing underneath. I do have pyjamas but they feel very restrictive to me so only wear them when I'm really really cold. But I wouldn't wear bottoms for more than 2 nights running.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 31/01/2024 21:03

How old are you? I never needed to wash daily before I hit 40, but suddenly smelled of old sweat every day. I don't know if I started sweating more, or if the makeup of my sweat has changed.

Suddha · 31/01/2024 21:05

I had this problem. It smelled like scampi fries! No other symptoms. The pharmacist said try the BV gel that you squirt in your vagina for 7 nights in a row, worst case scenario you waste a tenner but it won’t hurt you, best case it might fix it. After a couple of days the smell had gone! I finished the week’s worth of gel and the problem is totally solved.

Fanny's have a smell that's a fact of life

coxesorangepippin · 31/01/2024 21:09

Let your yoni breathe

Icouldbehappy · 31/01/2024 21:10

Have a shower or at least a wash before bed. How many times have you had a pee during the day? That’s all still on your foof if you don’t wash it off before bed.
And it’ll smell, no doubt about that.

cornflower21 · 31/01/2024 21:10

Can you wear cotton or linen nightie with no underwear?

soupfiend · 31/01/2024 21:11

Are they synthetic OP?

In any case just like others are saying, I dont know what you expect it to smell like, some peoples smell is stronger than others it also changes throughout the month.

MCOut · 31/01/2024 21:15

If it’s not normal go and get it checked. It’s probably just thrush or BV. You could try the Canesflor vaginal probiotic and make sure you’re not washing it with soap or so thoroughly that you’re washing the good bacteria out.

Notthesameasitwas · 31/01/2024 21:16

I think it’s normal although some people are more smelly or sweaty than others.

It’s also why the trend for wearing pyjamas to the supermarket or on the school run is so gross.

Mum2jenny · 31/01/2024 21:19

Sleep naked or just wear a short nightie or long t shirt with your nether regions uncovered.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 31/01/2024 21:19

I would smell if I wore pajamas all night, try not wearing any and see if it improves. Also do you use a mild soap? ( outside only!)

Please tell me that you did wash every day....

Mumaway · 31/01/2024 22:05

I agree with other posters, it's just sweatiness which is totally normal. I wear a nightie with no pants (it usually ends up round my waist but keeps my shoulders warm and means I have something on when kids get me up in the night), and still have the same problem. It's just nature.

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 31/01/2024 22:07

Swap to a nighty or nightshirt

Missingmyusername · 31/01/2024 22:10

Could be the fabric if synthetic. But and I’ll get flamed, if you don’t shower at bed time but are peeing and pooping in the day, moving around, sweating, then putting on the same pyjamas I’d be surprised if you didn’t whiff.

I shower, put on clean pants and either pyjama bottoms or a night dress. I can’t sleep without pants.
