Curious....as I'd like to cut out snacking but I know I couldn't last between meals.

Hi @Anon_92
Breakfast
2 × sourdough bread toasts and some fruit
Some nuts (almonds and cashews)

Lunch
2 x chappatis with a vegetarian very healthy mix and plain yoghurt

Dinner
Rice with lentils and plain yoghurt and later i have some porridge

I'm hungry now lol!! 😁

Hazel444 · 21/10/2023 20:45

I eat the exact same things in the day during the week and I never get hungry between meals - if I eat bread it seems to set off my snacking behaviour so I never have it now.

Breakfast: Coffee with cream. Smoked salmon with avocado and roast cauliflower (I cook a big batch of roast cauliflower at the beginning of the week)
Lunch: Carrots dipped in peanut butter, a few squares of dark chocolate.

Then the evening meal varies, something like chicken thighs with rice and green veggies. Instead of a snack before bed I have a herbal tea.

Anon_92 · 21/10/2023 20:52

And do you guys feel hungry between meals? How do you cope with the low mood/hunger between?

I eat lunch (typically scrambled eggs on toast, hummus and raw veg sticks and a pitta bread, tuna mayo sandwich, beans on toast, cheese on toast, veg soup and bread - something like that).

Then a home cooked dinner with protein, veg and carbs in the evening.

That's it! No snacking. No biscuits, cakes, pastries, desserts, sweets or crisps unless a really unusual occasion. I find this quite easy to stick to

Nodashians · 21/10/2023 20:56

Breakfast smoothie made with four types of fruit and high protein yogurt.

Lunch massive salad with about six types of salad and a large portion of protein (today was smoked salmon and boiled eggs).

Dinner Protein and veg, something like roast chicken, carrots, parsnips and gravy or meatballs, peppers, onions, mushrooms in a ragu sauce.

Anon_92 · 21/10/2023 20:56

I think you have a lot more willpower than me!!! I clearly use food far too much as a reward. I'm curious, how do you unwind for example on a weekend evening? I think I've gotten in the habit of treating myself when the kids go to bed and it's got to stop!!!

Evening snacking is hard, I ditched my bad habits by having a low calorie hot chocolate (38 calories) and I gave up all fizzy drinks which really helped with sugary snack cravings.

mondaytosunday · 21/10/2023 21:08

Protein! I eat an egg, 50gr smoked salmon and a handful of tomatoes fur breakfast which keeps me going til lunch. Then I have half a ham and cheese toastie with a good size salad. A tam tam (110 calories) snd half a glass of milk for dessert. Then a normal dinner. If craving munchies (it's habit rather than hunger), I eat a carrot. Of course the bread is calling my name by then , but it's not driven by hunger.

muddyford · 21/10/2023 21:11

7.30 Breakfast of bran flakes, granola, seeds, fruit, yoghurt, full cream milk. Wholemeal toast a couple of days a week.

12.15 Lunch of wholemeal bread sandwiches - fish, meat, cheese or eggs. Or soup or something on toast. Then fruit and a few squares of chocolate.

6.30 Supper of meat or fish and three or four sorts of vegetables plus spuds, or curry, pasta or risotto. Or salad with protein plus jacket potato or boiled tiny ones. Or pizza and salad.

I think a decent breakfast is the key.

grafittiartist · 21/10/2023 21:21

I've started to have a yogurt at lunch time, and this has helped lots with afternoon energy dip. Feel fuller longer.

INeedAnotherName · 21/10/2023 21:30

I'm still working out what's best for me but I have noticed a couple of things that I've been surprised by so maybe it will help you.

Starting eating as late as possible. If I have breakfast I end up eating all day and can't stop.

No bread. If I eat bread (except in evening as cheese on toast with beans) I turn feral.
Cutting right back on sugar/sweeteners - no fizzy drinks, chocolate, sweets. In doing this, with the no bread, i'm finding I don't really want cake or biscuits as much, ie I will have a couple instead of half the packet!
Drinking water first/instead of food. I'm less hungry.

HeyMicky · 21/10/2023 21:34

Greek yoghurt and berries & boiled egg; or a protein shake; coffee

Salad and protein (feta, cheddar, chicken or tuna)

Veg and protein (chicken, tofu, salmon, white fish, prawns, steak)

I often have something sweet after dinner - yogurt, jelly, small amount of chocolate, ice lolly

LeonBlack · 21/10/2023 21:36

I find the more I eat, the more I want to eat. I very rarely snack.

I skip breakfast and eat lunch as late as poss. Today I had 2 little goat's cheese tarts for lunch at 2.30 and for dinner a fish finger wrap with coleslaw.

MintJulia · 21/10/2023 21:41

Have a larger main course. I've just had a good sized pork steak with home made ratatouille and four boiled potatoes, mashed with butter.

If I have less I find myself snacking before bed. This way I stay a steady weight, with no snacking and much less sugar.

user1968254 · 21/10/2023 21:45

7.30 Breakfast - bowl of cereal +1 thick slice of toast or a yoghurt. Tea with milk. If I have a small breakfast I'm hungry the rest of the day.

12.15 Lunch - sandwiches with 3 slices of bread + piece of fruit

615-7 or so dinner - eg medium sized baked spud with chilli and a bit of cheese + pudding (fruit, yoghurt, couple of spoons of ice cream, crumble etc)

If I'm going to eat a late lunch or dinner I might have some grapes or a couple of crackers about 2 hours beforehand to keep me going.

What stops me snacking - big meals, lots of drinks (tea, ribena, water), distractions, and not buying snacks!

Nodashians · 21/10/2023 22:05

So pretty much no fruit or veg.

RampantIvy · 21/10/2023 22:18

Breakfast is usually a slice of toast
Lunch is a sandwich/toasted sandwich with some salad or a lage salad or soup with some bread
Evening meal stir fry, moussaka, fajitas, curry, pasta with pesto and salad, spanish omelette with salad or just about anything else. We always eat lots of vegetables or salad with our meals

@Anon_92 maybe you don't eat enough at mealtimes? I don't get hungry between meals. I also drink quite a lot of tea.

And do you guys feel hungry between meals? How do you cope with the low mood/hunger between?

If you keep your blood sugar steady there is no low mood or hunger in between meals. Low carb (not no carb) works well for me, also I follow the 16:8 eating pattern.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 22/10/2023 00:21

I have porridge for breakfast.

Lunch is usually something like baked beans and scrambled eggs or a salad with chicken, cous cous, beetroot, onion, egg and new potatoes or jacket potato with tuna. Fruit for dessert.

Dinner is something like curry and rice, sausage and mash, steak and chips or meatballs and pasta with cheese.

I drink plenty of water throughout the day and don't snack.

FrancesOfFrance · 22/10/2023 00:29

Why is snacking so bad though? it surely depends on what you eat for a snack.
I don't snack if I have a big bowl of porridge for breakfast (1 cup dry oats)

StoatofDisarray · 22/10/2023 00:30

Lots of protein at each meal!
