Postmenopausal vaginal bleeding again!

FelineUK · 30/05/2023 20:13

Almost two years ago had a uterine polypectomy following investigation of pmvb, I've now got pmvb again! Also a pinching sensation in my left-hand lower groin now and again. When it started last Thursday I also had diarrhoea for a few days but that's now cleared up. Very occasional bleeding, light-brown. Of course I'm panicking about it being cancer so have got a call with the GP tomorrow. Grandmother - cervical cancer, mother - bowel cancer. Just wanting a hand-hold.. 😞

I’ll hold your hand while you wait for the doctors appointment. It is awful having to wait but of course it could be nothing. If it turned out to be cancer, treatment is improving all the time.
Have you a sibling, partner or adult child to help provide some in-person support?

So sorry you’re facing this. I have a hysterectomy and a biopsy and it’s not easy as you know.
Hope the dr can help tomorrow.

At least I hope he can get me on a 2 week pathway as my previous GP did.. I might request a CA125 blood test this time as well.

Sympathies - I'm a repeat offender for PMB too.

The encouraging news is that repeaters aren't at increased risk of it being cancer - it has to be checked out but the probability factor is the same as the first time it happened.

JudyBlumesBlubber · 31/05/2023 08:02

Good luck for your appt today @FelineUK
Some words of encouragement from @HPFA there too.

@HPFA sorry to hear that you suffer this too... it's a pain isn't it! Fingers crossed this will just be another polyp and if so, I'll ask my GP see whether HRT (which I've never used), and progesterone , which I've read, might help reduce possibility of polyps recurring. Can't wait to get all the various investigative appointments lined up again 🙄... and with hysteroscopies, they are so painful for me I need to have it done under GA so that's another anxiety.. it's a bit like flying.. I don't like flying but one has to go through it to get somewhere!

So GP has just asked me to pick up letter and refer me back to the hospital where i was treated last year so that they can deal with my new case of pmvb. It turns out it was as just a year ago I had the polypectomy.. ugh.. makes me more anxious having to go to hospitals and see consultants rather than a local GP but of course it makes sense as they are the specialists..

I’m a repeat offender too. I’m on the 2 week pathway for the third time - it’s less than a year since my previous hysteroscopy. I’m having my scan and consultant appointment next week. It’s a bore isn’t it, especially when you’re almost certain it’s nothing sinister. In my case it’s fibroids, adenomyosis, endometriosis etc and usually starts up after I’ve had some sort of intervention- vaccine, steroid injection or an infection eg Covid. Nevertheless, the investigations are reassuring. Fingers crossed for you OP.

I am just experiencing my first PMB and was searching for threads. Waiting for an ultrasound scan, although my two week referal is turning out to be more like six weeks. Started with light spotting for a couple of days. That went away for a week or so but now have light period type bleeding. Am focusing on all the info about cancer being unlikely.

PutThatDownNow · 31/05/2023 18:00

Sorry, posted too soon. Fingers crossed for OP and @kissedbyfire1

ddisaster · 31/05/2023 18:03

Just been through this, so a virtual hh from me! No hysteroscopy because of previous ablation but fibroids seen on MRI. Huge relief, so I know exactly how you feel and hope all goes well. So glad you're on the fast track and very unmumsnetty hugs to you x

FelineUK · 31/05/2023 19:14

@Kissedbyfire1 ... for me, I try not to think about cancer but with it on the maternal side of course it preys on my mind.. I haven't had any infections recently.. and am quite p*ed off it's come back.. arrghh! If there's not already enough to worry about! Good luck with your investigations xx

@PutThatDownNow .. aww, sorry to hear.. there's a few of us on Mumsnet who have gone through this so don't hesitate to ask for advice or our experience of the various steps. If you're not long into menopause, could it be an actual light period again? You're in the system so hopefully you'll find out what's going on soon.. usually straightforward causes and surprisingly PMB doesn't appear to be that uncommon! xx

@ddisaster thank you xx Hope all is well with you?

I'm a big wuss - low pain threshold, and also hate having things poked up there these days.. even the DH doesn't get a look in, haha. Anyways, I'll get the letter tomorrow and try to arrange an appointment with the gynae clinic asap.. gawd, what a real pain.. time off work, again.. trying to schedule appointments with my husband so I can use the car.. utter bumboils!! If I have to have another hysteroscopy that'll be a GA and what a palava that is! But, sigh.. I know it's got to be done.

Thank you @FelineUK. It's been six years since my last period so I don't think it is. But let's see what turns up once I have been poked and prodded a bit. The positive and matter if fact approach here has given me a boost.

fuckmyuteruslining · 31/05/2023 21:36

I've got pre-menopausal abnormal bleeding and a thickened endometrium (joy) I'll put a link to my thread as lots of ladies have shared helpful stuff. The most reassuring thing I've found was on the Eve gynaecology cancer website. They report that 9 in 10 women referred for PMB do not have cancer but 44 in 100 will have an abnormal scan.

Fecking womb lining is too bloody thick! Help! www.mumsnet.com/Talk/general_health/4813116-fecking-womb-lining-is-too-bloody-thick-help

FelineUK · 05/06/2023 22:02

Been away for a few days.. before I left I tried to get an appointment at the gynae clinic of local hospital. None available, nor at another hospital. Called GP who advised to keep trying. GP wouldn't put on me a 2ww because he said it's a recurrent issue and the letter from the last hysteroscopy was if the problem comes back after 6 months to see them.. so as it's just over a year.. he doesn't think it's cancer and just to get an appointment from his referral. Bleeding has stopped but I am still getting the pinching pains in my groin area. Wonder what's going on.. polyps, fibroids, something else???? So will try again tomorrow for an appointment.

JudyBlumesBlubber · 05/06/2023 22:10

That’s terrible that you’re phoning and getting nowhere. It sounds like your GP has stepped back basically and left you to do the phone around.
I hope you get your appointment soon.

Kissedbyfire1 · 07/06/2023 19:15

I’ve had my scan and consultant review today. All normal, he couldn’t have been less interested and said it’s just one of those things. Likely a bit too much oestrogen in my HRT potion and suggested getting my menopausal specialist to tweak the dose. That’s it.

Kissedbyfire1 · 07/06/2023 19:16

Endometrial thickness is 3mm for anyone who’s interested. 4mm is the limit he said.

fuckmyuteruslining · 07/06/2023 20:42

Your GP needs to step up. He hasn't examined you or done any investigations. If you're not booked in go back to uni m and ask he explains why he's sure this is not a suspected cancer situation. Given that pmb is a red flag situation.

PutThatDownNow · 09/06/2023 20:11

Any luck with an app @FelineUK ? I managed to get mine brought forward. Had scan on Weds. Consultant tomorrow. Not sure what to expect.

Good news that the doc says nothing to worry about @Kissedbyfire1

FelineUK · 12/06/2023 10:23

Morning all.. hospital called this morning and scan/consultation is booked in for 21st June.

@PutThatDownNow - any news for you from the consultation?
