Accidentally put pessary applicator in urethra

Pessaryproblem · 07/09/2023 14:50

I was trying to insert a Vagifem into my vagina but I inserted it into my urethra. I registered it being painful and feeling wrong and at the same time a gush of urine came down.

There was a tiny bit of blood when I wiped.

The pessary ( small tablet) didn't go into the urethra, I think the urine flushed it down.

I'm not sure how I managed to do this, only I was in a hurry.

I'm worried I'll get a bladder infection?

Can anyone advise please.

Is that even possible?

Certainlyreally · 07/09/2023 14:52

so, how did you manage that then?

Alwaysdecorating · 07/09/2023 14:53

How would that even happen?

I doubt very much it went into your urethra. Even if it did just drink lots and go to the GP if you get a UTI.

WellThisIsFun1 · 07/09/2023 15:02

Biologically impossible

It's not impossible to do. Some women have urethras that open just inside the vagina. The vagifem applicator is pretty small.

Don't worry, you won't have done any damage or given yourself an infection, and I'm sure you won't make the same mistake twice!

AndrewGarfieldsLaptop · 07/09/2023 15:05

How big is your uretha?

I did this before with my HRT the doctor asked me if I wanted a job as I had cathertered myself nicely. I didn't get an infection but it was a fresh applicator.

efwx · 07/09/2023 15:18

How is that even possible?!

Pessaryproblem · 07/09/2023 15:21

I'm not a troll, Vagifem pessary is only maybe 6/7 MM wide.

It would be similar to a catheter.

Anyway, maybe mumsnet can vouch for me. I'm here years, I name changed.

Sigh

It’s entirely possible. As someone who regularly inserts catheters you don’t always find the urethra where you expect to.

i shouldn’t think it would give you a UTI unless you are very prone to them.
